I personally like the flag of Estonia...and what a cool name for a country...ESTONIA!

I actually knew a girl from Estonia...she was really sweet...sad we lost touch over the years.

Well, I'm glad you were the one to say it. Because at least in the US, I don't think there is any ethnic cuisine that is more associated with a country's flag than is Italian cuisine.

I mean, you don't seen Chinese flags in Chinese restaurants...you only occasionally see Mexican flags in Mexican restaurants. But you almost ALWAYS see Italian flags in multiple locations in Italian restaurants. There's usually an actual flag (if not little tiny flags on each table ), streamers of flags hung around the kitchen area, and sometimes even the menu has the Italian flag printed all over it...or is done in those 3 colors. And take-out pizza boxes? Unless you are at Dominos or Pizza Hut or some crap place like that, they almost always have the Italian flag or colors on the box.

And just TRY to buy a package of Italian sausage in an American supermarket without walking out with a little Italian flag or two printed on packaging somewhere in your shopping bags.

It's to the point where, just seeing the Italian flag makes my mouth water. In fact, it did just now, when it was posted. And I'm not even hungry. I see the flag of Italy, and somewhere back in my subconscious, my brain goes "Oh boy! Italian sausage!" Well, either that or "Oh boy! Italian men!"....which are equally delicious.

But truly...it really is incredible how associated your flag is with your cuisine.

My favourite flag is the UK flag bu there are lots of neat ones. If Australia changes their flag, they're super lame!

Flags have historical significance and should not be changed on the whims of a particular political party, or even a particular generation.

Like Nazis would win any uniform contest. Reminds me of something I read about the Lotr movies - They did a much better job designing "evil". Me, I'm a huge fan of commie propaganda art.

My favorite flags belong to the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and New Zealand (though I really like this alternate idea, too).

I'm a fan of that one as well. It's cool looking, while still fairly subtle. It cuts ties to the Union flag without abandoning the colors. And it looks distinct enough to never be confused for the Australian flag

But truly...it really is incredible how associated your flag is with your cuisine.

I took a look at my pile of takeout menus. One of them was a pizza place and, sure enough, it had an Italian flag printed on it. Directly underneath, it said "Se Habla Espanol", though

I don't even know what the flag of my own state looks like let alone the flags of other Australian states.

I think most are similar to the Australian flag, with having the union jack and blue background, except Northern Territory and ACT. I like ACT's design best of the state and territories the best. Think NSW should have the waratah and more sky blue in it, such as this one.

If the Australian flag does change, I think it should change if we ever become a republic (it will happen). But some of the proposed designs, I don't like. This is the best I've found. I think the flag must feature red, white and blue.

New Zealand (though I really like this alternate idea, too).

I like that alternative design. Saw a similar design for the Australian flag. But it's missing the Southern Cross.

Common mistake.

The "Star and Bars", the flag I linked to, was the "first" national flag of the Confederacy. The one on the girl's bikini, that started off as one of the Confederate Battle Flags, meant for use on the battlefield, carried by soldiers, but it wound up being more or less the same thing as the second national flag of the Confederacy. A lot of people mistakenly refer to that battle flag as the "Stars and Bars".

My favorite flag is the Betsy Ross flag... IMO, it has all the things that make the American flag great, but I like having only 13 stars arranged in a circle much better than the fifty all lined up in rows.

The U.S. flag is an elegantly simple piece of graphic design, but I think it was a mistake to add a star for each new state. On a small flag or at a distance, the 50 stars of the current flag are little more than white blobs.

See, it would be a good flag if it didn't have the writing. Flags are all about symbolism, and writing the name of the place they're supposed to represent is like saying they don't expect people to get it.

So it's sort of a historical reminder and similar to the "Don't Tread on Me" on the Gadsden Flag and thus symbolic in that respect.

I'm starting to dislike Manitoba's flag though. It's nice and all, but it's nearly identical to Ontario and I just think that we should go for something more unique.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The Red Ensign isn't a terrible flag, IMO, but it's pretty tired, and doesn't really say anything about Ontario. The connection to the monarchy is kinda important, I guess, given our Loyalist history, but we're much more than that, now.

The best alternative design for an Ontario flag would involve the classic trillium logo, I think. I found this idea online, and adapted it for this mockup (as the one I found was very tiny):
