lol Explain the sucsses of The Golden Girls

Well, if you want a Star Trek series made to cater to the audience that Golden Girls was made for, you enjoy that - I'd kind of like then to stick to the 18-49 demographic, thanks. Also, you might want to try using a contemporary example in the same action/adventure category that Trek is in to prove your point, not a 20 year old sitcom.
I thought you might ask - I'm using the magic of common sense myself.
More seriously, nuTrek has had wild success with a cast of young, sexy people in a fun, fast paced action flick. Why would anyone with any business sense then invest money in a follow up series with a cast with 2 of the lead roles being people in their 50s and a lot of the rest of the cast being funky aliens and the premise of the show reverting to the old Trek exploration premises?
And I'm just saying that no network is going to follow up nuTrek with the adventures of Ma and Pa Riker. I mean, who else would be a main character in Titan if you're going off the novels? Who would provide the youth and sex appeal?
Also, the trend in Trek now seems to be revitalization/reinvigoration. Frankly, the series needs it. It's over 40 years old and it seemed like it was down for the count. How does casting old people as leads convey that image of revitalization that they're clearly working on? More importantly, why would they go backwards to shows that have already had their run and draw their cast from there? If they do that, it makes their series seem like there's no evolution or progression. They're just stuck using the same characters over and over and over...
Frakes yes. Riker no. Riker was in his late 20s when TNG started.
More like mid-30s! (TNG premiered in 1987 and Frakes was born in 1952.) Riker's age could be got around without recasting by making an animated series. A properly done 3D animation in the SW: Clone Wars style would IMO have some chance of success. Frakes could still be cast as the voice of Riker, and Sirtis could be Troi. Both have said they'd be willing to revisit their Trek roles. Additionally, making an animated rather than a live action series would avoid the expense of a number of CGI characters and alien makeup.
BSG was a reimagining, not a reinvigoration. There's a huge difference and if you can't or won't understand what that difference is, then there's just no point in arguing this with you any more.
i would love to say yes but NO it wouldnt work. I dont think that there will be another Star Trek ship series, i heard a bird tell me the there could be a series about life at the Starfleet accadamy. but dont shoot me if im wrong.
That just seems like wishful thinking to me. For one DS9 was as much part of Berman Trek as TNG or Voyager. He was the boss of that show and he approved of everthing that happened on it.
Secondly, as much as it paines me, DS9 was not a ratings success. It did better than Voyager but no where near as good as people hoped it would. It's a miracle it got seven seasons.
It's a simple enough reason. Money. That's pretty much all there is to it.As to the bigger issue of this thread, I sadly agree, no network will ever revive 24th century Star Trek. Sexyness and action seem to be the favourites of the day. Why TPTB are so desperate for Star Trek to be main stream I don't know.

People have been saying that since 1997.
Let me be the first to call it "Smallville Trek" should it happen.
