Smallville Summer Hiatus Thread III (Spoilers)

Poor Tess. :(

SMALLVILLE — “Patriot” ( 8:00-9:00 p.m. )
DC COMICS CHARACTER AQUAMAN RETURNS WITH HIS WIFE MERA; TOM WELLING DIRECTS AND MICHAL HOGAN (“BATTLESTAR GALACTICA”) GUEST STARS AS COL SLADE. — In an effort to protect the rest of the team, Oliver (Justin Hartley) decides to register for the Vigilante Registration Act to see what the government plans to do with the new law. As he suspected, it was a trap to lure superheroes to an undisclosed location where he is confined to a jail and subjected to a battery of brutal tests under the supervision of Col. Slade (guest star Michael Hogan, “Battlestar Galactica”).

This is dumb because Oliver doesn't have superpowers...why test him?

"COLONEL SLADE"? I hope thats a mistake. Deathstroke's name is Slade WILSON.

It is hard to tell if we are even going to see actual Apokolips incarnations of Granny or anyone else. Godfrey was merely possessed by the "Darkness". The episode description for Granny Goodness' appearance could be interpreted the same way.

This is dumb because Oliver doesn't have superpowers...why test him?
I agree. I think it was a mistake to make Green Arrow the focus of this anti-hero arc. He would not be perceived as a threat. Even compared to Tony Stark whom they lifted "I am Green Arrow" from. He had the Iron Man armor and created it. It seems like Oliver has been elevated because of his assocation with "The Blur"

Someone like Martian Manhunter would be a much better choice. He is also an alien like Clark. He works for the Police Department. Think of the paranoia that could cause if that was discovered. Which could be used to draw actual parallels to the dangers Clark would face if his identity was made public. Clark is an alien being working for a major newspaper. He would be wrongly accused of trying to influence news coverage.

Oliver has been exposed to a lot of shit over the years including that repairo drug he was using in the beginning, he could have tiny little insignificant powers like 80/80 vision (does that make sense?) a fraction's worth of invulnerability or the super human strength to lift 2 more pounds than a regular human being... Then of course seeing him shoot, half a mile ballistic/parabolic trajectory, I gotta wonder if he has a super math brain like that kid form No ordinary family.

It might be early but it looks my theory will be validated. The scene with Tess standing behind Granny is telling but of course we don't know the context in which it occurs. I really look forward for this episode. Anyone else have their own thoughts or care to dispute my theory? I'm up for debate...even with Guy.

Well it hard to tell if there even is an Apokolips, New Genesis, or Boom Tubes in this version at all.

It was said that when Clark used the Book of Rao a crack was created in the universe and something sneaked in....

This something being their "Darkseid". A shadowy mass that can turn into many black birds with the ability to possess people...

In those pictures we see the previously possessed Godfrey with more characters who appear to be humans by their dress. So I would imagine they are more of the same.

I hope I am totally wrong on this.

Jet...Smallville Wiki's article for "Luthor" seems to confirm the revelations about Tess that were reported earlier!!! Noooooooooooooo!!

Oh geez. Yeah Alexander said something to Tess about not knowing who/what she really was. I can't remember exactly.

The theory was that she was a clone of Lex's mom, right?????

Wouldn't it be more likely she is just Lex's sister.

In the Silver Age comics Lex had a younger sister named Lena. She was unaware about her relationship to her brother. He turned to crime when she was very young. So their parents moved away with her and changed their last name to hide from his reputation.

Yeah...That would work too...Tess=Lena Luthor.

[edit] Some of the possibilities...

Tess=Clone
Tess=half sister or sister

The "spoilers" (I say in quotes only because it was reported on comicbookmovie which doesn't have the best reputation as of late) were that Tess will be revealed as Lex's sister. The reason why I'm so opposed to this if it is real is because i'd much prefer Tess as Lex's lover and protege. She's supposed to be Mercy damn it. Not Tess Luthor!!! Noooooo Jet please say it isn't soooooo.

I'd prefer Tess being a love child of Jor-El & Lana's aunt than be a Luthor.

She's supposed to be Mercy damn it.

She's not really one specific existing character. If they wanted her to be Mercy they would have called her MERCY GRAVES. Instead they mixed her with Miss Teschmacher to not be tied to either. As often with the show they wanted the fanbase to see her as possibly both to make her seem important. When really its a whole new character. That Tess's nickname was "Mercy" was dropped long ago.

I suspect if they make her Lex's sister its because of Michael's long absence from the show. It has been hard to play up a romantic relationship between 2 characters who have never appeared on screen together.

Also its fits with the Luthor family centric focus of the whole series. John Glover's willing to return before Michael sealed this direction.

Yeah I know she's not meant to be any one character....I was joking. When did they ever drop "Mercy" as a nickname? They just haven't brought it up for a while. As for the Luthor tie in, I just think it continues to undermine Tess as a character and speaks volumes about the writers not knowing what they've wanted to do with this character since this introduced her two seasons ago. They keep on introducing one mulligan after another without really explaining things. I think it's detrimental to her character and gives the writers trouble with writing her because they don't know who the hell she's supposed to be. Good thing that Cass has pretty much acted her with the same consistency all the way through.

As for Michael "sealing this direction" what do you mean? I'm confused by that statement.

I tend to agree while Ollie isn't a 'super-hero' in terms of abilities like Clark, MM, Impulse or Canary, he DOES seem to have above-average vision and the ability to calculate just HOW to fire those arrows. Not quite a meta-human, but superb normal senses, shall we say.

I mean after all, he IS the Batman of this series.

;)

It's obvious that Ollie Queen is meant to be their version of Bruce Wayne when he was brought into the show. They couldn't use Bruce because of the silly embargo so they thought about the next best character who has shades and similarities to Bruce and that's Ollie. Ollie and Clark never had the kind of friendship and relationship that they do in Smallville...Ollie's best friend was Hal, and he was friends with Barry. It's so obvious that Ollie is meant to be Bruce.

I think it's detrimental to her character and gives the writers trouble with writing her because they don't know who the hell she's supposed to be. Good thing that Cass has pretty much acted her with the same consistency all the way through.

I'll go along with that, Cassidy's acting ability is the only thing that's made Tess bearable, since it's obvious that neither Kelly or Brian have a clue as to who the character is or what role they really want her to play in all this.

It's always fun when a joking suggestion of mine gets worked into the continuity isn't it. I joked when she first appeared that Tess would either be:

1.) Another Luthor child.
2.) A female clone of Lex.
