SGU CANCELLED!

Pfft the Jackson gone, Jackson back storylines were better than it's ever been done before. Bobby Ewing anyone?

I dunno. I'd say my favorite character departure/return storyline was with Rimmer during the 7th & 8th seasons of Red Dwarf.
The Rimmer of Series VIII was a human version resurrected by Kryten's nanites who didn't remember anything from after he died back in Series I. It was an ingenious way to make Series VIII Rimmer a git again without negating his heartfelt farewell & character growth in "Stoke Me a Clipper." The Series I-VII Rimmer who left to become Ace Rimmer in "Stoke Me a Clipper" is still out there somewhere. (In fact, his Ace Rimmer nearly met Series VIII Rimmer in "Only the Good" but they changed the ending at the last minute.)

Yes, 3 series and 17 seasons from a mediocre feature film, oh the ineptitude! :rommie:

Mediocre?

Because the first few seasons had another creator who left. After several seasons they should have gave more powers to new writers because they ran out of ideas.

And length is really a great way to figure out quality. More so on a St Trek site.

And yet the show didn't peak in popularity until it's 8th season, or (in my opinion) quality, until it's 7th.

Smallville has lasted longer than any Star Trek series. I don't suppose many here (or anywhere) would suggest that an indicator of superior quality.

So has supernatural which is older than smallville.
But its superman which is a very popular american legend. So it wouldn't surprise me that it has run longer. Plus you also have to look at how many episodes were in each season. Star trek could have 20 to smallvilles 9-10 per season.

Every season of Smallville has over 20 episodes, usually 22.
