Could they pull off a Titan series?

Seriously? That's delusional. In real life, he's pushing 60 and she's just over 50. And she was rocking a bit of a belly in TATV... Not that Frakes wasn't looking like the Michelin Man himself

Frakes yes. Riker no. Riker was in his late 20s when TNG started.

If they did, I'd watch as long as they didn't include all the stupid characters from the novels with ! in their name and such. Man, that was ludicrous.

More like mid-30s! (TNG premiered in 1987 and Frakes was born in 1952.) Riker's age could be got around without recasting by making an animated series. A properly done 3D animation in the SW: Clone Wars style would IMO have some chance of success. Frakes could still be cast as the voice of Riker, and Sirtis could be Troi. Both have said they'd be willing to revisit their Trek roles. Additionally, making an animated rather than a live action series would avoid the expense of a number of CGI characters and alien makeup.

I love the Titan novels that are out but was wondering if it would be possible to make this into a series? The reason I ask is the crew, they are mostly alien and a lot of the characters (like chakka and Torvig) would have to be CGI.

DO you think this would be feasible or if they did go along with the story line that characters like this would just be written out?

First: Riker and Troi are way too old/fat/past it to lead a TV series.

I don't think Titan could be done convincingly at a TV budget. I think the result would resemble Sanctuary - very obvious and unconvincing CG backgrounds and characters, and CBS would never allow one of their top properties to appear cheap and nasty when stuff like SGU has far fewer but much more convincing CG aliens.
I don't think the Farscape muppets would work in Trek, either.

The only way Titan could work is as a cartoon series. There were some neat "Titan animated" character pics posted in the art forum a while ago.

:wtf:This is one of the most absurd thing I've heard on this board. They would still be in their forties in the trekverse, younger than Picard was when TNG started. They are far from too fat especially Troi/Sirtis from looks of her in TATV.

The Idea that Frakes and Sirtis are to old is ridiculos they are older in the show. They are there real ages in the show or something close to it. With the exception of Kirk and Sisko every Captain has been mid 40's or older. People in the 24th century live to be almost 200. Picard is in his 70,s and that is considered middle aged.

They are know where near too old.

Does not look "fat" to me:rolleyes::techman:
I would love them still to play Riker and Troi:cool:
Yes, to some they maybe "old" but finding actors with similar chemistry than Frakes and Sirtis have..would not be easy.
Besides, they could give the other roles to younger actors and actresses..if its about age..

Also the idea that VOY was such a failure is funny to me. I understand it has lower raitings but if it was such a failure how did it last 7 seasons just like TNG and DS9?

Well, since we're talking about the possibility of a TV show being made, why don't we keep our sensibilities out of the imaginary 24th century and talk reality here, okay?

Patrick Stewart may be 70 now, but when he started as the lead of TNG he was in his mid 40s. Starting up a show with a man in the leading role at age 60 is absolutely unheard of these days and would be disregarded out of hand. Moreover, the "sex appeal" of the show is over 50 now. How do you think the network (doesn't matter which one) would like that?

Why in the name of all that is holy would any network air a Star Trek show with two over the hill actors in leading roles when the Trek movie franchise is rolling out sexy young people in its title roles? Remember, the desired audience is 18-49 year olds.

Because it was the flagship show of the UPN network which was a sinking ship and they were just trying to hold on to anything they could. You can deny it all you want, but its ratings were shit. As a network, it's generally hard to cancel the only show you have.

But Edward James Olmos was 57 when he played Adama in BSG.

She does look better there than she did in TATV, but she still looks 50.

The thing is, networks don't give a shit what fanboys want because to them it's all about the bottom line. Old, mediocre actors do not improve the bottom line and that's all there is to it.

Surrounded by a cast of sexy, MUCH younger people.

Ok so some of the supporting cast could be young and sexy people. The idea that they are to old just doesn't work.

Yes, it really does. Just because you say so, doesn't make it so.

Also, Olmos is a considerably better actor than both Frakes and Sirtis put together.

Listen, Titan works as a novel series, but would never work as a TV series no matter how much fanboy denial you want to bring to the table. It's just not TV material.

Just because you say so doesn't prove your point. You offer no evidence to prove your point.

He is a Captain he can be a little older, she is still attractive but the sex object wouldn't be her role anyway. She would be more of a mother figure.

Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Well then, Titan is a completely viable option and I'm sure it'll be a ratings bonanza. Good luck selling it to the networks! Though with a bang up cast like Frakes and Sirtis and a wonderful premise like "a bunch of diverse, expensive CGI aliens just do some exploring" who needs luck, am I right?

No one is saying the series would work??? We are saying that the reason you are giving doesn't work.
