What is the chance of one last hurrah for TNG?

indolover

Fleet Captain
Sir Patrick Stewart has said he is too old to play a starship captain, but what is the opportunity of one last hurrah, with all of the cast?

The focus, understandably, is on Abrams' Trek, but a TNG last hurrah could wrap up 24th century Trek, and allow a good basis for a Trek series in the 25th or even 26th century.

Is this just wishful thinking?

It's just wishful thinking. But I can't fault you for it. I'd love to see one last 24th century story, no matter what shape it took...but I really doubt we will. And each day that passes makes it less likely. :(

A bit too late, unfortunately. Stewart is simmering down the pace and is focused on other genres. I wouldn't be surprised if he was also trying to "put to bed" his Star Trek past, to keep more of the choice opportunities available to him. And really, without Stewart, I don't see much chance for a successful reunion. Unless...

Well, I'd really like to see an all out reunion. A mixture of people from TNG, DS9, and VOY somehow brought together on one ship, for one last "old school" hoorah. :)

I'd even settle for a remastered TNG, if they were wiling to do that. I LOVED what they did with TOS.:techman:

I'm with Alienesse on that. And I bet that will happen.

I was desperate to get the bad taste of Nemesis out of my mouth, but I learned to simply pretend it never happened, just like the Abrams monstrosity. Though if they decided to fix the time line in the next film I'd love seeing our favorite casts make appearances.

But hell, its Hollywood. Lets not forget how they inserted dune buggies into Nemesis for no reason at all. I have zero expectations.

I think everyone's moved on, though of course they're professionals and if the money was right, they'd ask when shooting started (just like all of us would). The question then is, would the money be right? I doubt it, since I don't see any studio thinking that there's a big enough demand for this reunion movie to justify the cost.

I don't really want to see this, though. That iteration of Trek had its time. Now it's time for something different.

Probably. A cinema mvoei? never going to happen. another series? nope. A direct to dvd movie? the only realistic option and then only if the next nutrek movie tanks so very very hard at the box office, which it wont.

The only hurrahs for TNG will be the novels, and even the TNG novels arent really that anymore with the changes in cast.

My thoughts exactly that NG era select cast members from TNG, DS9 and VOY for a Magnificent Seven style last mission.:bolian:

I'd be in favor of them Remastering TNG, but any new item they did would be tough to set up. Assuming they got everyone back, they have to deal with Data's death, or his katra now working in B-4. They kinda wrote themselves into a corner if you ask me.

Extreme wishful thinking. Though I Titan straight to dvd movie would be interesting.

It is Extremely wishful thinking, but what about a new trek series but from the Romulan point of view in the same era so you would still see Stewart every once in a while

24th century Trek is dead, Enterprise and Star Trek: Nemesis were the final nails in the coffin. I don't even think you'll ever get what you're looking for in the novels as The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager now look nothing like the TV shows.

Quite sadly, this is true. I haven't even bothered to read new novels, I've just read the old ones. And I'm happy with that.

Unless they come up with some new technologoy (which, to be fair may happen one day) it isn't going to happen any time soon.

As has been remarked before - they produced all the special effects and edited everything on video. Even though they shot it on film - they'd have to re-edit and recreate all the special effects from scratch.

Its a much, much bigger task than TOS remastered. Unless they can come up with some sort of HD scanning technique in the future - its not going to happen.

Oh, boy, that sure made my day.:ouch:
