Nimoy's Salary?

I believe this thread is a thinly veiled attempt to intimate that Nimoy spoke positively about this film only because he was paid to. This is insulting.

I can assure you that this thread was not a thinly veiled attempt to intimate that Nimoy spoke positively about the film only he was paid to. I would imagine every actor on the press junket for any movie would speak highly of the film they've made regardless if they like it or not so I don't pay too much attention to it. Nimoy has always been gracious about how he was approached to do this movie and the experience he had. I have no reason to not believe that he was genuine.

Again, I was just curious about the business side of it. I guess I was hoping that Nimoy was paid well for what he did as well as what he's done for the franchise.

So maybe not the OP, but some others in the thread, are attempting to do so. I say, let them be cynics, let them thrash, let them insult:

(alright, it was an excuse for me to use that gif)

Whatever the actual amount, Mr. Nimoy was worth every cent. I agree that most of his pay was probably on the 'back end'.

Not at all. In every interview, Mr. Nimoy seems to be honestly appreciative of the opportunity this film gave him to be a Hollywood "big dog" one last time. Especially when you consider that they could have gone a dozen different ways with this film, yet decided to hinge the entire story around him. He seems to genuinely understand that. I hope he DID get a back-end deal, because the film was so successful that he would have made millions. A just reward I think.

Actually, no, they sat down with him before they wrote the script.

Of course they met with him first! The meeting was well publicized. They also met with Shatner. IIRC, their "favoured nations" contracts, signed before ST:TMP began shooting, included a clause that they should be consulted about the recasting of their iconic roles. JJ met with them both to suss out their feelings on lots of things.

JJ's team would have been crazy to write a whole script that needed the participation of Nimoy without ensuring he was already open to the idea of acting in it, but he still asked to see the final script before signing aboard.

He took the job because he liked the story that was pitched to him. Subtle difference.

He expressed interest in the story pitched to him and signed aboard enthusiastically after reading the script.
