Don't even try to ruin my good mood!

Usually when someone specifically says "The City", they are referring to Manhattan, NYC.

I'm sorry, I'm from San Francisco so I have a little West Coast Bias. ;)

Of course it does seem appropriate with the smugness of most New Yorkers so go figure.

I just said "the city" because I was being vague, not implying that there's only one city of any importance. :p

But yes, it was Manhattan.

Well that didn't seem overly necessary.

It probably wasn't, and I apolgize. It's just kind of how I feel about New York in General. They think they are the center of the universe and living out west, I see a bit of a superiority complex to that city. Again, in the interest of keeping this thread civil, I retract that statement and move on.

That's true, but then BolianAdmiral came in with the there's only one city worth mentioning thing and that was what brought that bit of arrogance out.

Yeah, I imagine living in San Francisco you guys refer to that as the city.

In real life, sure. On here though, I probably would be a little specific, but then I say where I'm from in my Location so what is the first city you think of when you think Bay Area. Probably not Oakland or San Jose, even though I think San Jose is getting up there.

There's nothing arrogant about it. It is a fact. New Yorkers call Manhattan "The City"... it is the local's nickname for Manhattan. Ask any native New Yorker, or visit any NYC forum and ask, and they will tell you that. Like I said, I'm a New Yorker, so I knew what he meant right off.

I'm unpacking and trying to force myself to adapt to a radically different time zone before I have to get up for work tomorrow. But along the way I may have sort of set up a date for Friday night so we'll see how that goes.

Well, know we know New York embraces the smugness. Maybe what I said was more of an unintended compliment than insult.

I had a family reunion yesterday. It was a blast! Still giggling over some trash-talking bloke who interrupted our game of horse-shoes. He was really good, getting ringers on a regular basis, but a first timer like me coasted in on good first timer's luck (heh heh) sent him packing.

My New Yorker parents raised me in the 'burbs, but life still revolved around The City, so I knew exactly where you meant.

But when you're dealing w/ the wider world, there are other cities that are referred to as "The City" in their own regions.

Did some grocery shopping at the farmer's market... went for a stroll and picked up a DVD and a video game on impulse... came home for tea and caught up with X-Factor On Demand... got through three loads of laundry and a load of the dishwasher. Quite a typical Sunday, really. A bit geriatric all in all I suppose, but sure beats Sundays of a few years ago when I would usually be nursing a colossal hangover, hiding from the sun, bleary eyed, and trying to catch up on lost sleep... those were the days... :shifty:
