It was a nice conceit for a couple of fan films to get the original actors back one last time, but that sounds like a horrible idea for a professional film with a wide theatrical release.

If you're looking for them to remake episodes why not simply start at Where No Man Has Gone Before and continue on from there? ( <-- Note, sarcasm )

New universe. Do something new with it. It's obvious the characters are already quite different in many ways. Why should things turn out even remotely the same? Or is the universe still trying to heal itself, per Orci & Kurtzman? Will the Nuuniverse not be satisfied until we're back where we started?

Since anyone can go to the barrier, we should eventually end up with ESPER MUTANT GALAXY WARS: super-powered mutants of various races duking it out spectacularly, while reducing the rest of known space to charred piles of ash! In the end there can be only one! One...jealous...God! MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!
