A pity, this topic would be much more enjoyable if it was in TNZ^ Yeah, I liked it more before I changed it, too. But then I realized this was not in TNZ.![]()
Yup, to take a quote from youYou said that the veil is banned because it is a symbol of inequality in a particular culture. So I sarcastically suggested that an Atheist, formally registered as such under the increasingly Fascist French government, would be free to wear a veil, because it has no such symbolism in that person's culture. By the same token, a registered Deist or Catholic would be free to wear the veil-- as long as they have their papers with them when they are stopped by the gendarmes.
But registered by who and to whom ? This is nonsense (and particularly uninformed)

you just don't get it
It isn't just the Americans that have this "crazy" idea of freedom.
No, your idea of freedom. The American (and anglo-saxon......) view on religions is not universal.
BTW : laïcité
You guys have a culture war against religion and religious expression. I get it.
This is your historical backgroung. If you had a little knowledge about my historival backgroud, maybe you would find our point of view amore logical. It's called taking away freedom (one of the original reasons Europeans started moving to what would become the United States).
It's not what's in the text. The text says that you can't hide your face, that's all.The government is sticking it's nose into a place it doesn't belong and telling people "Oh no no no, you can't wear that in public! It has religious connotations!! OUTLAWED!!!"
There is no true definition of freedom. You tell me what is the truer definition of freedom.
Only if it's a symbol of enslavement and if it's a problem with public order.I can only assume that if cutting hair and styling it like a mohawk were associated with some religion that France would eventually outlaw walking around in public with that haircut.

Wait, so does French secularism mean that there are no public displays of religion whatsoever?

Not a lot. There is no law against it but it's unatural for us.
The same way I don't want to be seen naked in public, I don't want to show my religion.
I don't think it's a good idea. They should have the right to practice their religion as they see fit. There's nothing inherently dangerous about wearing veils.
As we saw this past summer in Time Square, you don't need to hide in a veil to place a bomb.I don't think it's a good idea. They should have the right to practice their religion as they see fit. There's nothing inherently dangerous about wearing veils.
Yes l have to agree that a woman should be able to wear her veil but l think if the person is in full dress which there was a image on the link l did show you where the woman is all in black.
A man could pose as a woman that way and you wouldnt know which gender a perosn would be.
Also l think with all these terrists going around bombing certain areas it is wise to be safe than sorry.
I know of a terrist attack in Bali where a few Indoneasion men wore palin clothes and blew up a nightclub.
