French lawmakers Approve Full Veil Ban

Aw, you changed it. And I had a funny reply. But it was kind of sarcastic. Just like the comment you quoted. ;)

You said that the veil is banned because it is a symbol of inequality in a particular culture. So I sarcastically suggested that an Atheist, formally registered as such under the increasingly Fascist French government, would be free to wear a veil, because it has no such symbolism in that person's culture. By the same token, a registered Deist or Catholic would be free to wear the veil-- as long as they have their papers with them when they are stopped by the gendarmes.

 But registered by who and to whom ? This is nonsense (and particularly uninformed)
Yup, to take a quote from you

you just don't get it

French people may not live in the holy land of liberty, but not even in France the government keeps track on individuals religious belonings. Nor anywhere in Europe.

It isn't just the Americans that have this "crazy" idea of freedom.

No, your idea of freedom. The American (and anglo-saxon......) view on religions is not universal.

BTW : laïcité

You guys have a culture war against religion and religious expression. I get it.

It's called taking away freedom (one of the original reasons Europeans started moving to what would become the United States). The government is sticking it's nose into a place it doesn't belong and telling people "Oh no no no, you can't wear that in public! It has religious connotations!! OUTLAWED!!!"

You tell me what is the truer definition of freedom. Telling people they can't wear something because it has to do with religion or telling someone we don't care that you are wearing that even if it has religious meaning or not?

I can only assume that if cutting hair and styling it like a mohawk were associated with some religion that France would eventually outlaw walking around in public with that haircut.

So there is a grace period but this is just anti-censorship of peoples faces some people I just don't want to look at and the veil works ,, I would wear one or sunglasses something like that.

War is a little too much.

This is your historical backgroung. If you had a little knowledge about my historival backgroud, maybe you would find our point of view amore logical.

It's not what's in the text. The text says that you can't hide your face, that's all.

You tell me what is the truer definition of freedom.
There is no true definition of freedom.
There is yours and you're happy with it, there is mine and I'm happy with it. The world doesn't have to be black or white.

Only if it's a symbol of enslavement and if it's a problem with public order.

Wait, so does French secularism mean that there are no public displays of religion whatsoever?

Not a lot. There is no law against it but it's unatural for us.
The same way I don't want to be seen naked in public, I don't want to show my religion.

Sorry, I guess I don't get it. Is the veil ban about secularism being legislated, or is it about trying to protect these women from themselves in some manner?

This just proves how stupid radical Islam is... France BANS the expression of their faith in this way, and Spain is considering doing it as well, yet they attack America, where women are FREE to wear burkas and whatever else they want... yeah, lots to hate here...

It's because we allow other religious faiths to express themselves... Oooh, we're evil for allowing everyone to communicate their faith! OMG, we're sooooo horrible!!

I don't think it's a good idea. They should have the right to practice their religion as they see fit. There's nothing inherently dangerous about wearing veils.

Yes l have to agree that a woman should be able to wear her veil but l think if the person is in full dress which there was a image on the link l did show you where the woman is all in black.
A man could pose as a woman that way and you wouldnt know which gender a perosn would be.

Also l think with all these terrists going around bombing certain areas it is wise to be safe than sorry.

As we saw this past summer in Time Square, you don't need to hide in a veil to place a bomb.

Yes l have to agree on that too.
I know of a terrist attack in Bali where a few Indoneasion men wore palin clothes and blew up a nightclub.
88 Australians were killed in that attack.
