MOAR PICS

The Tonka restoration shop has been busy over the last couple of days on a few more of my old Tonka trucks from my childhood.

I think this one turned out very nicely. I may not let the kids play with it any more. ;)

Those are AWESOME!!! Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around my Tonkas. Each year, my grandparents would get "the boys" a different Tonka. I had quite a collection. Nice restoration jobs. :bolian:

Saw this on the freeway today.

To dumb!

That's classic! Sad, but classic.

I wrote a sign on a scrap of paper that read: TOO, TWO O's!!!, and my sister held it up to the window as we passed the driver. I don't think she noticed, but we got a kick out of it!

Seriously? That's awesome! :bolian:

Though, someone who could create that abomination in the first place probably wouldn't understand your sign to begin with.

^ When you say the "tonka restoration shop" ....are you actually taking them somewhere or are you doing them?

I'm doing the work myself. It's been fun. What's really neat is to see the kids light up when they see them.

It is really cool that these were your actual toys from childhood.

That's mainly why I'm doing it. I had a lot of fun with those trucks and now my kids can do the same.

I'm curious as to the value of reconditioned tonkas. Do they go up in value if reconditioned? I realize that in mint original condition is best ...but do reconditioned tonkas have any monetary value or is it all emotional? I ask because i collect vintage Barbie dolls (my childhood toy) and there is a line that gets crossed as far as what work is done and how much work is done.

I never really looked, but I would suspect that original condition is more valuable than repainted, unless it was a total reconstruction where everything was taken apart and reconditioned.

Thanks.

I spent yesterday at the Newseum in D.C. and had fun. One day isn't enough for it.

Lots of great stuff to see- part of the Berlin Wall:

^ Heh, "Cone of shame"!

Hansen Bro: Thanks for answering! I often see old Tonkas in need of a lot of work at yard sales and i never know if i should be picking them up or not.

More of my adorable nephew! I must admit, though, that I have ulterior motives in posting the cuteness. You see, my sister has started her own business from home, and this is her "office," Liam sharing her lap with her computer. She entered a contest to win a home office, so if you have a moment and want to help her win by voting, you'd be helping a great gal!

Yeah, I actually went in looking at a tan one I found online, but then this orange one was there too, and it was actually cheaper for more features, so I went with it.

Well my being an artist makes color very important to me and I think you chose well, even if it was for the extra features. It is awesome and makes a nice statement. :bolian:
