Plinkett gets REVENGE

Consider an arrow exactly three seconds after it's been shot from a bow. It's moving, and it exists. Because it exists, it occupies a specific place. Because it occupies a specific place, it's stationary.
It is only stationary to an observer who occupies a coordinate system that is moving at the exact same speed and with the exact same trajectory as the arrow itself.
So it is stationary ... from a certain point of view? ;)
Exactly! :bolian:

Some psychologists would probably argue that the real reason Bishop76 is so upset about the prequels is because he actually hates himself for being so stoopid to watch them 6 times in 48 hours. But I'm not a psychologist.

But you are getting an infraction for trolling. Comments to PM

6 times in 48 hours
Jesus Christ :wtf:

I don't think even Jack fucking Bauer could endure THAT kind of torture. :vulcan:

Damn, Episode I may be my guilty pleasure and all, but... I seriously doubt that I wouldn't hate the shit out of it if I'd seen it more than, say, twice in two days.

BTW,

I went to see Phantom Menace 6 times in the first 48 hours because when I pre-bought the tickets I just assumed I'd want to watch it over and over again
Dude, with all due respect, no movie in the world could have met THOSE kind of expectations. Ever.

^ Hey, I'd do it... for $400... or should I ask for 5? :p
You, the prequel rejection society guy, think wasting 12 hours of your life on Phantom Menace is only worth 400-500 bucks?

You disappoint me, Gaith. :(

Hey ... I actually saw TPM over a dozen times in the theaters. AOTC & ROTS over a half-dozen times, each, including midnight premieres in digital theaters in Times Square. And I enjoyed each viewing. So there. :p

If you agree with my premise, isn't it logical then for the audience to expect more than a couple of lines explaining what exactly these MC are and what they do?

Yet some people didn't want to hear about midichlorians at all. Now the problem is there wasn't more information? You didn't have anything specific in mind by any chance, like "midichlorians are the Force" perhaps?

My further opinion is that Obi-Wan and Yoda did a much better job explaining what the Force was in the OT comparatively.

But there could have been three more lines!

It was more than the opera, though that was a visual clue; it was the way he stated that Plagueis could manipulate midi-chlorians to create life and then looked pointedly at Anakin.

While in front of a giant CGI image representing fertilization.

Broccoli said:
How would killing Palpatine automatically make him the chosen one?

Through the destruction of the Sith.

Broccoli said:
He also killed a helluva lot of Jedi. Was that in the prophecy too?

No, it wasn't. Nor was the route he took to the office every day.

The commentary in ROTS explicitly states that Palpatine created Anakin.

There. Settled.
Done.

Not quite. What it specifically says is that the scene involves "the origin of Anakin". It is not said specifically that Palpatine did it. It could have been Plagueis.

The thing is... most people nowadays watch the films in order. Meaning: Episode I first, Episode VI last. And then it's no issue at all.

All problems people have (including myself) are based on "it's not as good as the OT". The "new generation" who watches the PT first and then the OT doesn't see these problems.

Really? You mean people today will watch in sequence and will ignore the distinctive stylistic change and the improved plot and acting of the OT?

I don't know a lot of people who bother with 1-3 any more. They're so off in tone and style that they don't even feel like they're from the same series as the OT.

Set, I agree this is what Lucas intended. I've been playing devil's advocate mainly to explore the issue further.

The problem isn't with the idea of a prophecy. The problem is that the prophecy was never clearly described in any of the films. It was always left very vague and leaves the viewer wondering what it exactly was. As I referenced earlier, even when we start to get some semblance of an idea in Episode III, Yoda comes along and says they might be wrong about the vaguely defined prophecy and throws all that in doubt.

Now, again, Lucas may have intended for the prophecy to be Anakin defeating the Sith, but what was intended never made it on film and came off as more of an afterthought.

Anyway...I'm tried talking about Star Wars. Let's talk about Rocky!!!

Maybe. Maybe they enjoy the PT more. Up to them.

Think about it. Do you bitch about it when a series of movies gets better with each installment? I don't. I bitch when movies get worse. Die Hard 4, Indy 4, Nemesis, nuTrek, etc... But I don't bitch about the flaws in A New Hope just because I like The Empire Strikes Back better.

Rick McCullum said something along the lines of "Palpatine's incredible confession that he created Anakin".

Yeah, well, McCallum was a maddening source of misinformation about the story -- before, during, and after the release of the films. His word has to be taken with a rather large block of salt.

I think Rick is a sap, but obviously he made that comment with confidence. he knew what was what.

Damnit, we can't even agree on whether we should pay attention to what Rick McCallum says now?

This is sad...

I think it is fairly obvious that Anakin was created because the Ori wanted to create the Orici, after Spock went back in time to prevent the first Cylon War, but ended up creating an alternate 1985 in which Superman was able to save Lois from an earthquake.
