The College Football Thread

^ Linky

Basically it's this: He wouldn't show up to give NU the trophy for the Big 12 North (nor did he send ANYONE to do it in his place). He said he got angry E-mail messages. Boo hoo fucking hoo.

That all sounds like the writer has a beef with the Big 12 office and not Beebe personally. Still, Beebe is the commissioner and you'd suppose that he'd have some kind of influence on getting SOMEone from the Big 12 office there.

Hey, Dorian Thompson, gotta put my admin hat on -- five messages in a row is a pretty clear violation of the spam rules. It's a forum, not a chat room. No infraction or anything, just a heads-up to limit the multiple posts in a row.

Thanks. :)

1 – Oregon (11-0)

The Beavers have a chance in Covallis—a slight one.

:vulcan: Maybe a chance in hell. The first half they might think they're going to get ahead, but our offense will wear down their defense and it will all be over. As long as there are no fake injuries. ;)

Unlikely. Tom Shatel is not known for having personal grudges with anyone or any organization.

His criticism is aimed straight at the Big 12 office, for not sending anybody to award the trophy.
That doesn't excuse the Big 12 from having someone here. Nobody in Nebraska would know Associate Commissioner Tim Allen from the comedian/actor Tim Allen. Or media chief Bob Burda.

Heck, the Big 12 could have sent Assistant Commissioner Ed Stewart. You know, the former All-America linebacker at Nebraska. Husker fans are going to give him grief?

Sounds like a conflict to me. ;)

Not so fast my friend! Beebe is the one receiving death threats. Shatel is giving him a pass for that very reason, particularly because of the advice from other security personnel. That leaves Shatel's comments which I quoted, an opinion with which I tend to agree. I honestly don't see why they can't send somebody. Perhaps Beebe honestly feels if he shouldn't go, how can he justify sending someone in his place potentially facing the same danger? That makes a certain amount of sense, too. Otherwise, this smacks of bias against Nebraska for leaving the Big 12 It will intriguing to see what happens should Nebraska win the Big-12 outright over Oklahoma.

Incidentally, the current BCS standings are:
Code:
Rank-Team Record BCS Avg.
1 Auburn 12-0 .9779
2 Oregon 11-0 .9777
3 TCU 12-0 .9167
4 Stanford 11-1 .8413
5 Wisconsin 11-1 .8185
6 Ohio St. 11-1 .7632
7 Arkansas 10-2 .7189
8 Mich St. 11-1 .6980
9 Oklahoma 10-2 .6980
10-LSU 10-2 .6067

I would REALLY love to see Stanford in the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin. A tremendous match up of possibly the two best all around teams in each conference (Wisc definitely, Stanford arguably). But according to the BCS rules the Rose would have to take TCU as the highest rated non-AQ

Agreed.

Oregon is one of my teams.

I root for Rutgers because I grew up in South Plainfield, which borders Piscataway. I'm an Air Force veteran, and so cheer on the Falcons specifically, and all the service academies in general. I'm Roman Catholic, thus Notre Dame has some of my loyalty. As for the Ducks, I went to school at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. Back then, the only available big time college football consistently on TV was the Quack Attack, and so I learned to love them Ducks. :techman:

For those mildly interested in the FCS playoffs, here's the bracket

Sadly, an all-poultry championship game is out, but there can at least be an all-poultry semi-finals.

Like I said earlier, If JSU wins and then GA Southern wins, JSU will get the home game. I really don't want to go to William & Mary.

So many teams that finished just OK in the CAA wanted to become FBS teams. I don't really get that. Then again, playing in the Patriot's stadium would be cool for them.

I'm so very glad the Vols are bowl eligible! And that the streak against UK is still alive. Things are looking a little less grim in K-Town! :mallory:

Otherwise, it was a bad weekend of CFB. My condolences to Dorian and all Pokes fans.

I needed a shower to wash off the grime that came from rooting for the Tide, and felt even worse about it when they didn't win.

Then even worse when Boise went and laid an egg. That said, congrats to Nevada! They've always seemed like a good quality team.

So... TCU in the Big East? Weird. And the MWC continues its weird shuffle - no more Utah, no more BYU, and now no more TCU. Instead, they'll have Boise, Nevada and Fresno. Did the cream of the WAC switch to the MWC - only to become the cream of that conference instead?
