It's already happened via the PT, though Canon Completists tend to insist that various retcons and fudging mean that the PT didn't actually boot anything out of canon. For example, Boba Fett's backstory as described in Tales of the Bounty Hunters is essentially gone. On an item-specific basis, Zahn's Clone Wars timeline references are no longer valid ( while the one in Dark Force Rising was problematic in the first place even before the PT ). The same goes for hyperspace travel times: many EU authors went the Star Trek route, which doesn't actually agree with the OT, and now it doesn't agree with the PT either.
