Anyone here ever heard of a ZX Spectrum? I find myself playing some late 80s/early 90s classics, namely a maze-like arcade game called Gauntlet.

Still got a couple. One's a 48k rubber key model and the other's a 128k model. Haven't played them in a while but I remember enjoying Gauntlet on them:)

Cool. I have/had the +2A model which was an Amstrad make. Glad you like Gauntlet though. The game for me came as part of the Multimixx pack which also included The Deeper Dungeons and Gauntlet II. I'm not sure how many levels there are, but so far I can only make up to Levels 11-14 until I run out of health.

My long, long wait is over. Today I cracked open CRACKDOWN 2! :D The first game is shallow but it is just so much sheer fun, I've played it so many times.

After an hour or two of playing it, I'm afraid to say this game doesn't handle as well. The targeting doesn't work as well as the first game, it keeps locking onto random targets to the side and not the dude right in front of me!

The only one of those I've played is Splinter Cell: Conviction, so that's the one I would recommend. Conviction is the only SC game I've played since the original, in fact, and I had quite a lot of fun with the campaign and some fun with the Deniable Ops mode too. If you're an old SC hand, though, Conviction is a lot different than the past games, but that didn't bother a friend of mine who has played each installment and loved Conviction just as much.

Medal of Honor (PS3) - 2nd playthrough (Hard) + online multiplayer

    Halo 3: ODST (360) - 2nd Playthrough (Legendary)

Yeah, Crackdown 2 is not nearly as good as the first game. I miss the gang lords and the three different gangs. The controls aren't quite as good. It's the exact same goddamn city. I guess the mutants are a nice turn.

Ordered Halo Reach from Shop To £23.85 a fucking BARGAIN :techman: and was hoping it would come today but seems like it won't :(. Soon as that comes I will bash out on that...oh well looks like I can finish of last 5 chapters of Enslaved while I wait.

Might even try online (non co-op) for once in the series.

Yes, we had one of these.

I remember Gauntlet as an arcade game. One time when I went on holiday in the early 90s, there was an arcade room where we stayed, and this was the one machine that all of the kids would gather around.

If you enjoy Gauntlet, try 'Atic Atac'. It's a lot more fun. :)

I never really got into Atic Atac, despite it being rated as one of the Spectrum's finest. Out of my collection, Head Over Heels is probably the best rated. Brilliant isometric game.

Anyways, I attempted to play a massively underrated game yesterday called Sacrifice, created by Shiny about 10 or so years ago. Unfortunately, the latest Nvidia cards/drivers cause a severe lag and tearing effect. I can only hope a future driver release can fix that.

Hopefully, Civ 5 is due to arrive for me tomorrow, so I'll be playing that the next few days.

I have a some good memories of those old games, and I enjoyed the feel of the 8-bit era over what we have today. It felt cheerful and carefree somehow, which is a feeling that PC's have never given me.

The 8/16-bit era is also on par with my own game programming abilities. A number of those old games I would like to remake and adapt the original gameplay. A couple of them I have, but I often lack the motivation to finish games.

A Gauntlet style game is one of those on my want to make list. :)
