Sarah Jane Adventures: Series 4

Well finally caught up with pt 2 on iplayer so thought I'd give my thoughts.

On the whole quite an effective two parter, although sorry to see Luke go as he's surely one of the show's cruxes (is that even a word?) he isn't the greatest actor in the world, and Rani and Clyde are far more likeable.

Was watching part one and wondering if that was Bleach so wasn't surprised to see his name in the credits. I seriously don't know if I've ever seen that guy out of makeup! Saw him in the Tempest at Stratford with Pat Stewart where he played Caliban (who was a lot like the Nightmare Man) He got sadly less creepy as the story unfolded, started out creepy and ghostly but just ended up Frank Gorshin!

Loved little old lady Sarah Jane though, Lis really got her teeth into that.

I think I'm going to miss Mr Smith and K-9's bickering most of all...they're just like Zen and Orac!

And sorry Rani, you're cute but nowhere near the hottness that is Sarah Jane!

the only thing i didn't like was the look of the Nightmare Man. he was creepy and well played, just looked like a poor man's Joker. also, i was more sad to see K-9 leave than Luke.

Yeah, but it was simple and effective-ish at least...he looked better than those vulture aliens will!

The way he was filmed early in the first episode was very well done, extremely creepy.

the vultures seem like they would be better suited in an episode of Power Rangers.

a improved 2nd episode, even Tommy Knight improved, a nice tale of with self belief and a little help from your friends you can do anything, a good message for kids.

Plenty of mentions of theDoctor as well.

ES was good as Cyldes older Sarah Jane, first of all she looked great, even if reminded me of Catherine Tate at one point.

As for the sentient concrete, Sarah Jane has alot of stuff just sitting on a shelf in the attic, but its a nice cheap prop, make a cheap episode as well.

I almost hoped we would see a glimpse of Luke, K9 and some new people fighting an alien at Uni, just so we have some idea what happens to Luke. Sarah Jane has certainly set him up with all he needs for that. As long as it does not have a talking car.

I did like the sentient concrete, it was sort of a like a big F-U, no stinkin' CGI, no stinkin' FX, just a piece of rock. EDIT: I take that back I guess it did light up.

The acting just couldn't make this one compelling though the Nightmare Man was trying. I think I wasn't in a good mood though and might give it another watch at some point.

I'm hoping there's some comedic post modernist explanation for them looking so poor!
I certainly hope so, I know folk tell me for having high standards when it comes to Doctor Who, but those vultures really do look awful.

Im loving how the elements of "Dreamland" are all now showing up in SJA, first the ship, now those black men in suits, maybe RTDs should have written it as a SJA episode.

The BBC are using them in the SJA trailer so I doubt it. I think they actually believe they look good.

Put me down for also hoping that the 'vultures' are fake, and perhaps theres an alien inside each one that looks like a small plucked chicken.

When does this air in the UK? How have there been two episodes already? Was it a special back-to-back schedule?

Oh that's sweet! Thanks for the info. I thought only Torchwood was doing the mini-series scheduling. :techman:
