    I really don't understand why anyone would want a reboot. They won't be the characters you loved and it won't follow the lore you're so invested in, so what's the point? I'm a fan of the storyline, not the brand name.

    I'm a fan of the concept. The original take on the concept has been played out.

    Let's see:

    SG1 = TOS / TNG
    Atlantis = Voyager
    Direct-to-DVD movies = earlier good seasons of DS9
    SGU = Enterprise

    All that's left now, if they keep following the same path, is Nemesis, then a blasphemous reboot with lens flares.

    The DVD movies were nowhere near that good. They were Insurrection level at best.

    If they killed off Jack in one of the movies it would have been Star Trek 7.

    It's more likely that until MGM stabilizes and puts new shows/movies into production there is no reason to take down sets to keep a studio empty.

    They don't own those studios though, they rent them. The cost of renting unused studios is the reason the Atlantis sets were torn down and put into storage.

    The studio would want a reboot on the premise that the original movie has name recognition with which to market a remake but that the TV shows are played out commercially.

    Stargate is really a prime candidate for a reboot given that the current franchise has never held a wide audience. Few enough people are invested in the current incarnation that there's very little to be lost in rebooting.

    I'd like them to at least finish up the Lucian Alliance Attack on Earth plot before they reboot it though.

    Why? Because I want to see a giant fricking space battle happen over Earth.

    I have a feeling this will only play out in fanfic, if ever. MGM/SyFy aren't going to spend money having a big blowout finale for a failed show.

    Agree that if the franchise comes back, it'll be a reboot. However, I'm not sure if there's enough demand even for a reboot. The audience was just never that large. It could happen, just look at BSG. But, I don't think it's the most likely outcome. The story is done and played out. I enjoyed lots of it along the way but it has run its course.

    Due to the clause Dean Devlin has in the rights agreement, any reboot would likely have to be a series, so there's very little to be gained either. It was the Bridge studios mythology that made the franchise a cash cow for MGM, not the movie, I don't see them wanting to reboot any time soon.

    The Lucian Alliance attack on Earth plays out in one of two scenarios:

    -They send a cloaked cargo ship loaded with naquadah and explosives to Earth. Watch the episode Family Ties to see how this gets resolved.

    -Three or four Ha'taks arrive in the solar system and are obliterated by the combined fleet of Asgard upgraded BC-304s, or perhaps by ZPM enhanced Odyssey alone. This takes three minutes. Or perhaps the motherships arrive in Earth orbit before being taken out by drones launched from Antarctica. Just watch Lost City if you want to see that happen.

    The Lucian Alliance planning an attack on Earth is the most tiresome thing SGU has done this season. There's no possible way it can succeed. We've more threatening attacks launched by more powerful enemies thwarted. They might as well just have a line in a 2.5 episode saying the attack on Earth has been prevented and never mention it again. I would make that suggestion even if the show weren't cancelled.

    No it wouldn't. It simply means that Devlin and Emmerlich would have to be involved in the movie - and a movie would be the way to go. They did, after all, produce the first movie which was a hit and on which a remake would almost certainly be based.
