Instead of killing her, what if the Yellow-Eyed Demon had abducted her and put her in some kind of hellish prison and the moment he died in the Season 2 finale Jessica was released from her prison and joyfully reunited with Sam? How do you think things would have unfolded from there? Do you think Jessica would have joined Sam and Dean on the road and become a hunter like them? What about Ruby? Would Sam and Jessica's relationship ever be the same again?

It's the very first episode, and kind of integral to the whole setup. Not much of a spoiler.

Jessica never could have survived. She would have just screwed up the dynamic.

I think it should turn into something more like a GBOTW thread.. Joe Washington's What If of the week. There can be a poll to gauge the relative merit of his What If... he can drop hints as to what the next What If thread can be, and instead of having spoilers it'd just be What If: Week #12 - Supernautral... or something.

At least I don't give half a shit about ever watching Supernatural, but I know Joe, and Joe's gonna get me sooner or later!

I don't thimk that Jessica joining the brothers would have been beneficial to the dynamic of the show. Sam needed a kick to want to hunt again. Jessica's death provided that kick.

Yeah and while its true that if Jessica came back to life say end of season 2, I can't see her wanting that life for anything. But at that time frame Sam has already change dramatically as he was the driving force at hunting (not Dean). To have any real chance of changing Sam's motivation there would have to be some thing that changed about his feelings of having no direct control over his life and the feeling that he has to actively save people to make up for the his malefic destiny.
