NHL Discussion - 2009-2010 Season

I feel dirty for cheering for Detroit but they got it done. Sharks/Avs in the first round.

The Flyers/Rangers game felt so anticlimactic going into a shootout. Should have played it like a postseason game.
Yeah I'm glad Detroit won the game, that means Canucks don't have to face them in round one.

And I totally agree with the shootout vs. continuous OT sentiment.

Sid and Stammer take the Rocket. :techman:
Heh, so Ovie lost out in both scoring races.

Flyers just beat the Rangers in OT, so they're going into the playoffs and the Rangers are out. :p

Yeah, they squeeked in. We've had decent success against the Devils, but it'll take a lot to get our old form back.
Well the only reason I was rooting for the Flyers I because I absolutely loathe the Rangers. :p

I hope Detroit wins today but they don't look very good after one period. I do have to wonder if they think they have nothing to play for. I would think Positioning, especially in the west, would be important.

I was at the game, it felt like neither team was really putting it all out there, probably wanted to avoid injuries and such. Sucked to lose in OT though.

I'm glad the Canadiens made it in. Of course we're facing the Capitals so our run might not last long. Although we did play well against them this season so you never know.

So Canucks win game one 3-2 in first OT after a beautiful Luongo save.

I don't the Wing's origins come from my home town back in the 20's
but I'm hoping the Canucks go all the way.
I hope Montreal goes down quickly.

I hope the Sharks take care of the Av's in a frenzy.

Someone explain to me why the league even bothered to add a new headshot rule?

No penalty. No suspension. Unbelievable.

^ I checked some screen caps of that hit online and it looks like a fairly clean hit to me. Sutton hit him with his body, not his elbow or shoulder.

You line somebody up from 30 feet away and plow into their head at full speed, I don't care if you hit with your elbow or your earlobe. It should be a charging major at the very least.

At any rate, Sutton lost Ottawa the game, and possibly the series. The Penguins were content to sleep through the series as they did most of the season. They're awake now, and responded with over fifty hits. (They even knocked one poor Senator through the Zamboni gate at the end of the first period!)

^ Don't get me wrong, I do think it was a dirty hit. I just don't think it was an illegal hit. Hell, even Brooks Orpik said it was a clean hit.

In the past that wasn't an illegal hit, but it was my understanding they were trying to eliminate people from doing that. Odds are that he'll get fined for it, even though there was no penalty in the game.

You know, based on the first two games of the series, (And all the games of the playoffs so far) the Sharks are really going to have to earn it. That was a hard faught game last night, and I think I realized I can't count on Nabokov at all. Given his performance in playoff past and in the olympics, he's not a big game goalie. Hopefully he shapes up in the upcoming games, but I don't feel comfortable with him in net. With that said, putting in Griess would also be a mistake, since he doesn't have the experience like Nabokov does.

The best players on the Ice last night were Clowe, Pavelski, Nichol, Mitchell, and Manny Malholtra. Everyone else was either average or not very good, especially Marleau. I don't know what it is, but he's been awful in this series. He was average last night, but he fanned 4 shots and was a -1. He turned over the puck and just looked lazy out there. He better shape up too.

Some thoughts on the rest of the playoffs

-Like him or hate him, it is entertaining watching Sid play. That final goal where he was playing cat and mouse with Spezza was awesome, and that save he had on goal was fantastic. I'm starting to think he's a player you love to hate. You'd hate to play against him, but you got to respect the guys skill

-What happened to Chicago. 4-1 Preds? That's surprising.

-I'm loving all these playoffs. Every team that lost on Wednesday won last night. We're guaranteed at least 5 games in, what 4 of the series? I've got a feeling we're going to get quite a few Game 7's in these playoffs and that's awesome.

I'd go with Griess. You don't know how he'll fare (he did fine in the Olympics on a hopeless team). Nabby, you know how he'll fare. Leaving him in is playoff suicide.

That's my point. As far as the NHL's rules are concerned Richards' hit on Booth and Cooke's hit on Savard were also "clean" hits. The GMs' meeting was supposed to deal with headshots, but here we are again.

Coyotes now lead the series 2-1 against Detroit!

Absolutely nothing wrong with this.. :D

After putting 50 shots on net in 3 periods and coming up empty, San Jose finally got one through in the first minute of the OT. Too bad it was on Nabokov. :guffaw: Avs up 2-1 and can you imagine what's going through San Jose's collective hockey minds right now?

Probably this.

Ive got to give Boyle credit. He could have hid out, but he faced the reporters in the room afterward.
