^ We already recently had 'Same Actor Plays 2 Versions of The Same Doctor' with 10 and 10b. We haven't had 2 or more different Doctors team up since The Two Doctors.

it could be done.. I was skeptical of the casting for a young Kirk in the JJ abrams trek reboot.. but after watching the movie a few times, I am cool with it.. I think that if a comedian can mimic Baker well enough then why not a serious actor who wants to cut his teeth in acting pulling a baker impersonation?? I think it can be done..
I disagree.. if the actor doesn't want to do it, then why would it be insulting?? It's the BBC's property.. not the actor's property.. heck they could make the fourth stuck in a time eddie or something..oh wait, they already did that.. can we have the scarf wearing time traveler back just for the 50th anniversary please?? (cgi, Look alike, or True Baker.. either way..)
hmmm.. yeah that would be cool.. or a doctor from an alternate dimension teams with ours.. the 2 doctors, but not..in the alternate universe the 11th Matt smith type doctor Who is a female!! that would be crazy!!

I don't see why there would even need to be an explanation. Just have some weird time thing scoop up a random assortment of Doctors. No need to explain where 1 - 3 are any more than they would need to explain where 12 & 13 are.
Thing is, the point of doing a multi-Doctor story as an anniversary special is because we want to see that particular actor again. Watching the Fourth Doctor played by someone pretending to be Tom Baker is not the same as watching the Fourth Doctor played by Tom Baker. If the actor is still alive, there is no reason why they shouldn't be brought back. And if the actor is dead, then that Doctor shouldn't be brought back, I don't care what they did in The Five Doctors.
See, that would be absolutely what I would do. Have Smith & Co. open the season. Then, devote the rest of the episodes to various past Doctors doing their solo thing, and come together for the two-part season finale/anniversary "The Eight Doctors".
The way I would approach "The Eight Doctors" is as a two parter. Part 1 has Matt Smith teaming up with David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston and Paul McGann. In the end of part 1, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy arrive and part 2 primarily focuses on them. Smith as the incumbent Doctor is still very prominent, though McGann, Eccleston and Tennant are basically just cameos in part 2.
This seems like the best way to make sure all eight get their due for this special.
I would love to see McCoy return as The Seventh Doctor (who remains my third favorite after The Fourth and Second Doctors) for the 50th anniversary. I want the biggest fandom celebrated event possible with all of the surviving Doctor actors returning with CGI recreations of the first three Doctors in the background. I'm not terribly keen on recasting them even if there is a precedent.
As has David Troughton. Having them portray their respective fathers would be the only way I would accept a recast. However, that being said, Frazer Hines does a killer Second Doctor in the Big Finish Companion Chronicles.
Sean Pertwee is more like his dad than David Troughton is, but I would still find it odd. If Sean PErtwee was to be the Doctor then I'd want him to be the 12th or 13th Doctor, not doing an impersonation of the 3rd Doctor. I do believe he's said he'd never do it (though I think he'd quite happily be the Doctor, just not his dad).
The latest four would be the best option IMO. Keeps the cast smaller and thus more likely to give them all something to do, and avoids the problem of having half the doctors look vastly different from the last time they appeared(minus Time Crash) AND you have an excuse for why it is only some of them, with those appearing all being the during/post-war incarnations.

Tom Baker looks more like Jon did as the Doctor.
It would be great to see any surviving actors involved in a season (or special episodes) to celebrate the 50th. It was great to see both McCoy and McGann at a con a few months ago.
I like The Wormhole's suggestion for a two parter multi-doctor story. I've not really seen that many Seven Doctor stories to have developed an opinion on him yet.
I, too, like The Wormhole's idea. I liked the Five Doctors, but there were a lot of separate little subplots that the writer needed to create and for the viewer to keep track of. I like the idea of handing off the story to another set of Doctors at the end of episode 1. To explain the different appearance of their age, perhaps 4, 5, 6, & 7 had teamed up elsewhen/elsewhere to travel to meet up with 8, 9, 10 & 11, but whoever's TARDIS they used for the trip traveled through some phenomenon that aged their outward appearances, but they acknowledged it was only a temporary, annoying thing that would wear off in a relatively short time-- and then got on with the story...
I also wouldn't mind some other (perhaps younger) actors playing the first three doctors (although this would/should require a longer arc), as part of the special/2013 series. I do not think it would be any insult, as much as it would be a tribute to those first actors, and think the spirits of Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee would appreciate having a homage to their great contributions to the programme.
