There are always things that can be done to make it better. However, most of your suggestions would be unnecessary if you modified your own behavior first.
You've acknowledged previously that people purposely wind him up, and that they know how to push his buttons, yet you're saying Hermiod is the one who should modify his behaviour? Give me a fucking break.
Regardless of what you think about Hermiod's conduct on the board, if he's not breaking the rules, or going after other posters himself, then what's the problem?
Maybe you should be going after the people who actively antagonise other posters, instead of pointing out the people who are in the line of fire, and telling them they're at fault.
People wind him up because he makes it so easy. All you have to do is make a crack about Arsenal and he blows a gasket. What I said is true: it takes two to tango. If he blew off posts where people tried to get his goat,
they'd stop doing it.
By all means, he should report posts that are against the rules. But just because someone says something rude or nasty to him, about him, or about something he likes, doesn't mean that action is warnable. The world does not fall at
Hermiod's feet, and his preferences do not dictate the standard of conduct here.
If you don't make yourself a target, you won't be one. Take responsibility for how you conduct yourself and accept that some people are going to straddle the line and try to get you to retaliate. When that happens,
you don't give in and snipe at them. Otherwise, you'll be the one with the infraction.
Going back to the Thor thread,
Hermiod painted a big ol' bullseye on his back by coming out with his racial preferences. He took a thread that should have been about an interesting subject--taking a diverse approach to casting the Thor movie--and turned it into a soapbox for his views.

Hermiod knows damn well what he's doing in threads like that. If he doesn't want people to ride his ass for his racist attitudes, maybe he shouldn't espouse them.
People can say what they want about
darkwing_duck1, but he always takes his lumps when it comes to expressing, shall we say, "unpopular" opinions. He doesn't go running to the mods crying about unfair treatment, and he gets a
lot worse flak than
Hermiod.
Put another way: if you are going to express opinions that most people consider offensive, be prepared to see some negative, even rude, reactions.
