What are you NOT watching? -and why!

Made for TV films! -those are worse than 'direct to video'-films -and most of them are exactly what Holdfast so eloquently describes!

What I'm not watching... soaps, murder mysteries (except Columbo) - mostly too morbid and disturbing, car/gadget shows, current affairs/political, the news, made for TV films, the sci-fi channel - wall to wall trash at the moment (such a disappointment because it used to be brilliant), music channels, dramas, chat shows... I could go on, but I won't bore you. The only thing I am watching regularly at the moment is The Mentalist (quite different from your usual drama/murder mystery).

What are you not watching?

Is this like Newton's third law? "Every thread has an equal and opposite anti-thread."

Shall I make the others?

What are you not eating/drinking right now?

What did you not have for dinner last night?

What are you not listening to right now?

:p

But what I definitely avoid are anything preachy/cause-y: environmentally-themed movies, working-class-with-a-heart-of gold dramas, one-woman's-brave-fight-against-the-disease-of-the-week, my-kids-were-unfairly-taken-away-from-me... that sort of thing.

Right there with you.

This is almost a zen-like question to me, like "what it the sound of one hand clapping".

What am I not watching? How do I know, if I'm not watching it? :vulcan:

If a TV show is being broadcast, and no-one is able to watch it, does it have any content? :vulcan:

I am not watching Star Trek Voyager as Sky removed Virgin Channel 1 (where Voyager is shown in the UK) from the listings the other week to my utter dismay.

Curse you Murdoch!!! **shakes fists at the sky (literally)**

I really should have called it "What are you NOT watching right now?"

^^ Personally, I long for the days when stories had meaning.

The Cape (kinder forgot about & heard bad reviews. not wasting my time)
Oh, yeah, I forgot about that, too. I think I watched the first episode when I had the flu, but I don't remember a thing about it.

Well, right now I'm not watching the 10 o'clock news, seeing as it's now 5 past eleven. :)

I love The Cape! :)

I am not watching Gossip Girl or 90210...cause...they suck.

Glee
Two and a Half men
Friends - saw one episode and it sucked
Everybody loves Raymond.
Ghosthunters because they NEVER find anything good

What little TV I watch consists mostly of documentaries and wildlife or history shows. We have an extensive DVD collection, though, so if ever I'm in the mood for Trek or Poirot or Rumpole I can indulge. The only fluffy trash I indulge in is Eurovision, because it's only once a year and usually so bad that it's good.

OK, at the moment Harry Hill's TV Burp is on, but my son is watching it and I'm just sitting in the room with him. Honest! :rommie:

There is almost nothing on tv that is of interest to me now.

I feel the same way, and it's surprising how often I hear this now from people in real life as well as online.

When I was a child, it was very unusual to hear that someone didn't watch television. One of my relatives, one of my teachers, and one person at my school. I myself would watch it for about two hours per day: an hour of children's television and something before bed, which was the norm.

My television viewing gradually started to reduce about 10 years ago, while I was at college. Now I can go a month without switching the thing on.

I'm not entirely sure if it's my tastes that have changed or that television has changed into something I don't enjoy. Maybe it's a bit of both.

I actually find my television viewing increasing in this last year, and finding more things of note to watch. Mind you, I pretty much restrict my viewing to BBC Four and More4 these days, with some notable exceptions.

I'm also listening to more and more radio recently. I was addicted to radio while at University.
