Chris Pine appreciation thread

Thank you, M'! I see from the wiki article that it was still playing here in Chicagoland just a year ago.

Chris's sojourn in Ireland might come in handy in this.

That's one long finger. . .:guffaw:

The best thing about Chris Pine is that he somehow did the impossible in Star Trek XI -- he proved himself to be more than a worthy successor to William Shatner in the role of James T. Kirk.

I didn't think that anyone could pull it off successfully, but Pine did. I'm really looking forward to his continued development of the James Kirk character.

Hey, scottydog. :-) Nice to see you here.

I've been watching our TOS bluray sets as I check all of the episodes to make sure they're ok, and I am struck every day by how the casting people just completely ROCKED the Kirk role -- twice. Both men are amazing. I'm just a Kirk lover.

I know, I've been gone from this thread for too long... But today, as I was in Wal-Mart buying a set of new sheets I decided to take the long way back to the registers and I passed through the Electronics department. While I was there I made an impulse buy... I picked up their only copy of Carriers. :p I haven't watched it yet but it made me decide to pop in here for a visit. :D

And it's good to be seen! Thanks, Jeri.

I agree that Shatner and Pine both nailed the role. I'm not sure what was harder -- Shatner establishing the character so well, or Pine being able to capture all the essential elements so well while also modernizing the character.

When I think about all the actors who have played James Bond 007, some have gotten it, and some haven't. I'm so glad Pine completely "got it".

The casting for the movie was golden; almost unbelievable. We were so lucky.

Tom, some Chris karma or Carma must have drawn you into the store. I have that DVD, but I haven't watched it either. I made an little album of a few screen caps from online versions of the beginning before the DVD came out.

Watching Carriers now. Star Trek would be the first ad.

Jeri, I'll let you know how it is. :)

*watches movie*

It was a decent movie. Simple but good. Not the ending I'd expect from an end-of-the-world thriller movie. Also, the intro and conclusion of the movie put a really nice cap around it. Chris Pine's character had my name. :p His character was a little bit if a douche. He did a good job though. I recommend at least watching it. Lol.

Story: 7 out of 10
--It was simple, but good. No real twists but it keeps your interest.

Predictability: 6 out of 10
--I could see where things were headed every so often but not enough to tell the whole story before seeing it.

Acting: 8 out of 10
--Good actors, they pulled you in and made you feel for them.

Production Work: 8 out of 10
--The effects looked pretty realistic, no CGI (thank god, direct-to-DVD movie budgets are usually pretty low :p), and the camera work was pretty good.

Overall: 29 out of 40
--Not bad for a direct-to-DVD movie. Like I said, it was simple, but good. It's one of those movies where I recommend seeing it at least once but don't push for necessarily buying it. (I'm talking about renting... :shifty:)

Chris Pine:

Shirtless Count: 1
Pantless Count: 1
Adorable Smile Count: Lost count the minute he brought out the first one. :adore: It was often enough. :p

One word of caution, I'm known to be easily satisfied, so my review is probably on the more positive side. :D

 I'm not a tough room either. The count topic is especially useful!

The movie channels will probably pick it up now and then, like HBO did Michael Dorn's "Gristle" a few years ago.

OMG. So I just turned on the second episode of the last season of Six Feet Under, and CHRIS PINE guest stars in the episode. He plays the young version of one of the main character's dead friends. :D

I'm gonna have to get some screenshots to put up. :D

Seriously, EVERYONE plays SOMEONE on Six Feet Under at SOME point, it seems... A couple Trek connections too, Robert Pine was in Voyager and Enterprise along with Six Feet Under, the helmsman of the Defiant from First Contact (played by Adam Scott) was in a few episodes of Six Feet Under in season 2, and John Billingsly (Dr. Phlox from ENT) was in an episode as well.

Short scene, and he's only in the one, but here he is. :p

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!

Spoiler contains a movie capture image. . .
Well, Chris has a veeery nice singing voice. I would have thought him more of a tenor but the bass sound is nice.
Can't say all the acting is up to par, but overall a nice movie.

Can't wait to get the CD.
