the series has been in limbo bout a year, after the filming and having the cgi work done we lost our cgi guy an i had some medical issues from my time i spent in the army. im trying to reboot my series after i get parts 2 3 an 4 cgied this is a fan film budget is low its over 4,000 to get a company to finish it lol way out of the budget, how ever i thought it was time to bring what i had to the trek world. if there ever is a reboot first contact uniforms will be used :)

thanks and enjoy

Hmmm... not bad. I appreciate the green screening work. The sound editing is great.

Not to be an ass, but I clicked on the video expecting to see Twilight Imperium board game - Star Trek edition! :D I didn't notice this was in 'fan productions'.

Keep up the good work!

"Written". ;)

First, let me congratulate you on getting the film made. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and criticize, but actually doing is an achievement in of itself. Bravo, sir.

I started a topic here just for that. It's here under "Fan Filmmaker's Primer" (clicky). There are posts about lighting and sound and the care and feeding of actors and basic cinematography.

Here's some basic stuff based on my viewing:

  • Get a good mic. Bad sound makes even the best production seem cheap. Record to a decent sound recording device if you can (but also record camera sound so it's easier to make sure you can sync it in post).

  • In a few places the perspective on the backgrounds does not match FG camera work correctly. For instance, at 3:18 the camera is looking down at the two seated men, so the horizon line should be higher than their heads, but the perspective lines on the background don't match this.

  • The film is mostly shot with "objective" angles (from an omniscient POV, not through a character's eyes), but several times the actors look right at the camera, which means we jump into a "subjective" viewpoint (like through a characters' eyes, or watching someone addressing a camera as on a TV or viewer). It's generally not a good idea to mix subjective and objective POVs.

Hope that helps.

This is really well made on all fronts. The only thing I dislike a lot is that ship. I'm sorry but its an ugly beast!

Congrats! I actually like the ship. I enjoyed some of the dialog and hints of chemistry between the principles and I really like the brig cell background. Keep it up!
