The script hasn't been announced doesn't mean it's not done. They probably don't want to announce it until it's the (mostly) final draft.
Why would they not be involved in as many projects as they can handle?
Actually what was said was that they'd not even worked on it yet. My guess is that the film is gonna be pushed back to second half of 2012. Maybe even Christmas.
First of all because they already signed a contract to write the sequel and Paramount announced a release date (maybe we should blame Paramount). I look at it as making a commitment and not overestimating the amount of time one has.
The thing is there are way too many people working on the script in the first place, I think all four of them are working on it or supposed to be.

It could be just a case of not wanting to say anything until it's greenlit...but it is a slight cause for concern.
JJ is overseeing the script since he's the executive producer and probably will direct again even though he's not announced that ; Kurtzsman, Orci, and Lindelof are writing it but he's overseeing it and has final word on drafts so technically there are four people writing it.
We're still 18 months away and the script is probably close to being wrapped up.I never said I was in panic mode. I'm saying that there is justification to be at least a little concerned.

There are technically 3 people writing it (present tense.) J.J. is not receiving a writing credit at this point. He hasn't even seen the script yet.
