It looks like something the Timelords would build, that's for sure

Thanks Brent! I have done my research well then.. :techman:

There is an extensive list of TV episode related content listed here in the Tardis Wikia Page, of which i used while doing my research to watch those specific Episdoes..

From the Tardis Wikia Page:

The TARDIS interior has a vast number of rooms and corridors. The exact dimensions of the interior have not been specified, but apart from living quarters, the interior includes an art gallery (which is actually an ancillary power station), a greenhouse, library, a bathroom with a swimming pool (which was jettisoned by the Seventh Doctor in Paradise Towers after it sprang a leak), a medical bay, several brick-walled storage areas (all seen in The Invasion of Time, 1978), and a secondary control room (with ornate wood panels, and was used for a time by the Fourth Doctor).[4] Portions of the TARDIS can also be isolated or reconfigured; the Doctor was able to jettison 25% of the TARDIS's structure in Castrovalva to provide additional "thrust".

Despite a widespread assumption that the interior of the TARDIS is infinite, there are indications that it is not. In Full Circle (1980), Romana stated that the weight of the TARDIS in Alzarius' Earth-like gravity was 5 × 106 kilograms (5000 tonnes). This presumably refers to its internal weight, as the external part of the TARDIS is light enough for it to be lifted or otherwise moved with relative ease (although most real police boxes were concrete and hence quite difficult to move): several men lift it up in Marco Polo, a group of small blue maintenance workers on Platform One push it along the ground in "The End of the World", and a quartet of Weeping Angels are able to rock it back and forth in "Blink", to name a few. If the exterior of the TARDIS is moved, the movement is transmitted to its interior.
This relates to the fact that the Tardis outside (Police Box) is Relative to the Interior Space ship..they are one and the same..

distinctive architectural feature of the TARDIS interior is the "roundel".[24] In the context of the TARDIS, a roundel is a circular decoration that adorns the walls of the rooms and corridors of the TARDIS, including the console room. Some roundels conceal TARDIS circuitry and devices, as seen in the serials The Wheel in Space (1968), Logopolis, Castrovalva (1981), Arc of Infinity (1983), Terminus (1983), and Attack of the Cybermen (1985). The design of the roundels has varied throughout the show's history, from a basic circular cut-out with black background to a photographic image printed on wall board, to translucent illuminated discs in later serials. In the secondary console room, most of the roundels were executed in recessed wood panelling, with a few decorative ones in what appeared to be stained glass. In the TARDIS design from 2005-January 2010, the roundels are built into hexagonal recesses in the walls. It is was announced by Steven Moffat that this design will change when the series returns later in 2010.

Other rooms seen include living quarters for many of the Doctor's companions, although the Doctor's own bedroom has never been mentioned or seen. The TARDIS also had a "Zero Room"—a chamber that was shielded from the rest of the universe and provided a restful environment for the Fifth Doctor to recover from his regeneration in Castrovalvawhich was among the 25% jettisoned. However, the Seventh Doctor spin-off novel Deceit indicated that the Doctor rebuilt the Zero Room shortly before the events of that novel. In some of the First Doctor serials, a nearby room contains a machine that dispenses food or nutrition bars to the Doctor and his companions. This machine disappears after the first few serials, although mention is occasionally made of the TARDIS kitchen.

Although the interior corridors were not seen in the 2005 series, the fact that they still exist was established in "The Unquiet Dead", when the Doctor gives Rose some very complicated directions to the TARDIS wardrobe. The wardrobe is mentioned several times in the original series and spin-off fiction, and seen in The Androids of Tara (1978), The Twin Dilemma (1984) and Time and the Rani (1987). The redesigned version, from which the Tenth Doctor chooses his new clothes, was seen in "The Christmas Invasion" (2005) as a large multi-levelled room with a helical staircase. Designer Ed Thomas has suggested that more rooms may be seen in coming episodes.[25] The Doctor also mentions in "The Shakespeare Code" that the TARDIS has an attic.

In The Eleventh Hour the Doctor mentions that the TARDIS has a library and a swimming pool.
From the Writer Peter Darvill-Evans is where the coined description of the Tardis is based off of (and many other writers have also based their descriptions on), and which is my central core theory of what the tardis is.. you can find his work in the Novel Deceit. Also there are other materials related to this Novel, with doctor who magazine, which also includes Abslom Daak, and the Planet Arcadia.

"Massive towers give access to the "outside" of the interior of a TARDIS. When viewed from the top of these towers the interior looks like thousands of massive white domes connected by twisting white corridors. Each Dome represents one room. The domes rest on a flat plane with Corinthian columns (approximately a hundred meters in diameter) supporting a ceiling that is lost in gray and black clouds."

By extrapolating the material from the Novels, the various websites, and combining it with the specific episodes listed above, you can get an idea of what the Tardis is and how it works..

also I should mention the 1996 Movie with the 8TH Doctor also has an extensive scene which shows the interior of the Tardis and relates to the design I have produced. Namely the Artificial Eye of Harmony that rests in the Tardis Time Sceptre engine section..

Tardis: Type 40, Mark-I
File Series: 001

The Tardis is a Unique and Powerful Ship. The Reason the tardis Exists is because it is a ship that can sustain itself in an artificially created reality.

Rassilon, Omega, and a figure only known as the "Other" created the Eye of Harmony, the immense power source that allows Time Travel to Be Possible. The Singularity at the center of an Artificially created Black Hole was captured and secured on Gallifrey. Using this Singularity the Time Lord Technicians used the Singularity to Punch a hole in Time and Space, to create a mini artificial universe, in which they grew a Tardis base structure..

This Structure was then Modified using technology to create a ship, with engines, and a central Control console. A Time Lord whose Genetic structure was also tied to the ship and the generated energy known as "Artron" was given the ability to regenerate 13 times..

Artron Energy is the combined Hyper Reaction of Tachyons, Graviton, and Chroniton Particles smashed at a super speed, and the resulting power produced is the Artron energy.. Matter, Time, and Gravitational forces coming together. the Tardis is able to live off these particles and produce its own life energy..

The Dynamorphic generators at the Base of the Ship bends space. The Tardis isn't teleported as it is simply dematerialized and Rematerialized.. Let me explain how that works and why it is different, this is due to the fact that the Time Scepter which is open to the time vortex and regular space, and Dynamorphic generators is bending Space and OUR reality around the artificial Reality in which the Tardis exists.. so as this happens it looks as if the ship is being teleported, when the reality is, that the space warping around it, dematerializes and re-materializes it in a new area.. (As the Space Warps around the Tardis BOX, if you were watching it, you would see it disappear as the engines roar, then when it stops its bending of space it comes into being as the engines wind down. Essentially the Tardis moves into subspace and then back to Normal space thus dematerializing from normal space into a subspace, and re-materializing from subspace into normal space, and if you do this and allow specific objects in, you can re-materialize the Tardis around an object thereby allowing it or the object into the ship itself and Vice Verse. )

Since the Exteriro of the Tardis in our Normal Space is an Energy field that is turned into matter, much the same way that in Star Trek they use the Transporters to convert matter to energy and back, the Tardis is just able to use the matter energy construct of its Chameleon Circuits to form an object that matches it's surroundings or the Time Lord's Preference. In the case of the Doctor's Tardis, the Circuit is busted, resulting in a permanent matter construct in the from of a 1950's, Blue, Police call box.

The Time Scepter can also make the Tardis fly in conventional space, as seen in the episode "the Run Away Bride" By bending space around the reality at a constant.. and slower pace, this takes a lot of energy and control by the operator to maintain, whereas just traveling vast distances does as well, but in a different manner, which may seem easier to the Tardis operator since the movement doesn't have to be as precise..as to fly the tardis like a hovering jet or car.

since the Tardis Interior is existent in its own Reality it can access parts of space and time through the hole that is kept open by the artificial singularity on board the Tardis. The Artificial Singularity is charged by the Original Eye of Harmony on Gallifrey.

As the Tardis Spins it creates its own gravity and as it draws energy from the vortex, it feeds those particles into the ship via particle collectors on the ships edge. The energy by product is Artron, the particles that are spent are expelled through the pillars of Destiny and then they create a cloud and that cloud flows downward to the base and is then re-energized by the Vortex and sent upward to the particle collectors, an the cycle is repeated over and over again..

THE TARDIS IS RELATIVE TO THE OUTER DOOR AS THE DOOR IS RELATIVE TO THE TARDIS WITHIN. THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME.. what happens to the exterior of the Tardis affects the inner Mini Artificial universe and vice verse.. this is also how the mini universe can exist within a small blue box. The ship, the reality, the particles are the same as the Police Box.

Tardis: Type 40, Mark-I
File Series: 002

Here we see the Tardis from the Bottom of the ship and from a different side angle. The Side angle shows the Dimensional Transmitter, and the communications, sensory antenna.

The Bottom of the Tardis is an important component in how the ship works.

As the Energy is drawn from around the Tardis, and fed into the main reaction chamber, just above the Time Sceptre, it is then collided and turned into Artron Energy, the life's blood of the Tardis itself, as well as the Energy used by the Doctor to Regenerate his body. This is why the Doctor must be inside the Tardis as he regenerates, because the Time Lord DNA structure is modified to accept that energy and react by regenerating their form into a new body.

Below the Tardis are several sections that affect the Time Space travel of the Ship.. Below is an explanation of each Component:

Dynamorphic Generators:
The Dynamoprhic Generators act like Warp engines in Star Trek.. they Bend "Normal" Space around the Tardis and Transport the Outer Box to any point in the known universe, as well as time. Time Travel is a cohesion of the Dynamorphic Generators working in concert with the Cloister Room and the Artificial Eye of Harmony to move the ship into the Time Vortex and move time and space around the Ship. These Generators can make the Tardis Fly in a precise manner, and are used to stabilize the Larger Ship within it's own reality.

Dimensional Transmitter:
The Dimensional Transmitter is used to beam information and data or signals through the Time Vortex and resonates at a level faster then light in a subspace frequency.

Communications, and Sensory Antenna:
This dish device is used to receive psychic thoughts, psychic distress calls, intergalactic and computer distress signals, and normal time space telephone cellular signals. (most links that are used in that frequency are consistently maintained by the antenna unless cut off by a removal from space and time)

Cloister Room:
The Cloister Room is a section of the Ship which houses the Artificial Eye of Harmony. This object is an artificial Singularity with a sense of consciousness tied to the Tardis itself. the Artificial Eye of Harmony is charged like a battery when a Tardis is First Born, and is the principle object that allows the Artificial Reality to remain open to "Normal Space."

The Original Eye of Harmony on Gallifrey is used to punch the hole in space and Time to create the artificial universe through which the Tardis is then grown. Once Grown that Tardis then needs it's own Eye of Harmony to remain connected to this reality and provide a principle power source for the Tardis. Hence the Name "eye of Harmony" the harmony of two Universes kept in constant view of each other. The Artificial Eye of Harmony's Raw Graviton and Tachyon Power is then focused into the Time Sceptre and used to keep the dimensional gateway open and allows the Tardis to extract Graviton, Chronitron, and Tachyon Particles from the Time Vortex rift. Those particles when bombarded in the main reaction Chamber then become Artron Energy.

Time Sceptre:
This is the main device that is used to keep the Time Vortex, and relative Space open to the Tardis. This is also the Link that allows the Tardis Main Dimensional Causeway (a Doorway to Real Space) open and active. The Time Sceptre focuses the energies of the Artificial Eye of Harmony into it's shaft, which then focuses itself on a temporal point in "Real Space" and maintains an active opening always replenishing itself and the cloudy particles that are then used to sustain it's own reality bubble.

Tardis: Type 80, Mark-I
File Series: 003

The Time Lord Engineers Built several Tardis class ships and Improved upon their design. Those that were Older and Antiquated were subject to decommission and placed in secure Holding deep beneath the Panopticon of the Time Lord Citadel on Gallifrey. This Holding area rests near to the resting place of the Eye of Harmony, the central power source responsible for the Tardis technology.

The Type 80 Tardis was a significant improvement over the Original Widely used type 40 and 60. The Type 80 Tardis is the most widely used Tardis By the Time Lords until the Time War, where the Sentient Type 120 (commonly referred to as the War Tardis) was used. The Type 80 had several Features that were improved. The most notable were the Massive Auxiliary Power Engines, and the Time Sceptre. The New Engines Provided a Tremendous boost of energy when encountering Gravitational or Time Waves and gave the Tardis increased Speed when bending Space around itself via the Dynamorphic Generators.

Another significant Improvement were the Observation Towers which were Sturdy and Telescopic for a better view of the Ship itself. It also had the ability to open up via giant shielded doors, and expose 80% of the entire viewing platform to the exterior of the Tardis as it rests in its own Reality/Dimension.

The Pillars of Destiny were also Re-Designed by the Time Lord Engineers to maximize Particle placement and output, and provided a more stable bubble of reality from which the Tardis could exist. Since the Artificial Reality in which the Tardis rests is not a true Universe unto itself, meaning no planets, dark matter and dark energy, it was always referred to as a Dimension because of its modular form. Since it could not exist without a Tardis replenishing it's particle clouds to form that bubble in the first place, it was not considered a "true" Reality.

Upon shut down of a tardis Main power, the Ship can still maintain it's own bubble via the Artificial Eye of Harmony in its Cloister room, and Gravitational pull on the opening to the Time Vortex, and "Normal" Sub-Space. Yet its power to convert Particles into Artron Energy is diminished this is because it takes tremendous energy provided by the Auxiliary engines to run the Main reactor core, and distribute that energy as well as move and bend space..any energy produced while the Tardis main power is off, is diverted to the stabilization of the ship via the dynamorphic generators, the particle bubble production, emergency life support, and dimensional gateway stability.

The Particle collectors that line the outside of the center of the ship were modified to allow for better separation of specific particles which then could be more efficiently sent to the Core Chamber and collided and excited into the Artron Energy needed to keep the Tardis Alive and Functional.

The Antenna that produces the Gateway for the Tardis to emerge in Normal Space was made more advanced in it's design and strengthened to allow easier stability when dematerializing and rematerializing from Matter to Energy and back, or moving in subspace/Time Vortex via the Dynamoprhic generators.

Another Improvement was the control of Room Placement and pattern. as the Time Lord Engineers got more advanced with their growing of Tardis(s) they were able to control the placement and the symmetrical growth of the Rooms as they formed from the Tessellated Membranes.

A special Shielding apparatus was also added Directly to the New Time Sceptre and gave much greater protection to the Tardis as it traverses space and time.

More designs and Schematics will come soon..

Please disregard the earlier work, as with anything, you tend to refine your work as you learn more..

I believe these will be the final schematics for those who are interested..

up next bottom of the Type 80 tardis.. and type 100 (Compassion) the first Fully Sentient Tardis! Mother of all War Tardis(s). Lastly I will be including the Type 120 Full War Tardis.. for the Time war, and then the Dalek Time ship from the Classic Hartnell series Known as the "Chase"

I will also be doing more indepth Tardis schematics showcasing how the ship works within it's own dimension and how it interacts with our reality..

Not sure if I should do the Type 60 tardis or not.. if there is significant Fan demand I may also do that version..but for now, I skipped and went to the Type 80.

please add a comment and show me some love on Deviantart. thanks! :)

Why thanks much! It took a long time to compile the data to analyze and come up with something that fits the descriptions and the premise..

I think it is time to show off a few other things now.. sorry for the delay guys..

Okay So here is the final, final, final, revised, final designs.. LOL:bolian:

Type 40:

Type: 80

Type: 91

Personally the Type 91, War Tardis is my Favorite..

the bottom side and the thinking war tardises are still in the works, and I will update this thread as soon as those are done as well.. if you want to see the thumbs larger just click on them..

enjoy..

I got some cool cutaways in the works for the Doctor's class tardis...you guys should love that as well.. hopefully..:techman:

Later dudes!

In discussing the Tardis Data Files with some of my friends, I was asked to try a more "Classic" approach to the Tardis, as more of a technical and machine representation, as apposed to the more organic look that I had previously done. In this version it is more akin to the idea and look of that given in the Hartnell (1st Doctor) era.

I have labeled the design and included Gallifreyan symbols for added effect.
everything that was discussed in previous Tardis Designs is accounted for, and it still works on the same principle.

In this design I tried to use more of the aesthetics of the Tardis as seen up through to the 1980's

Anyways, this should be satisfactory for those who prefer a more "Mechanical Look" when it comes to the Tardis within it's own interior Dimensional Pocket.

each Dome is massive and houses Hundreds of Rooms and Levels, which then connect to other Domes, which are detachable and can be jettisoned into the void beyond the pillars.. if you looked at the ship from the top view, it would be in the shape of a Hexagon. As the Tardis Increases in size it expands beyond the great pillars of destiny and forms another layer of domes, and then finalizing itself with another round of Pillars on the outer perimeter.

This gives the ship the look of an ancient Greek or Roman style rotunda with the columns leading into the domes and more columns, until you reach the center..

Just click on the thumbnail below to see the image in a larger size..

So, which do you prefer?

Personally, I always liked the plain clean and uncluttered "Hartnell and Troughton" Tardis, with the extra living spaces, food dispensers, and such.. it just looked more alien then the raggedy and "modern" style of Tardis.. Though I do like the Tennant and Smith Tardis..

How the heck have I managed to miss this thread in the midst of waiting until my copy of the Doctor Who Tardis Handbook arrives in a couple of weeks? Damn all of those are excellent...I'll have to examine them further.

Pretty 'effin incredible, man. Now THAT is research! I am more than impressed at the clarity, thought, perception, conceptualization, and heart put into all of this. It's amazing you have been able to unify the entire strata of media concerning Gallifrey's key technical achievement into a cohesive, plausible, and perfectly realized technical guide. LOVE the specs. I love how you haven't glossed it up or made it prettier than the facts you are drawing from. No real embellishment is a fresh approach from such an obviously dedicated fan (more dedicated than me, anyway ;) ).

Personally, I'm a fan of your Type 91 design. However, I'm waiting to see the Time War's Sentient Type 120. And you theorize that Compassion (that was the sentient TARDIS from the McGann novels, right?) is the mother of all War Tardii?

Look forward to more man! :techman:

How does this design fit with "Voyage of the damned" and "The Mind Robber"?

In Voyage of the Damned the Starship Titanic struck the TARDIS and the bow penetrated into the console room.

In The Mind Robber; the exterior was torn apart and we were left with Zoe and Jammie clinging to the console.

Personally, I've always preferred the TARDIS actually being bigger inside than outside. The exterior we see being a sort of hologram or morphing exterior of an actual device. I imagine that inside the TARDIS the higher spacial dimentions are "uncurrled" (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/dimensions.html) so they become usable.

We can rationalize The Mind Robber by saying it was in the Land of Fiction, so anything that happened could be taken with a grain of salt.

Thanks, I appreciate that you like what I have done and notice how I haven't added very much into the designs.. I just did a conceptualization based on the descriptions and such that I was presented in various resources..novels and so on.. Yes the 91 will also include the bottom and other side view, coming soon, and I would love to do a huge version of the default spire for it as well.. should be nice to do..

the time war sentient ships will be produced here soon, once compassion is completed..

I am still researching that ship, to make sure I get it right.. apparently the sentient tardis can become human in it's form, and yet convert to a ship also.. I have a docking bay image I am working on for the end of time series, which will show how the War Tardis Spires all lined up and ready for fighting..that will be pretty cool.

I imagine that inside the TARDIS the higher spacial dimentions are "uncurrled" (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/dimensions.html) so they become usable.

this is not the basis for what I have worked out. Spacial dimensions is what is used to synchronize the interior ship with the outside universe, but the pocket of reality in which the Tardis rests is a artificial reality all on its own..string theory helps to define how the ship can exist and control it's environment.. but consider that the tardis is linked to reality, and special dimensions have to exist in reality..even in string theory.. the 4th dimension is part of this reality..in the mind robber, the doctor says that if they use the emergency switch they end up outside of reality and the tardis cuts itself off from that and ends up no where..this fits the theory of mine that the Tardis exists in its own artificial reality but they call it a dimension because its not a true reality, it is a separate reality Dimensionally aligned with ours, which explains how the ship has to use stabilizers to maintain a spacial relevance to our Universe dimensions....its artificially produced using the eye of harmony which is a singularity..which opens the pocket to another "Reality" but outside of that reality is literally nothing.. no existence..the tardis must be anchored to this reality..now the ship itself is the same as the blue police box.. and vice verse. as to how the titanic can crash into the control console of the tardis and not the rest of the ship is easily explained.. the tardis shields were down, the point closest to this reality is the control room, since the outer shell is maintained in normal space.. the front end of the titanic hit the Tardis, which penetrated the outside of the police box into the interior of the tardis.. which translated to the control room, because the doorway is the control room.. the point in which the time sceptre is open to is a point in subspace, and the time vortex, which is also linked to the open dimensional causeway that the doctor and companions slip in and out of the ship through.. they are also sorta one and the same if you look at the ship from outside..(that is the relative dimension) the inside is the out, and the hole in time and space and access to the vortex is the same..

here is an example:
As the dynamorphic generators bend space around the tardis (similar to warp engines but more efficient because the ship is in another reality doing it through direct spacial manipulation)the outside of the ship moves through space..when in high velocity travel the outside of the ship is dematerialized into a subspace format.. and then rematerialized into normal space once landed.. thus it is always anchored ot this reality and even in subspace it can feel universal effects..when the dynamorphic generators access the time vortex, the chroniton particles are access via their atomic age and thus the ship is moved into a wormhole of sorts which using the age of the particles, gives the time which the ship is traveling to..Graviton particles an the tachyon field allow this travel.. those particles are emitted from the pillars of destiny which draw from the universe through the hole where the vortex is accessed by the time sceptre..

Basically the tardis police box is the front of a sock puppet which is covered behind by a black curtain (universal separation).. and manipulated by you the pupeteer.. which is much larger then the sock puppet..and can easily manipulate it because you are not on the scale of the puppet and thus can move it what ever way you like.. the puppet's universe is immaterial to you as the puppeteer because you exist outside of it's universe..

the Eye of Harmony is aptly named..

it is a singularity, in which two universes are held in constant view of each other..

except when a Tardis Universe is constructed, there is no big bang.. the expansion of that mini reality is forced by use of dark matter and particle field generation..and a climate that can be used to promote growth by nano-carbon tube technology..(this gives the Tardis ships a material that is grown and as hard if not harder then diamonds, since Diamonds themselves are compressed carbon..) an carbon nanotechnology is easily manipulated into structures..

the hexagonal tessellated membrane is the core of the ship, and is also the domes structure material..there is also a material that can be formed around the nano carbon which looks like coral..

Carbon Technology: Grown ships, not built..
http://www.3dchem.com/moremolecules.asp?ID=104&othername=carbon nanotubes

this is a great one:
http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/5-8/features/super_spaceships_feature.html

In the mind robber, the Tardis didn't truly break up, it was still in the limbo area.. they never really made it back inside, the mind robber tricked them..so the tardis console they were hanging on to, was pure fantasy..

I agree... :D

Those are good enough justifications I suppose.

Don't get me wrong, your idea is as good as any other, I was just pointing out my preference.

Are you planning on incorporating the coral? As I recall Captain Jack is/was trying to grow a TARDIS from a piece of coral on his desk. It must be a (or the) principal component if he expects to have a functional TARDIS from it.

the only problem I have is how do you justify with the string theory and just dimensions.. as how the Tardis can jettison a section of itself??

also as for the coral.. It is definitely a part of the ship and is in between the hexagonal carbon nano outer shell and the interior walls..

here is a diagram given by another member of a different forum where we were discussing this same topic..

Another interesting property or two of them there carbon nanotubes is that substances such as crystalline proteins and water tend to self-organise in a helical shape around them, sort of like this:

nl-2008-032334_0006.gif

Dunno if that's the sort of thing that might spontaneously generate, say, some kind of a helical staircase?

invasion-tennant-tardis-spiral.jpg

Or I might have entirely misunderstood your whole mission. Either way, love the pictures!!

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.

as how the Tardis can jettison a section of itself??
Honestly I've never put much thought into it. :)
But it seems to me it could get jettisoned into one of the uncurled spacial dimensions. which could either collapse on it and destroy it, or the jettisoned section, now free to float around 4 dimensional space could easily get caught by gravity and shift away from the TT Capsule.

Actually where would you jettison it to in the pocket universe?
It would still be in the pocket universe, isn't that universe sustained by the TARDIS? So wouldn't the mass of the jettisoned section sill effect the TARDIS?

I do like the design; I just question the pocket universe theory.

as how the Tardis can jettison a section of itself??

The Section Jettisoned would shift outward towards the perimeter of the pocket universe, and would eventually move beyond the limits and fade into nothing.. because beyond the outer limits of that Artifical Sustained reality, is nothing, Literally Nothing..or as the doctor says it.. The "Void"

Type 91 War Tardis Default Mode:

Design elements:

The War Spire as I call it, has some rather unique features.. One being the Temporal Anchor device. This is the large Triangular Shaped section beneath the main level Step, which begins the staircase up to the doorway into the ship itself. This device was added to the Type 91 to combat Dalek Temporal Prison devices, allowing a tardis to remain in its intended spot unmovable by any means.

A Type 91 War Tardis usually hovers unless landed.
The Temporal Anchor holds the ship in a subspace field and is between a materialization and re-materialization wave length. when the tardis is seen landing, the underside is then phased into what ever is at ground level leaving only the bottom main level step accessible. the image shown demonstrates what a human sized person would see if the tardis is landed.. but upon the tardis floating in it's normal hover-mode, the bottom temporal anchor is visible, and glows with a golden light as it travels, similar to the light on top of the police box of the doctor's tardis.

The War Tardis comes equipped with 3 sets of entrances, the front entrance being linked directly to the main console room, and the side entrances being reserved for Time Lord Drones, and Raston Warrior Robot Armies (Generation 5 ). While in a Battle these war Tardises came armed to the teeth, complete with a ship to ship invasion force, and a regiment of Chancellery Marines ( a separate division of the Chancellery Guard). more on that later..

The Top of the spire just below the twisted spiral is the symbol of the Time lords Proudly emblazoned for all to see.
The Door way into the ship splits into 3 sections and rises up, and splits diagonally toward the bottom. These Tardis only recognize Time Lord DNA, and will only open for a time lord.

Information Specs:

Less then 20 years before the beginning of the last Time War the Type 91 War Tardises, were created. Their default shapes are deliberately large and eye-catching - usually appearing to be gold space ships - massive spires of gold, with corkscrews at the tip and covered in spikes. The Type 91 would continue to be produced for at least the first 50 years of the Time War. They are equipped with a variety of weapons which can be launched from their Time Warp Silos including: Weaponry

* Earthshock Bombs consist of fission-fusion devices that create a tiny hole in the Space-Time Continuum. This creates massive amounts of radiation and intertemporal shock waves. These weapons were occasionally mounted on Type 40 TARDISes around the time of the Doctor's birth and were capable of reducing large asteroids to rubble.

* Time Torpedoes are also launched from the Time Warp Silos of a War TARDIS. It takes a little over 30 seconds for them to reach their target. When they detonate, their target is frozen in a microsecond of space-time for several centuries. These weapons are capable of breaching even a TARDIS's defenses.

* A Tuckson-Jacker Energy Weapon is based on the technology used in certain weather control systems. When set to broad spectrum, the Tuckson-Jacker Energy can tractor a TARDIS out of the Vortex and into real space. When set to pulse-mode, the Tuckson-Jacker Energy bursts are capable of penetrating a TARDIS Force Field. A successful hit renders both the TARDIS and the Time Lord operator incapacitated. Any Lesser humanoid species that was aboard would be killed.

* An Artron Cannon, which is capable (at point blank range) of killing a Chronovore or an Eternal. A more general form of this weapon includes the ability to release an omni-directional psychic blast of Artron Energy by opening a direct wormhole to the Prime Eye of Harmony on Gallifrey. The resulting burst of Artron Energy will kill any Timeships that are within the blast radius. The blast will also destroy any Chronovores in the area.

* A powerful Vortex Lance rounds out the offenses of a Type 91 War TARDIS.

As a Type 91 War Tardis fights you generally see the ships in a fleet formation spinning clockwise at an angled pitch and weaponry just appearing as if from no where materializing just in front of the front of the War spire Tardis, wreaking havoc on unsuspecting enemies.

These designs actually look a lot like the flying Gallifreyan spaceship we see in the beginning of The Mysterious Planet, Trial of a Timelord Part 1, imagine that Gallifreyan spaceship inside a box, that is what I have always imagined the TARDIS to look like on the inside. Although the one inside the TARDIS is on a much grander scale. The tall columns/towers are certainly a staple of Timelord spaceships.

Yeah I remember that ship, it was pretty cool..but it is based on gallifreyan conventional space ship design, and is nothing on par with the Tardis, however, with the research I have done over the last year, what I have developed certainly fits what we have seen thus far, and that space ship hearkens back to the type 40 and type 80 tardis designs I did below.. which I did use that ship design as a reference in some aspects of what you see below..

Type 40:

Type: 80

Type: 91
