My current reading list consists of the following books (K = Kindle) (L= Library) (P = Paperback)

  • Zero Sum Game K
  • Seize the Fire K
  • CSI Shock Treatment K

I'll be curious to hear what you think of Shock Treatment. I have yet to see any reviews or comments on that book.

Finished Avatar: Book One last night and started Avatar: Book Two. I'd forgotten how much I liked these. S.D. Perry's writing is very easy to read. :)

Just finished reading Immortal Coil [just got it yesterday afternoon and finishing it this morning] and I absolutely loved it. I just wish I could find some more books with prominently feature of Data.

It's between three books:

Fudoki by Kij Johnson

Book 1 of The Flight of the Engineer series

or

Silver Metal Lover by Tanith Lee

Metamorphosis is the only other one I can think of.

ROUGH BEASTS OF EMPIRE! I finally got it last night, so I put down Myriad Universes 3 (for now;)), and I am throughly enjoying my time with Captain Sisko. Thanks DRGIII :techman:

Recently Finished: Small Gods (Pratchett), Catching Fire (Hunger Games pt. 2)
Currently Reading: MockingJay (final part in the Hunger Games Trilogy)
Next Up: Either The Bride Collector by Dekker or Duma Key by King.
On the Horizion : I've already purchased the first "A Time To" to start with TNG books, but I think I'll finish a few Dekker and King books I'm behind on (and perhaps a few more Disc World books) and after I finish watching TNG series, I'll start in with the "A Time to" books.

You did what????

Well, all I can say is that the Typhon Pact series had better be the best damn thing to ever happen to Star Trek Lit, to make somebody put down a parralell universe story, Star Trek or otherwise.

I on the other hand, am working my way through Myriad Universes 3, and NOT looking forward to it ending.

Last night I finished The Great American Wolf (a history of human interaction with wolves in North America) and The Golden Door by Isaac Asimov. I'm not sure what my next read will be: possibly Over the Hills: A Midlife Escape Across America by Bicycle, David Lamb.

I may read the screenplay to American Beauty again.

It flows so well; but, there are so many other books in my literal book pile I need to read.

I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, even though I saw part one when it came out last month, I've only read the book once, the weekend it came out in 2007 and I'm pretty shaky on some of the smaller plot points.

I started reading Star Trek 365 but then got into The Crack in the Lens by Steve Hockensmith. I also have two or three issues of National Geographic on my nightstand.

Recently Finished: Catching Fire (Hunger Games pt. 2)
Currently Reading: MockingJay (final part in the Hunger Games Trilogy)
I just finished The Hunger Games Trilogy via audio book a few weeks ago. I found it a brutal and exhausting experience. I can't imagine recommending the books to a teenager. I won't deny that they're compelling, but they're also just relentless in their horror - events follow one after another and continually beat down the main character until I just felt completely pinned down and hopeless. What few moments of joy Katniss managed to experience were almost immediately obliterated in the most terrible ways.

I downloaded them after the hoopla that the release of Mockingjay created. I honestly don't think I'd recommend them to anyone but teachers and librarians so they'd be aware of them, and perhaps therapists.

I finished Avatar: Book Two today and started Diplomatic Implausibility. I just went through my Trek collection and pulled out all the books I want to read to get caught up to the current continuity. My word, it's ... daunting.

So, I finished the trilogy tonight. The third book (Mockingjay) was clearly the strongest of the series. The action was pretty close to non-stop in this one with only a few reprieves in the fighting. It was definitely an intense series. I, like you, wondered if the poor kid (Katniss) was ever going to catch a break and by the end, wouldn't have been surprised by the way that things were going if every single person in the world she cared about in any way shape or form died......just to spite her existence.

It's funny you should mention recommending this to teenagers though. My 12 year old daughter was read "The Hunger Games' in class without any notice being given to us as parents that this was going to happen. When I found out about it, I had just heard bits and pieces about the Hunger Games and that's what prompted me to read the first book to begin with.

While I don't think it's a book I would recommend to most 12 year olds (or even 13-14) because of how violent (not graphically so, just what's occurring in the narrative) the content is, I will say it's completely devoid of language and inappropriate sexual content so I suppose for those kids playing Halo Reach, the violence in here may not be too bad.

In any case, this is a quick, easy trilogy that anyone can blow through at a pace of one book every 2-3 nights depending on how much time you have each night. I'd recommend it as a reasonably well written series with some nice twists in the end. Nothing earth shattering here but it's a competently told story.

Next: The Bride Collector

I just finished reading Just a Geek and the latest Cobra War novel. I also read the first couple stories in the latest Myriad Universes, and I started the latest Typhon Pact novel.

Unfortunately, my kindle 3 replacement has another defective screen, so I'll have to wait until Friday (when I receive another free replacement) to keep reading the latest Typhon Pact novel.

Trek wise, I've moved on to Rough Beasts of Empire and am thinking of getting Unspoken Truth next.

For the non Trekside of things, I'm also going to read War of the Worlds at some point:)
