Did I diss the Star Trek IV poster back there?
It's an official poster. You don't think the international market matters?

No, you didn't. Yet you did with the Star Trek XI poster, even though both are set on Earth and not in space.

One, one poster out of a host of posters for Star Trek.
This one here is set in space, but I guess it doesn't count either.
Why wouldn't it count? I was talking about the "Independence Day" like Star Trek poster. That poster isn't bad, but it still has photoshopped heads in it.
And seeing the Narada coming out of the rift to catch up with the Enterprise would have been a cool sequence. I mean, look at her. The Enterprise is getting pretty torn up there. Too bad it wasn't in the movie since there was hardly any action scenes between the two ships (freaking jellyfish stole the show).
I remember looking at the Art of Star Trek 2009 book a while ago and it had a fun little section on the poster concept. One of them that I really liked was one that had the black hole take up most of the poster and the Enterprise in the center looking right into it. It was nice because most of what you could see of the Enterprise was the lights from the impulse engines, warp nacelles and hanger deck. That would have made for a really cool poster that teased the look of the new Enterprise. And no decapitated head in sight!
Except Star Trek's about the people, not the damn spaceship designs.

So, you're not fond of the Enterprise in warp poster?
Sure, movies are about people, but if there's anything else you need to get movie goers aware of, it should include the mood, setting and theme. Since almost every movie in existence is about people, just focusing on people can be a bit too general and boring. Establishing what makes the film it's own thing like all those elements I mentioned can be a lot more effective than having a poster of nothing but your character's face giving you a lifeless stare (Thank you Benjamin Button). I think the Enterprise in Warp is a great example of setting up a lot while not showing much at all.
P.S. Even the Enterprise can be a character.

I just want to praise the original poster's efforts and say that I thought the poster looks absolutely fantastic. Not sure I dig the title but that's besides the point. I'm not sure what the debate is about though.
Posters for other ST movies and whether or not they convey ST enough or some such nonsense.

I'm old fashioned enough to think you should wait till you know what the movie is about before making the poster.
Most of the posters in this thread are very generic. The one with the beam zapping the GG Bridge, yeesh. Could it be any more cliched?
The b/w one has the singular advantage of not looking like everything else, and not treating Star Trek as if it were just another cookie-cutter disaster flick.
I'm old fashioned enough to think you should wait till you know what the movie is about before making the poster.

I too thought that most of the posters for the film were generic...posters in general are corporate and generic and don't take any chances. I loved the posters for "Black Swan" that were released. The one poster I did like was the "warp shadow" one of the Enterprise against a white back drop. I know most other fans didn't like it but I thought it was great and a tip of the hat to one of the TMP posters if I recall correctly.
I was thinking after I had finished it that it looks like they're angry at eachother again.
I'll probably do that too. I'm a complete geek and I've been trying to predict everything about this movie and the last one.

If you're making a teaser poster though there's not really any need to know the plot of the film. Studios do generic teaser posters all the time. "Thor" is a recent example. It's just Thor himself. I think the Trek teaser poster was the Starfleet arrowhead logo.
I like your poster. Now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is no longer the law, it has a new relevence.

I forgot whether I complimented him or not on his poster, came back and checked, and found that I had not. So, excellent poster, captainkirk. Nice and clean images, smooth overlays, I like that.
