U.S.S. GEMINI - CGI Model

^

I see... cool deal. I've always loved both ships, but the Surya is my favorite.

For those 3D modelers here who are curious, here is a wireframe and statistics on the model so far:

The main hull alone is:

14,455 polygons
27,050 edges
12,517 vertices

Thank you. Yes, I plan to do a set of orthos based on this model, once it is complete, so that all my Gemini orthos are in sync.

Looking good :techman:
I'd love to see a front view of those nacelles. The bussard collectors look like they turned out great, but you can't get a clear view of them from this pic.

Thanks... and as you wish, here is a view showing the front of the warp engines and the impellers. The two little white lights under the impulse engines are tractor beam emitters.

Here's a close-up of the tractor beam emitter, designed by Charles Casimiro, and based upon the one above the Enterprise's shuttlebay.

That looks great. I'd be very interested in his technique for doing the nacelle domes.

Thanks. I will ask him the next time I email him, if he has a tutorial or something like that on the nacelle dome technique, since a few people have commented that they like the look, both here and on other forums where this is being posted.

This looks stunning! :techman: And quite authentic, too! Still, I gotta ask: what about the navigational deflector?. I've an idea for that with marring what you have so far. I got the idea from FJ's drawings. The three round windows at the front of the saucer could be enlargened to serve as a three part nav deflector system. Essentially three large concave circles possibly painted white.

Just a thought.

Thanks!

Well, the main sensor dish issue was one that I was struggling with from day one, with the 2D plans for the Gemini... after much deliberation, I decided that the ship looks better without one, at least IMO. Plus, my rationale was that since the Gemini is an older ship than the Constitution, and since no (canon) ships prior to the Constitution-Class has had a "RADAR-dish-style" sensor dish, that it meant that that particular style of sensor dish was the newest and best technology, so Starfleet integrated it on their newest and best ship... the Constitution-Class.

Funny you mention those three forward circles, though... I've always assumed those were the "saucer deflector" or whatever you want to call them. I always thought TNG took the idea for the Galaxy-Class saucer deflector from those three circles on the TOS ship.

A new update... the main hull is totally finished now, including texturing. Just a little more fine-tuning to be done to the pylons and nacelles.

I wouldn't have minded seeing one of these in the TOS-R version of "The Ultimate Computer."

That ship just keeps getting better and better every time I see it. Excellent job!:techman::techman:

Thanks.

No, no rollbar... not on the Gemini, lol. I know a lot of people like the idea, and that's cool, but personally, I think it would just over-complicate the design.

I don't think it would need a big ol' spoiler on it if the design needs to mount some kind of external module (which it wouldn't, because any modularity required of a TOS design would probably be internal).
