Whoopi Goldberg's Nichols story

Hi,

I'm searching for the Nichelle Nichols being inspiration for Whoopi Goldberg story. So far I barely found anything on the web about it.
Does anybody know a video/text interview by Goldberg about it?

Thanks :)

Maybe Whoopi was thinking about quitting TNG but the call from Nichols saying that she was an inspiration to black women made her change her mind.

From What I Recall....

Essentially when Whoopi was growing up she turned on TV and noticed Star Trek was on, she saw Uhura and ran to her mother shouting "Ma!! theres a Black Woman on TV and she ain't no maid!!!"

Essentially this inspired her Whoopi to become an actress, realising that Black Women could be in main roles

Thanks, but I know the story :-) I'm just looking for some kind of web reference. I find some that are none.

I think maybe she tells this story on the extras for one of the tng box sets-- the second season (first one with Whoopi) maybe?

I thought where I saw it was that Trekkies documentary. (Nichelle Nichols told it, not Whoopie.)

Interesting that Whoopie doesn't ever seem to tell it...Nichelle just tells it ABOUT Whoopie.

On Nichols' Wiki page there are 2 refs to print sources. Maybe there it's Goldberg's story.

I have seen an interview wherein Whoopi Goldberg repeats this story. It was connected to the premiere of ST09. I'll look to see if I have it recorded anywhere.

One of the sources is supposed to be an interview by Whoopi on a TNG DVD set. Someone here must have watched that?
