So what are you reading, now? Part V

Just finished up Section 31: Shadow and I now remember why I didn't like the book in the first place. This thing was a drag to get through. I found that, for the most part, I just didn't care what happened to the characters, mainly because I knew that everything would be reset at the end, including that Janeway would never follow up on her promise to herself at the end that she would root out Section 31. Meh.

Plus, the idea that the computer was the one trying to off Seven of Nine and was "conflicted" in how it was handling it and protecting itself from Tuvok... I kept rolling my eyes and thinking to myself: "Open the Pod Bay doors HAL..."

Definitely the weakest entry in the series.

Moving on now to re-reading Vanguard: Open Secrets. Figured with two upcoming Vanguard entries, it might be worthwhile to go back and re-read the series.

Recently completed "Double or Nothing" and with that have only the Gateways entry of New Frontier and the NF Anthonlogy "No Limits" to be up to date with the New Frontier Universe.

Currently in the middle of "Paths of Disharmony"

Actually David Mack just announced he's doing another Vanguard book, titled To Storm Heaven (I think), so it's three.

In other news, I already gave up on Rogue Planet, it was just too jumpy for me. So instead I started my next Star Wars book, Outbound Flight.

I finished re-reading Slings and Arrows the other day, made me want to read more of the old Ent-E crew. And I wish Daniels stayed for longer, hope he'll show up in the books one day.

I don't think I ever posted this, but I finally finished Mission Gamma: Twilight and moved on to Mission Gamma: This Gray Spirit sometime early last week. I'm enjoying them, but they're kinda slow going, partly because I've been working two jobs the last couple weeks. That's over for now, though, so I'm hoping to make quicker progress going forward. :techman:

I just finished the Miles in Love omnibus (of the Vorkosigan saga). That just leaves Diplomatic Immunity and Cryoburn. [Technically, there's also the short-story Dreamweaver's Dilemma, but I may not get to that one.]

I just picked up the Mere Anarchy omnibus. I've heard many good things about this one.

I am now reading John Sandford's Rules of Prey (my aunt-in-law keeps raving about them so I thought I'd give the first one as try) and at 50 or so pages in, it's kinda meh so far. Will keep reading and see what happens. Also lined up on the crime front are Jonathan Kellerman's first Alex Delaware novel, When the Bough Breaks, and Linda Fairstein's first Alex Cooper novel, Final Jeopardy.

On the Star Trek front, I'm reading Dave Galanter/Greg Brodeur's Foreign Foes. Not sure which one I have next up on my list, possibly MJF/Kevin Ryan's Requiem.

Finished the omnibus of the first three Elvis Cole novels, and now started China Mieville's Kraken (and in graphic novels, the JLA Year One t/p)

Been reading the TOS books in release order. Have burned through The Motion Picture, The Entropy Effect, The Klingon Gambit and The Covenant of the Crown. Currently on The Prometheus Design. All good stuff.

Finished : "A stitch in time"
Next : "Death in Winter."

Review I posted on Shelfari:

A stitch in time ended up being a reasonably entertaining book, especially if you're a fan of the character Garak. The actor who played him wrote this book and as such, his perspective on the character is far more personal than probably any other author would probably attempt. This ends up being it's strength and weakness. While it's a fascinating look into Garak's life before, during and after his time on the station, that's pretty much all you get. Very little interaction with any of the main characters from DS9 and as such, at times the book became a bit tedious. Still, it was very interesting to see the events that made Garak into the character we all loved so much on the show.

The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart by Jesse Bullington

A deranged serial killer road trip in 1364 is about the best anyone can describe it. :shifty:

I have heard The Prometheus Design called many things. "Good stuff" is not one of them. :)

I admire you for going through the TOS books in order... that's a LOT of reading to do...
