DEXTER Season 5 Discussion & Spoilers

^ Yeah they've dropped a couple of hints with regards to the nanny. Hell, even the "practically perfect" line suggests some kind of foreshadowing.

Dexter catches a mysterious woman who may have witnessed him in the act of killing a killer; Deb has a frightening run-in with a murder suspect in the Santa Muerte homicides; and Quinn uncovers more striking similarities between Kyle Butler and Dexter Morgan.

I was worried the Lumen plotline was going to be too much of a repeat of the Doakes plotline, but it looks like it's going to be veering off into some fascinating new territory next week! :bolian:

I somehow doubt that Quinn getting suspended will stop him from looking into the Dexter and Kyle Butler connection.

In fact, he'll have nothing else to do.

Good episode. I like the concept of Dexter going after some slime balls in the slave trade (which is where it looks like the show is going).

Even better - Dexter not wanting to go after the slime balls in the slave trade and being blackmailed into it by Lumen, who recognizes that his skills in extermination and disposal will be just what her vigilante campaign needs.

Ironically enough, Dexter will become her slave. He can't kill her and he doesn't dare make her angry. Obedience becomes the only option. I just hope the writers have enough restraint never to turn her into an unsympathetic character or a big enough psycho that she will fit the Code and let Dexter kill her. It's so much more interesting if Dexter can't act against her - how does he get out of the situation before it blows up in his face and destroys them both? Not only does Dexter have to worry about being careful himself, he has to worry about Lumen, who isn't in any state of mind to be careful.

I think they have an incredibly good premise this season - maybe the best ever!

So will Lumen end up killing Quinn?

She clearly wants Dexter to kill those who hurt her, and if she's going to be Dexters protege, she might even insist on killing some of them herself. Once Dexter teaches her how to kill, and Quinn gets in the way.. Who knows what will happen.

Lumen killing Quinn is the easy way out, unless the writers find a creative way to deal with it.

My guess is that Quinn will find out who Dexter really is at the same time Debra does, and Debra will kill Quinn. Does it make sense? I don't know.

I do know--or at least am pretty sure--that Quinn is toast this year. The awful haircut and worse than ever spray-on-tan aren't helping his chances, either, since the supporting cast is mostly for standing around and looking pretty on this show (unless you're Masuka, of course). Combine that with an investigation of Dexter that's sure to come to only one conclusion, unless Quinn is shown to be unbelievably dumb (admittedly, his actions in the latest episode were pretty dumb, and a dramatic cheat to not get an answer from Jonah this early in the season/series).

PETER WELLER!!

I guess it was inevitable that he would appear on Dexter, considering that Manny Coto is now an executive producer on the show.

Weller's previous regular or recurring roles on TV consist of 24 (executive producer: Manny Coto), Star Trek: Enterprise (executive producer: Manny Coto), and Odyssey 5 (well, guess what...).

The plot w/Lumen went through the predictable paces - Dex tries to get her to go home, she tries to go home, she can't - but what happens from now on shouldn't be nearly as predictable. I have no idea where they're going with this, but I'm glad they didn't have Lumen overtly blackmail Dex. Much more interesting if his sympathy for her is part of what's keeping him embroiled with her story.

I really hope Lumen doesn't kill Quinn. I was disappointed in S2 when Lila killed Doakes, because I thought it was far too predictable when they did it the first time around.

I hope somebody tones down Peter Weller's performance in the next episode. My roommate noted that he was delivering his lines like he was in a western.

I still think Quinn is dead meat, and I'm starting to wonder if the young officer being paired up with Debra isn't being readied as his replacement.

I'm not really sure where the Lumen thread is going, but I hope it picks up the pace soon.

Angel/LaGuerta continue to be the show's Achilles Heel. They're married--why can't the two characters communicate with one another (answer: because then there wouldn't be any drama). Silly nonsense, and it doesn't look like it's over with this episode, either.

Meh. It's watchable, but the tension of season two is a distant memory at this point.

It was a pretty bad episode all around. I fell asleep and I never do that with this show. Someone take a machete to Batista...he's now more annoying than Quinn. When the highlight of the episode was Masuka's tattoo scene it spells trouble for the episode.

Well, Masuka often gets the best moments. Remember when he drove up in the Pussy Wagon last season? Brilliant.

Still, pick up the pace season five.

Maybe Quinn can take over Batista's job, RoboCop can become the new lieutenant, and knowing fully well who Dexter is, they send him out on "assignments." ;)

I think I was just about this bored at this point in season 3 so I'm hopeful that things can still ramp up to something exciting by the end of the season. So far though this season seems to lack focus, especially compared to season 4. I'm not sure what the writers are thinking with BaGuerta but they seem to have written two strong characters into a corner. Hint: Just because they're married doesn't mean that their every storyline has to revolve around each other.

Manny Coto took over? That's depressing news. If he's doing to Dexter what he did to Enterprise, cancel Dexter now. (Yes I know that Coto's lack of success is somehow still invisible to the majority of the bbs.)

Well, I liked it at least. :p

Some may call it slow, but I don't see the pace as really being any different from the first four seasons. They all started fairly slowly, with the tension not really ramping up until episode 8-9 or so. The show is great at set-up. I think the different feel this season is that it's trying to deal with more stories, while the others have generally had one main arc. That's not necessarily a negative in my book.

I'm still interested to see where Lumen goes as a character, and Julia Stiles has been impressing me more than I expected. Like others, I hope it goes somewhere unpredictable though. Just once I'd like the season's "special guest star" to live through the end...

I hope some of the other plots pick up, like Quinn looking into the ghost of Kyle Butler, and Deb learning more about Dexter (I imagine these will be intertwined in the end, and Deb has other priorities right now). I'm liking the supporting characters like the nanny and the officer Deb is working with, even if their story hasn't grabbed me yet.

As for Batista/LaGuerta...sigh. The writers still just don't seem to know what to do with them, but insist on giving them their own plots. If nothing else, while Angel's jealousy and bull-headedness may be annoying, at least it's consistent with his character from right back to season 1. He's always been overly passionate and thinks with his heart rather than his brain. And LaGuerta's always been stubbornly independent - her not communicating enough, even with her husband, doesn't feel out of character.

I have no idea who Peter Weller is, but that accent he used drove me nuts. I agree in hoping he tones it down a bit...

SERIOUSLY?! You don't know who he is? Hand over you geek card ASAP! :rommie:

The dude played Robocop btw.

I've always been bad at identifying actors....I just looked him up and yeah, I've seen him in a half-dozen or more things, just never knew his name!
