Flags of the World

This is the city flag of Tampa, Florida. Man, that is one butt fucking ugly flag. WTF were they thinking?

The city flag of Roswell, New Mexico:

Considering the town’s notoriety, I think something like this would be more appropriate.

Not gonna happen, I'll wager. Canada, while looking similar to the US has a much different culture, and it's the little things that make up Canada. For one thing, Canada values its cultures and doesn't seek to be a melting pot unlike the US. Canada actually likes its French connection, something which seems to be at odds in the U.S. These are just some of the things that are too different to make a "unification" viable.
Actually the United States has not embraced the "melting pot" philosophy for a long time. When I was in school it was the "tossed salad " metaphor that was used, but I'm not sure what they use currently. Maybe they stopped trying to come up with lame metaphors. I do agree that Canada does have a unique culture, but many Americans might not be aware of it.

The European Union acts more and more like a single nation all the time.

Where did you get that from? That's pretty much not the case at all.

Over here we call it "the news". Unless the reporting is so horribly skewed that the sky may as well be green outside of North America for all we're told, it would take a truly blind person to see that the EU is more and more like a nation-state as we move towards the future. For fuck's sake you have a court system that actually has the power to strike down member states' laws!

On topic: That flag of Roswell, NM looks like it might as well be graphics from an ATARI 2600 game!

Not really, no. Decisions of the European Supreme Court only bind the lower court in question.
The European Supreme Court for Human Rights isn't even an EU institution, but one of the European Council. Theoretically, its decisions are binding, though the countries which have ratified the European Human Rights Convention have chosen different ways of how a court decision has to be implemented. Sometimes, they're just being ignored.
