woke up not knowing what day it was.

So this week I'm working 6-2, unfortunately last night I got less than a hour sleep.
So of course when I got in I ended up nodding off, When I woke up instead of thinking its was 4pm Thursday. I thought it was 4am Friday, so I was about to run around the house getting ready for work, when I realised it was the afternoon and for some reason I had a OMG moment thinking that I had some how sleep't straight though my shift  .
I stood their in a panic wondering why my phone kept telling me it was a Thursday afternoon .
In the end my dad had to point out what day it was and now my whole family think I'm nuts.
Anyone else done this?

Well, I did nearly miss a whole class waiting for a different class that was on a different day that morning...

Otherwise, when I am on break and just not having school, it is typical for me to ask at least four times a day, asking which day of the week it is.

Yeah, whenever I have several days off work in a row, I usually end up getting confused. I'm so used to working a specific schedule that when it gets interrupted I have to think really hard about what day it is.

My wife is a (mostly) stay at home mom. She works two days a week. So, most days, she's not sure what day it is!

And it's not her, either. We are friends with two other couples that have kids the same age as Little Miss Alpinemaps - about 2-3 years old. And both of those women never know what day of the week it is either.

I'm on the wonderful unemployment line, and this happens to me all the time. Time has no meaning to me anymore; it could be Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday and I wouldn't know. I'm still doing the same thing, resumes and cover letters. At least I still have night and day to keep me straight. :)

I've had it quite a few times. It takes about 15 or 20 seconds to figure out. That's actually a long time to not now what day it is I think!

Akin to this is what happened to me this summer. I went to Scotland to visit family and was there for 3 weeks. Funny thing is every day when I woke up I knew where I was...so that wasn't it...it was the first morning after I returned home that I woke up and not only did I not know the day, but i literally said out loud "Where the Hell am I?!" It was very disconcerting and the weird thing is I can still remember that feeling, like relive it...even though it was so counter-intuitive.

Welcome to my life!

There are no Mondays, or Fridays, Sundays or Wednesdays.

Just Work Days and Rest Days.

With the consistently variable hours that I do it's the only way to keep sane.

When I woke up instead of thinking its was 4pm Thursday. I thought it was 4am Friday

If I ever nap in the afternoon, it throws off my internal clock, and I'll feel disoriented. Time feels back to front. Sunset becomes sunrise. I also remember it giving me a headache + internal organs feeling funny that lasts until bedtime.

It's an unpleasant feeling, so for many years now, I've never slept outside of my bedtime hours.

I was the same when I was unemployed, Hope you get something soon.

Yep. I have chronic migraines that destroy my short term memory. I lose days (sometimes two or three) all the time. I used to think it was strange when it happened to my mom, but now I completely understand the frustration she lived with.

Hell yeah. Happens to me all the time. I wake up often in an immediate state of anxiety thinking i missed something important, or totally not knowing what day it is and if i'm supposed to be somewhere. Im glad to hear other people do it too. I was beginning to think alzheimers was creeping up on me.

It's time to cuff me.

I remember years ago, when I was an undergrad, I took an afternoon nap. I woke up around 7ish. I didn't realize it was 7pm instead of 7am. I was pretty disorientated so I took a shower, got ready for school and started to walking to breakfast when I noticed that the sunlight was off, and the cafeteria were serving dinner....

Oh god ya, this is why i never nap.

One of the things I looked forward to the most about being self-employed was not needing to remember what day it was. It's really, really refreshing not to care about this sort of thing. Reminds me of how I was back in college or on long holidays. It makes every day like a holiday of sorts.

The closest I had been to this phenomenon was similar to Hugo Rune's situation of working strange shifts, going to bed and waking up at odd times - in my case I was working 10-hour shifts in A&E. At one point I had completely forgotten that it was Christmas Day. :rommie:

But apart from that, I'm pretty clued up as to the day of the week, although I do have a calendar nearby to remind me every now and then.

I have a habit of dozing off in the afternoon then getting AM/PM mixed up when I wake. I check the clock and assume I've been asleep for a long time and that it must be the early hours of the morning, until my brain wakes up and I realise it was only an hour or so.

That little crossover point when I realise what the time really is feels very strange.

Hey Zion, good to see you around! :bolian:

Thanks, I'm keeping myself busy so I don't totally lose track of reality. I'm pretty much a fulltime volunteer so I don't go crazy!

I really can't afford to lose track of what day it is, because something's due nearly every day and four of five days it's a life-or-death assignment. So I try not to do it terribly often. Sorry:shrug:

I remember when I was at school I'd sometimes turn up for the wrong lesson in the morning because I was following Friday's timetable when in fact it was Thursday. That happened to me maybe once a month, or once every two months.

At first I'd be wondering where everyone else is, and deciding that I must either be late or early. But upon arriving at the classroom and seeing through the window that it was not my class, I'd have to think what day it was. It was soul destroying to realise it was was not Friday and was only Thursday, and that I had a whole other day to endure after this one before the weekend.

Then knowing that my lesson was at the opposite end of the school from where I currently was, and that I was going to be 10 minutes late... or I could just skip the class and save myself having to explain. In fact the longer I remain here debating whether it's worth going to class now, the later I will be, and the more likely it is that I'll decide it's not worth going. The last 10 minutes of class are never productive anyway, so there's only really half an hour's worth of class waiting for me, which is nothing...
