"The Walking Dead" best new series of the season?

Anyone been following the new AMC series 'The Walking Dead?' I think it's an excellent Zombie series - high quality and good back story.

Apparently it's getting a nod for a second season.

MSNBC
'The Walking Dead'
Only a few episodes into its freshman run and “The Walking Dead” is easily the most satisfying new series of the season. Fans of Robert Kirkman’s comic-book source material have to appreciate the somewhat-faithful translation of the original survival saga, while any zombie-film buff would find it hard to be disappointed by the big-screen-worthy, big-budget look.
Having already earned its “critics’ darling” status, AMC’s weekly glimpse into the undead apocalypse seems a safe bet for some time to come. Just one day after the second episode aired, the network ordered a second season.

I agree that TWD is the best show of the season - not that there's a whole lot of competition. This television season is one of the worst ever for new shows.

It seems like an odd fit for a zombie TV show to be on American Movie Classics but meh - who cares. Ever since AMC lost most of its library to Turner Classics they needed something better than repeats of 1980's films.

TWD also IMHO proves that high quality can be produced with smaller budgets than the mainstream networks pay.

It's good but not the best new show of the season. Boardwalk Empire, Terriers and Rubicon are better.

I think AMC is just AMC now.

Considering that 1/2 the programming on SyFy now is about ghost haunting I guess you're right. Speaking of which they were previewing the latest episodes of Ghost Hunters and they have the stars on the Real Housewives of Atlanta on the show. :wtf:

AMC has some of the best shows on tv right now:

Breaking Bad (three years in a row winning best actor in a drama series)
Mad Men (three years in a row winning best drama series)
The Walking Dead

I've really been enjoying this series. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for . . ..

Yah. It has been pretty bad.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of this show.

The characters seem stupid. (Hey, Red neck guy, why don't you spend your time trying to get the hacksaw BEFORE the zombies show up?) (Hey, Cop guy, no, it's NOT a good idea to go try and rescue an asshole that doesn't have any special skills)

Or they rip off a comedy (the Shaun of the Dead moment)

I'm somewhere in episode 3, haven't finished it yet. I'll get to it.

I do give them props for doing a zombie show....

^ Rubicion wasn't picked up for a second season, yes, but that doesn't in any way invalidate sidious618's statement.

I think that "The Walking Dead" is seen as being great just because it manages to not be as dreadful or as tedious as its contemporaries. People just seem so desperate for something that they've clung to this particular drama.

I tried watching it and thought it was typically boring AMC fare a la Mad Men and Rubicon--glacially paced, very little plot, pretentious for the sake of appearing sophisticated, treading very little in the way of new ground. Maybe it is just because I've seen so much tv and so very little of this is new or groundbreaking especially when it comes to dramas exploring the human condition but I just don't see what is so great about it--it is extremely overrated.

Yes, it is the best new series, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I think we have different sized seats.

For me, the first series of Survivors, the remake, was better than The Walking Dead, in the post apocalyptic genre.

I watched all of the BBC Survivors was good, but had no living dead to menace the living...a catalyst for the suspense of a scary threat.;)

I thought the living in Survivors were WAY scarier than these Zombies.

A much better catalyst for stories and conflict.
