I'm feeling old...

I feel old... and I'm 27

I remember seeing First Contact in the cinema, first run,and I refuse to believe it was 14 years ago!

I really don't want to discuss how I saw Generations in theaters and that was 16 years ago!

And now I just realized Toy Story is 15 years old... as is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

Meanwhile Batman: The Animated Series is 18 years old...

And for the sake of my sanity I definitely won't mention the age of Tiny Toons.

All of which I watched as an adult-and some of which I watched while partaking of recreational libations that I was of age to purchase.:shifty:

I was 34 when "Generations" came out--older THEN than most of those who now feel "old" about seeing it in the theater first -run.

I saw "The Motion Picture" first run in the theater the day it opened--TWICE.

I remember when LBJ was president and Viet Nam and "One small step for man" when it HAPPENED. I remember the VERY first time they EVER showed "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" in 1966 (I was 5 years old) and "Batman" (1966).

Sitting in front of the TV watching "The Wonderful World of Disney!" The grumpy old man selling the spot remover that was "the same STUFF they use on Nixon's plane". "Love America Style" and "Marcus Welby, MD". I remember when "One Adam 12" needed to "see the man" and when there was an "Emergency" that called up the guys at "Rampart--Station 51" (bet you they administered "D5-W with Ringers Lactate" and transported as soon as possible"). I remember how the instrumental theme version of "Greensleeves" for the "Lassie" TV show almost always made me cry (this was the color version and I always thought Lassie had gotten LOST and that's why Timmy wasn't around anymore). I remember seeing "Jungle Book" at the drive-in, getting a stuffed "King Louie" figure and then crying because I thought the Kaa-the-snake had eaten Pooh Bear because I didn't understand they were voiced by the same actor and I could not otherwise reconcile why Pooh's voice was coming from the snake's mouth.

I remember when Jethro was gonna be a "double-naught spy" and when Steed told Mrs. Peel "we're needed" and I wondered what had happened to Ricky when Lucy showed up in color and went to work for Mr. Mooney. I remember when they dared to "Sock it" to Nixon on "Laugh-In" which was "Veeeerrrrrry interessstink". I remember when Klink clenched his fist and sang out in frsutration, "HOOOOoooooogaAAAAAAN". Don Kirshner's ROCK CONCERT! SOOOoOOuuuuuuulll Train! Night Gallery! Hawaii 5-0. Longstreet. Room 222. The MOD SQUAD (IN COLOR!). Dino singing "Everybody Loves somebody, sometime . . . " I remember when Darrin grew a foot taller and not even Samantha or Endora noticed and Buffy and Jody came to stay with Uncle Bill.

I remember rioting in the streets when MLK was killed and when Paul left the band. I remember one night YEARS later when I got home from work late one Monday and found out some fool had shot and killed John (yeah, I cried like a baby). I know what you call a Star with a tail ("Lassie") and what you call a dog with Wings ("Linda McCartney"), I remember when Davy went to Marcia's prom. I remember the "Munich Massacre" and "School House Rock" and "In the News" and I watched "Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii" - LIVE!

I remember my mom crying when JFK was blown away.

I remember wondering if they would EVER find Patty Hearst.

I remember the when Coke was going to teach the whole world to sing but when they did, everyone chanted, "ALI! ALI!!

Yeah, I'm old, but "those WERE the days, my friend--we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance, forever and a day . . . "

I remember watching TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dawson's Creek on the good 'ole WB network during my freshmen year of college... back in '98!

In a similar vein, I started to feel father time creeping up on me when I realized that last September was the 10th anniversary of the series premieres of Angel & Roswell.

And the above is a perfect example. One of my friends was born the year Star Trek III came out, and I remember seeing it when it was new.....

....at a drive-in.

I was 14.

...That wasn't when he was conceived, was it?:shifty:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie (1990)

To some extent, that one doesn't make me feel old. That movie always felt like part of my distant youth, before time ever mattered. What always makes my jaw drop is when I watch the sequel and see that the Turtles have a glass with Bart Simpson on it. The idea that The Simpsons started when I was barely in elementary school and is still on the air totally floors me every time I think about it. (I can still remember the sound of a dozen asshole 2nd graders surrounding me and chanting "Bart! Bart! Bart!" In retrospect, I have no idea why this was supposed to traumatize me, but it did.)

I was at a convention this weekend, and a much younger attendee that me, asked me when I went to my first convention. It was 1976!

I'm shocked that Buffy season one was made in 1997. Shocked. Except for the hairstyles, you'd never know. It's still a great show today.
I'm so old I don't recognize the difference between hairstyles of 1997 and hairstyles of today.

Today they go for a very messy look. Or they make it all stand up in the middle of their heads in some sort of fauxhawk. Personally, I'd fire one of these little punks who shows up in my office like that.

That's because there is no difference. Everybody today is as unkempt and sloppy looking as they were in 1997. I miss the hairstyles of the 1980's. At least for women (I don't care what the hell men look like).

Some people call it "big hair" like that's a bad thing. I call it beautiful. I hope it makes a comeback.

Damn, now I'm feeling older.

I'm not gonna quote Zach(big post) but I'm just a bit younger than you. I still choke up when I see/think about that Coke commercial(the one on the hill) and I do remember the Lassie/Wings joke. MLK rioting is a distant memory-I just remember my mom locking the door and taking me into the basement(we lived in Chicago). Too young for some of that stuff-like watching the Bradys live-but I remember some of the others...

Hey mistral, and others, do you remember watching the moon landing? I sure do...

No, but what does it tell you about my parents that I was born nine months later??

On the same day Apollo 13 landed.

I remember it seemed like hours and hours after they landed waiting for Neil and Buzz to come out. I was over at my grandmother's house to watch the moon walk because she had a color TV. Turned out the images from the surface of the moon were in black and white anyhow. When the astronauts finally were out walking around, my grandmother announced (joking--but I didn't know it) that she'd seen a "creature" of some sort scrabbling around behind some of the rocks. I spent the majority of the rest of the time worrying about if Armstrong and Aldrin had brought a gun and trying to see the "creature" again.

I was at my aunt and uncle's place. They had a big(!) Zenith so we could all see the picture without sitting on top of the screen like my parents 15 inch or whatever it was. I had popsicles while I watched. My dad had a look on his face I rarely saw again-he really believed it was one small step of many...

That we know for a fact Neil Armstrong is not your father?

I remember watching ST:The Movie on a KLM 747 from Amsterdam to Montreal. I must have been about 9 and knew nothing about Trek, but I remember thinking "hey, that lady's bald!", which is why I remember it.

I remember being underaged and sneaking into the theatre to watch "Airplane!", which I now own on DVD. My younger son likes to remind me that it came out in 1980. Aaargh...

The strongest message that I'm aging happened last week, when I took my teenage daughter shopping and encountered neon leggings, gimp bracelets and big hair. Yep, I'm now old enough to have seen an old fashion trend be revived for a new generation. On the bright side, maybe now my kids will stop laughing at the poodle perm I sported in my class of '87 high school grad photo.

As I get older, I realize that time is passing by when I stop to think about mundane things...like these...

The movie JAWS came out 35 years ago!!!

Star Trek The Next Generation has been off the air twice as long as it was on the air...yikes...

I was born during the viet nam war!

I actually know who Tiny Tim was....

Star Trek III came out 26 years ago!!!...

You think your old...
I read the book Jaws before it was a movie
I remember watching Star Trek: The Animated Series
I remember Truman and Eisenhower's funeral
I met Tiny Tim (and he was a loon in person too)
