If you could have coffee with Kate Mulgrew what would you say?

Agree teacake - and in the context of that movie, how else would you expect an Admiral giving order to a captain to behave?

To Kate, "Fantastic work as Janeway."

To Janeway, "Just screw Chakotay, get it out of your system and decide!

Like this, right?

oh - I see. You're now saying that the part of Admiral should have been acted just like a Thunderbirds character. Well that's what you said Kate did.

And here I was thinking you were canning Kate as an actor and she hadn't acted the part of Admiral at all well. My bad!

Damn. You're just too clever for me.

lol, not really - but you did walk right into that one ;)

I dunno...I agree Bujold seems to be a bit stilted, but consider Patrick Stewart for the first half of TNG's first season...

Patrick Stewart still had a certain cadence in his voice though. i.e. it was pleasing to listen to.

Bujold on the other hand lacks that cadence. And she's far too soft spoken.

This is a different stiltedness. Picard was this tightwad (almost said "tight-ass") career officer with no family and not many friends. His character was stilted, and intended to be that way.

With Bujold, that's who she actually is.

Geneviève Bujold is too sedate, too stilted, and, even if there had been the effects that Kate had (I thought it was interesting that Kate's version had everything, while Bujold's did not, but there's probably an explanation) she wasn't very convincing, especially when that energy wave was about to hit Voyager.

They didn't waste money on putting FX into the scenes with Bujold, since she was already canned.

I thought Bujold's face at the end of the scene with Tuvok (?) told it all. SHE wasn't happy with her read. :borg:

That scene with Tuvok in the ready room... I couldn't tell that Nicole Janeway was tired. Bujold's performance played the same whether just introducing Harry to his bridge station, or being listening to Tuvok report to her in the ready room. :vulcan:

Replay that scene with KATHRYN Janeway... and you not only see Janeway is tired, you feel it in her bones. :bolian:

If I had coffee with Mulgrew, I'd first want to thank her for being Janeway and thus a childhood hero and inspiration of mine. (That's a large step from scaring me years earlier as the lady from Throw Mama From the Train, lol). I'd then ask about her current projects, etc. and just life stuff.

I concur with Bujold. I know many cite not liking Janeway because they don't like Mulgrew's acting, voice, etc. but all I can say to that is we could have had Bujold...anyone who says she's better than Mulgrew must be drunk....or from another planet.

I love Mulgrew, yes she can be an over actor, just like Shatner, but that tends to sometimes translate with those with theater backgrounds. Stuart was able to find that balance, many actors can't. Personally, I think it played to her advantage as Janeway was supposed to be more human than human in a sense. I think her voice is kinda sexy, but hey, to each their own. *shrugs*

Well I had water with Kate Mulgrew who appeared to be drinking a gin rickey at the time. There were about 5 other people at the table. What did I say? I was too busy listening to her wonderful stories.

btw thanks for this thread revival, I hope people will post in it!

Gin turns or the most level minded human beings into scurvy sea dogs.

One more season of Ugly Betty and Daniel would have been hooking up with Betty, I wonder who Janeway would have been hooking up with if she had another year?

But sadly Voyager isn't plotted like that.

What sort of chemistry do you suspect she would have with Clancy Brown?

The 8 foot tall voice actor behind the mania of Eugene Krabs.

I can't believe how they wasted his versatility on Enterprise.
