wwe vs tnt anyone watching?

okay extreme rules :

1) christian vs alberto del rio tlc
2) apple vs the corre in a cage match

I still want to see sin vs rey that would be good.

I must be the only cynical guy here then lol. While the speech was extremely emotional and well said it still had elements of Shawn Michael's "I lost my smile" speech and we all know that was a work. Edge is retiring but one has to question these things from time to time. After all, everyone remembers Ric Flair's big, huge retirement night celebration where the ENTIRE roster came out to pay their respects right? ;)

Adam Copeland is not Ric Flair by any means but just something to think about.

I think its worth noting that not only is Edge not Flair, but (accepting him at his word) Edge is retiring for serious medical reasons. Flair retired from WWE because Vince felt it was time.

When Flair retired from WWE, he did just that. He was never seen in a WWE ring for the purposes of a match after that point.

That said, the WWE is not all of wrestling. His retirement from WWE does not impact his career in the indies. (Yes, I just called TNA "the indies".) Yes, I'd respect him more if he honored his retirement... but apparently Ric likes the regular paycheck.

I don't believe Edge's retirement is a work. His speech seemed way too sincere and he broke kayfabe (not that it means as much as it used to) several times on the way out the door that night.

maybe he'll join tough enough as a trainer or on smackdown as anoucer josh , booker t and edge aka (adam copeland) . that would be cool and more torwards staying in the wwe . either way he'll still be in also , look at stone cold he never came out said I am retiring but he is no longer wrestling . also on the raw issue I am glad jr is getting more air time

Flair didn't say that he was simply leaving WWE though. He said he was retiring from the business. He waited like two or three months after his contract ended before signing with TNA. My point was that Edge isn't Flair. I remember Edge's surgery. It was speculated that he might have had to retire eight years ago. He was gone for a long time. I guess this was so sudden and out of the blue for once without any prior knowledge or rumors that it's taken people by surprise lol.

As much as I'd like to see Edge on "Tough Enough" his reason was his back and medical problems so he wouldn't join the show as a trainer. I could see him as a future commentator after getting his bearings and enjoying his time off.

About the speech, I did get a kick out of him mentioning Lita lol. That was funny.

I am inspired to make an MMA thread. Anybody wanna chat about all things MMA (mixed martial arts) I'll see you guys there. As Big John McCarthy would say: Let's get it on!

EDIT* It will be in the sports & fitness section.

that cool . or is there a way to change the titile of this one to :

wwe , ufc and tna and ring of honor offical disscussions and comments

any thing dealing with the squard circle or octogon is cool .

Yeah, I've been wondering why there wasn't an MMA thread here. I think other forums have all inclusive threads for MMA and wrestling, but I would prefer a strictly MMA thread here.

It would be good timing with the huge Toronto show coming up. I'm a big fan of GSP as a Canadian as well. He's like the Bret Hart of MMA, but less whiny. :p

Actually it was a year and some change before Flair wrestled again, and that was Hogan's tour of Australia. It was even longer before we saw wrestle in an American ring. I also don't recall him ever saying he was retiring from the business so much as he was going to retire as an in-ring performer. I could certainly be wrong.

Seeing Edge retire still really hasn't sunk in for me. I guess that's because it came out of nowhere, and because after nearly thirteen years of being entertained by the guy I just came to take him for granted. He was one of the most consistently talented guys in the business, and it was a lot of fun watching him develop over the years into someone I know will be a Hall of Fame candidate before long. I couldn't even begin to list his best matches/promos. That's a thread unto itself.

I'm glad he's getting out with some degree of health intact. I'd love to see him come back someday (anything is possible), but I respect completely his decision.

I remember reading something like this when the story broke. If Flair's heart isn't in TNA I have a difficult time seeing it. The guy goes out there and gives everything he has to a match, promo or angle. It doesn't seem to matter how he might feel personally about it. I've always admired that in him.

I also stand by his desire to wrestle occasionally. I don't really care if he's not the wrestler he was twenty or even ten years ago. He's earned the right a thousand times over to do what he wants with his career. He's gotten plenty from this business, but he's also never stopped giving back. That's more than I can say for Hogan, and some of the snide, pitying remarks people like to make about Flair these days kind of bugs me (not saying you were doing that).

Edge gets to retire under some pretty favorable conditions. It may have been sudden, but not a lot of guys get to retire as World Champion in the aftermath of a Wrestlemania victory.

Adam did it on his own terms and while he still was able to have some resemblance of a normal life. I'm happy for him and thank him for all the years of entertainment. If only others were so graceful with their retirement...although Adam retired due to medical concerns. I can relate to how he must feel to a degree. I've chronic back pain due to my club foot and my pelvis continues to twist. I've an almost two centimeter gait now.

We can also squash any idea about Kurt Angle returning to the WWE, he just resigned with TNA.

Hulk Hogan's tweets about Edge's retirement:

@jays712 if any of the guys like me,Flair,Hardy,Andre,AA,Blanchard, orndoff,Henning would have listened to doctors we would have quit15yrsago

@jays712 but I don't know Edges working environment because they are a media company not a wrestling company. HH wrestlers work hurt!

Douche move considering you had the workrate of a constipated snail, orange goblin. Just because you can't let go doesn't mean Edge or anyone else should maim/kill themselves to entertain others.

A few facts make that extra sad and shameful. Edge idolized Hogan as a kid and was inspired to become a wrestler watching one of his matches. Also, Hogan got a tag team title run in his last WWF stretch teaming with Edge. He ought to have more respect and sensitivity towards someone who not only revered him, but positively affected his career.

I think that's a good reason why Hogan is in TNA right now. He refuses to let go, and TNA is where all the old wrestlers to go "die" (figuratively speaking of course). It's amazing how much sensitivity is among wrestlers and these entertainers lately (Just saw an interview with Billy Graham against Jericho and was stunned) and the massive egos some of these people have.

Linky?

EDIT: This was all I could find...

Graham on Chris Jericho: “Jericho, that shows your complete lack of respect. You have the face of a choirboy, but you’ve got the heart of a devil. One day, someone will walk across your skull on the floor of hell. That’s exactly where you belong. I’m a music fan, a fan of Bob Dylan. The lyrics to one of his songs, Idiot Wind, fits you perfectly, Jericho. ‘Idiot wind blowing every time you move your teeth. You’re an idiot (babe). It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe’. I know what I’m talking about when it comes to steroids. Unfortunately, I’m an expert. I started using in 1966. I told NBC News that the Benoit murder-suicide was not as a result of steroids. I responded to a man choking an innocent seven-year-old boy to death, then murdering his wife. It was the slaughter of an innocent child and steroids had nothing to do with it. The press connected it to steroids and I had an obligation to speak out. For speaking out, Jericho called me self-centered and egotistical, only wanting to benefit myself. I received a personal phone call from Linda McMahon thanking me for stepping it up and telling it like it is. Jericho, you have made a huge mistake. You call me an egotistical idiot. If you walked by right now, I would beat the living hell out of you, then spit on your grave for trying to destroy my reputation in your phony little book.”

Yeah, stunned about covers it.

Jericho said in his book that all kinds of wrestlers who were washed up and toiling in obscurity took advantage of the Benoit scandal to try and get their faces out in the public eye. It's true. A lot of them appeared on CNN and seemed more interested in drawing attention to themselves than legitimately providing useful insights into the tragedy based on their experiences in the wrestling business.

Konnan, for example, mostly talked about how TNA screwed him out of money and wouldn't help with his health problems or something. I wish I still had the book (I only borrowed it from the library) so I could confirm whether or not Billy Graham was mentioned by name, but as far as I can recall, he was not.

Jericho made a general comment about washed up wrestlers using the scandal for their own gain, but the only name I can remember him dropping was Marc Mero. I think Graham may have just assumed Jericho was referring to him when he talked about wrestlers in general exploiting the tragedy, and that's a huge assumption. And you know what they say about assumptions. :nyah:
