What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first season?

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

I think that it would have been a very different show. I tend to believe that Beltran couldn't carry the show and it would meld into an ensemble cast and leave room for some really awesome storylines in the absence of a powerful/disciplined captain.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

I don't think Chakotay would have been made captain. No way. When Bujold bowed out, they didn't even consider making Beltran captain, and I don't think they would have done so a season in. Good thing, too, as I'm not sure he would have been a good leader for the crew, later on. I think they probably would have "found" another Starfleet ship that the Caretaker had snatched from elsewhere inside the Federation and blended that crew--and I think Mulgrew would have been their choice for this "new" captain. Actually, it might have made for an interesting plot twist to do that! Instead of Seven coming in to "save" the show, it would have been Mulgrew. What an ego boost that would have been (and Mulgrew certainly didn't need it! :guffaw: ).

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

It's impossible.

there was some fuck up that Voyager season one completed on TV witht he airing of it's 16th episode. The final four episodes of season one are sometimes/often called the first four episodes of season two.

So she would've been wierdly phased out off camera on/before the 5 episode of season 2, or the final four episodes of season 1 could have been retooled for either flash backs or some sort of time travel adventure.

Actually, that might work in to the scenario better - if she'd become so unhappy that she was unwilling to complete the season the producers might have written her out in episode sixteen and held the remaining episodes back to kick off season two.

They probably disfigure her in some way and then repair the damage by giving her a face transplant from a dead female crew member then they'd explain that her personality change was due to the trauma. I doubt that Paramount would've wanted Woody Beltran to be the series lead.

Of course! The Vidiians could have done that! They took Durst's face, after all, and grafted it onto the guy that split B'Elanna in two!

Problem solved! ;)

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

I think the most likely scenario would have been that Kate Mulgrew would have been recast as the Captain and they would have gone onto the next season as if nothing had happened.

I just watched that episode this morning. That scene was freaky! :alienblush:

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

^ Exactly.

I always thought Geneviève was more Vulcan than Tim in the ready room scene.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

Bujold had an impressive resume, and maybe her agent gave a really good pitch for her.

But that ready room scene was painful to watch. It's that awful feeling you get watching someone do a really, really bad job.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

Perhaps after Geneviève Bujold bowed out, Voyager would come across a spacial anomaly connected to Earth and the new captain would be a 28 year old, third year Starfleet academy cadet with an attitude problem.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

roflmao - sounds like a plot for a movie!!!!!

Oh wait ........

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

How could there even be a 2nd season if Bujold had stayed on. She's a good actress in certain things. Voyager was not one of them. In fact, it's possibly the worse acting of a lead I've ever watched. Good riddance

But they only made fewer eps that season becasue they had recast and reshoot with Mulgrew. So if Bujold had stayed till the last episode there'd be a full season of 26 epsiodes

I've not heard that before - is there a source? It seems odd that a recasting during the pilot stage would cost a series 10 full episodes - they only shot a few scenes with Geneviève after all.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

I remember they did start the series at a strange point, in January.

I doubt it. Bujold left after one or two days, and Mulgrew was cast pretty fast. They shot scenes without Janeway in the time between Bujolds exit and Mulgrew coming in.
They had to reshoot more Janeway scenes because they decided to change her hairstyle after Mulgrew had started filming, but it was obviously not that much, that they lost almost half the season.

The reason Voyager's first season was short is pretty simple, it premiered in January, when UPN started broadcasting.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

Both DS9 and VOY had short first seasons--only 20 episodes--due more to both shows starting midway through their first respective TV seasons (DS9 launched in the latter half of the 1992-1993 TV season, while VOY launched in the latter half of the 1994-1995 TV season).

In the case of VOY, however, four episodes from its first season were held over for its second season. "The 37s" was actually the twentieth episode filmed for season one, but it wound up being the first episode aired of season two. "Elogium" was another episode filmed as part of the first season, but didn't air until the following season.

Re: What if Geneviève Bujold had left until the end of the first seaso

Nobody mentioned B'lanna as the captain? now THAT would be interesting. Sh was even more impulsive than Janeway.

Janeway just pops out of nowhere? I don't see how that would work in an in universe context.
