GENERATIONS 1994 movie in which Kirk is aboard the newly launched 1701-B and he is lost into the nexus. Forget the whole nexus:barf: idea. Why did Picard bury Kirk on a mountain?; another dumb scene in Generations...why didn't Picard have Kirk's body brought back to earth to be buried with starfleet honors. Afterall, he had been M.I.A. for seventy plus years, future Scotty(trouble past Scotty could encounter post "Relics" Scotty), Spock and McCoy were still alive and would have attended his burial service too. I know in STIIWOK Spock was buried at space(sea) in an empty photon torpedo case, however that was probably planned to give Kirk a reason to return to planet Genesis. Afterall if he had brought Spock's body back to Vulcan to be buried then ST III TSFS would have been a totally different movie.

I wish they had remade the NG "Yesterday's Enterprise" episode and had the 1701-B with Kirk, Scotty and Chekov go through a temporal rift to encounter the 1701-D. I would have loved to see Kirk, Scotty(NG"Relics" reference could be injected telling they will see him again) and Chekov meeting/interacting with the NG cast of characters[in GEN Kirk only met Picard:(]. Then have Kirk sacrifice his life to save both the 1701-B and the 1701-D.

It would of been nice to see the whole entire TOS era crew just for one last movie as guest stars.

They could have had a movie where Kirk is lost in some Nexus, and then in Generations time there's a realization that Kirk may still be alive and Old Spock and Scotty come up with a plan to rescue him with the help of the Enterprise-D.

Throw in random villain for them both to have to fight and perhaps even refit the original Enterprise-A for prosperity and have Kirk go into battle separately in that along with the Ent-D.

Haha, that's how they came up with the Generations script, I guess. "Throw in this, throw in that."

I don't think the idea of fans shelling out money at the theaters to watch a remake of a TV episode is a very good idea.

They already tried that with "The Motion Picture" and I don't think it worked out that well.

I could have sworn I read in Starlog or one of the other Trek magazines that towards then end of the TNG run something ala YESTERDAYS ENTERPRISE being an idea to bring the casts together, I know they talked about bringing Denise Crosby back too.

I'm sure Crosby would have moved so fast, she'd have put footprints on Berman's face to sign for that! She would have moved at Warp 95, LOL! :guffaw:

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that several people on the TNG staff regretted not saving "Yesterday's Enterprise" for the first movie. The ideal jumping off point would have been during the Khitomer battle, when the Klingon torpedo blasts through the saucer. Instead of blowing through the ship, it explodes, triggering the energy vortex that brings the Ent-A to the future.

One good thing about doing YE as a movie would have been having Michael Dorn do something other than be in the teaser and the tag. Commander of the Klingon fleet attacking at the end, perhaps?

But then it wouldn't be a meeting between the TOS crew and the TNG crew that we're familiar with.

But it would have been a passing the torch movie nonetheless. Have Spock acting as the bridge between the alternate TNG and the real TNG (instead of or in addition with Guinan). The alternate Ent-D helps the Ent-A return home, and 80 years later, Spock pays a visit to Picard.

Sounds to me like y'all should really read TNG Crossover by Michael Jan Friedman. In it, Spock is in trouble in Romulan space, McCoy comes aboard the E-D & winds up takin' command to rescue Spock while Scotty commandeers a Constitution class ship from a musuem to launch his own one man mission into Romulan space.

Or maybe the Shatnerverse novels, which have Kirk, Spock, Scotty & McCoy havin' adventures with Picard & Company in the 24th century...

As far as i'm concerned, the only way Kirk should have died was in the Captains Chair of the USS Enterprise. I dont know how it would have happened, but Kirk captaining the 1701-D in its last moments would have made for more a fitting end for both Kirk and the 1701-D.

There's no way Kirk would have ever ended up in the command chair of the D without people complaining how contrived it all was.

A Trek movie with a contrived plot to get Kirk into the captain's chair? It's not unprecedented

For the most part, yes. Crossover is at least mildly entertaining. The Shatner novels are horrid fanwankery.

When Shatner started turning Kirk into Shatner in his novels, I gave up. Kirk was an Irish-American, not a Jew. I say this as a person with both Irish and Semitic blood.

This thread sounds the same way, which is why I suggested the novel.

weren't there rumors that those novels were ghost-written by the reeves-stevenses? Or at least that they had a heavy contribution?

At any rate, I've only read them as far as "Ashes of Eden" and "the return" if we're talking about the same series of books.

Yes, those are the same books. He even has "Kirk" marry someone MUCH younger than himself, not unlike The Shat. What Shatner has admitted is that he has some ideas for the books, an outline or certain story points and throws those at the Reeves-Stevenses and they write the stories. He has final approval. He was very upfront about that in one of his interviews or non-fiction books, I forget which.
