What episode would you want them to "remake"?

Sabataage

Commander
Red Shirt
Space Seed is an obvious one. Balance of Terror has always been popular. Some of the best movies have cited that one as an influence. What else?

In a way, I could see something like Conscience of the King as a dramatic B-plot for Kirk-- complete with 'Lost'-style flashbacks to the Tarsus IV massacre. Kirk's mother (played by Cameron from House again) would appear, as well as Shatner (in his cameo) as Grampa Kirk, a mentor for young James. Mama Kirk is spared Kodos' selection process, but Kirk and Grand Dad get dragged off to be executed. In my mind, Granpa would then die saving the kid-- throwing himself at a guard and kicking ass before the end. Basically give Shatner the heroic send-off he should have gotten the first time around.

What others?

But that's the one they can't do! Starfleet knows who the Rommies are this time around.

The only one I want them to remake is Mirror, Mirror. Evil Spock played by Zach Quinto - yeah!

How about Operation: Annihilate, except this time around Spock has warned the colonists about the flying fried eggs. But since nobody knows where they came from or how, all they can do is wait for that fateful day when the breakout occurs. They set up some machines that will blast the critters with the wavelength that will kill them and then hunker down inside to wait. But of course their plans go wrong...

Basically, I just want an excuse to establish that George Kirk does, in fact, exist. I'd like to see him played by Jensen Ackles.

Spock's Brain just because of how ironic it would be now

Also get a director that would do this as a comedy film, not a serious film. That's where they screwed up the first time.

Just imagine how horrible it would be if they used Ben Cross to play the Romulan commander!

No more remakes. No. No. No. Surely the whole point of setting it in an alternate timeline was not have to curry to canon. It would be cool to see Harry Mudd in the background of some space station.. homage-y moments I'm all for. That's about it. Otherwise, onto new stories please. With Vulcan gone surely we could get some great Vulcan storylines that are original.

"These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise... to seek out NEW life and NEW civilizations... to boldly go where no Trek movie nor episode have gone before!"

"New" is impossible at this point. If you hired a team of writers who had never seen an episode of Star Trek in their whole lives and asked them to write a dozen original stories, I guarantee you twelve out of twelve would look exactly like what's already come before. There are only so many narratives out there, even for something like Star Trek. "What if they visit a Nazi planet? ...Wait, seriously?!"

For example, I could easily see Errand of Mercy, but without the Organians to fix everything in the last five minutes.

I think "The Doomsday Machine" is the obvious one - there's a core of character conflict, a strong action/combat element built into the premise, and the opportunity for the effects folks to...indulge themselves. The show may be the best example in TOS of how to make an sf action story really gripping without falling back on a central villain (in the traditional sense) to drive events and create the main challenge, while still offering an opportunity for powerful dramatic confrontations between the major characters and a sympathetic "heavy."

Imagine the range of casting possibilities for Commodore Decker. Imagine writing that character and his main problem into a story of cinematic sweep and scale.

Cast Lindsay Lohan to play the BRAIN AND BRAIN! WHAT IS BRAIN? girl, and it's an instant classic! :bolian:

I was gonna suggest that one, but Spock should be able to extrapolate the position of the Doomsday Machine and make a decent guess at its location just from memory. They know how to disable it once they find it, so what's the problem to be solved?

Maybe something like: the Enterprise needs to cross the territory of a previously unknown empire (since the Doomsday Machine is going to be way outside explored territory at that time). This empire plays nice for a while, since Kirk & the gang claim to be on a mission to rid the galaxy of a dangerous rogue weapon. But of course the honchos of this empire hear "dangerous rogue weapon" and think "something we can harness to whomp our neighbors" or maybe the Feddies as well? The last thing they want is for this interesting new weapon to be rendered unusable...

Most if not all the events from original TOS can be used to craft new stories without rehashing the old stories. They're just a jumping off point.

Oh, now that's a cool idea. Six months after Nero's defeat Spock, Kirk and the Enterprise are already legends within the fleet as they've gone around solving crises before they even start. Going off a "cheat-sheet" Spock Prime gave them, they're able head off disasters sometimes decades ahead of time. Kirk: "Do not colonize Omicron Ceti III, due to deadly Berthold Rays. What you don't detect any? Really, well set up a camp and find out! Avoid the plant life while your at it too!"

No direct episode remakes, but what about doing 3-4 twenty minute vigenettes ala "Pulp Fiction?" Have one with Harry Mudd, one with Romulans, one with Klingons, what have you.

I'm not interested in any direct remakes. If we had to endure such a film, "The Doomsday Machine" has already been suggested, and it wouldn't be a bad choice. But hopefully we'll see something new.

The Way to Eden. No, really. With Ken Russell directing - if he's still alive and available...

Failing him, get Baz Luhrman or Tim Burton to direct. Actually, thinking about it, hire the latter; I'd love to hear a Danny Elfman ST/dark hippy score...

While I realize it probably wouldn't make sense to switch to a(nother) parallel universe in the sequel, I gotta echo the "Mirror, Mirror" love. Evil ZQ Spock would be lots of fun.

Honestly, as much as I love TOS, none.

They can tell stories that occur between TOS stardates while giving them homage with mentions or, go completely off the beaten track with all new directions. Either is fine with me but if they start writing slightly twisted OS stories, (like Janice Lester taking over someone else) I'll probably become a basher.

^ Actually, I wouldn't mind a remake of "Eden" if it were closer to the original screenplay. Also, perhaps they can reimagine the space hippies to be less hippy and more creepy cult (ala scientology, solar temple, heaven's gate, etc).
