U.S.S. GEMINI - CGI Model

Nice looking ship! I don't usually care TOS-era thingys, but this cought my attention! Very nice ship!

I don't think it would need a big ol' spoiler on it if the design needs to mount some kind of external module (which it wouldn't, because any modularity required of a TOS design would probably be internal).

When I designed Surya the idea was that it could take any number of modular attachments, internal and external, depending on the mission it was assigned. Sort of like the modern day littoral combat ship.

New update... we finally see the warp nacelles in all their glory!

I can easily imagine seeing this on TOS. :techman:

Thank you... that really is the biggest compliment you can pay me, because that pretty much sums up my whole goal with this project... to make this ship look and feel like she truly belongs in to TOS setting.

Is it me or does your version not have the warp engine hanging down as far as on the original Surya design? I know on my version (which I still have to find) I pulled the engines up just a bit closer to the hull because I thought they hung down too far.

I don't know, really... in terms of the warp pylons, those are one of the few things that never changed from the way aridas drew them... I drew mine the same way. I'm thinking maybe it's the angle of the shot that makes them look closer to the hull? I think from the side, it might look different.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, the phasers for the most part are exactly where they were on the TOS ship... the 11-foot model, that is, since the filming model never had those Franz Joseph "nipple" phasers.

I'm loving this ship I've always find the TOS ships to be beautiful but this one is sexy !!!! Love how u have angled the warp pylons and the location of the shuttle bays. Very nice indeed keep up the good work BA :techman::techman:

It's looking really terrific.

I'll have to finish mine. I know I keep saying that...

Thank you, both.

Nero's Shadow, thanks, but I cannot take credit for the design itself... the Surya as designed by aridas has angled pylons, so I merely copied that from the original. IIRC, the Coventry is the one with the pylons pointing straight down. But I'm glad you like it.

Tallguy, yeah, I would love to see your Surya completed... it'd be interesting to see if it would be unchanged, or if you've learned some new tricks since then that you'd apply to the model to improve it any.

Well, I've been dinking around with the mesh off and on over the last year. Mostly cleanup kind of stuff. aridas and I were both very happy with the shape as it was, so it's just refinement.

Nice... yeah, I'd really love to see you work on it again... I'd follow the WIP thread with interest!

I know that Casimiro has told me that the warp nacelles on the Gemini are actually an improvement over the nacelles on his TOS Enterprise model... he used a few new tricks and textures to make the Gemini's better, so when he revises his Enterprise, it'll actually have the Gemini's nacelles on it.
