I feel old... and I'm 27
I remember seeing First Contact in the cinema, first run,and I refuse to believe it was 14 years ago!
I really don't want to discuss how I saw Generations in theaters and that was 16 years ago!
And now I just realized Toy Story is 15 years old... as is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
Meanwhile Batman: The Animated Series is 18 years old...
And for the sake of my sanity I definitely won't mention the age of Tiny Toons.
All of which I watched as an adult-and some of which I watched while partaking of recreational libations that I was of age to purchase.![]()
I was 34 when "Generations" came out--older THEN than most of those who now feel "old" about seeing it in the theater first -run.
I saw "The Motion Picture" first run in the theater the day it opened--TWICE.
I remember when LBJ was president and Viet Nam and "One small step for man" when it HAPPENED. I remember the VERY first time they EVER showed "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" in 1966 (I was 5 years old) and "Batman" (1966).
Sitting in front of the TV watching "The Wonderful World of Disney!" The grumpy old man selling the spot remover that was "the same STUFF they use on Nixon's plane". "Love America Style" and "Marcus Welby, MD". I remember when "One Adam 12" needed to "see the man" and when there was an "Emergency" that called up the guys at "Rampart--Station 51" (bet you they administered "D5-W with Ringers Lactate" and transported as soon as possible"). I remember how the instrumental theme version of "Greensleeves" for the "Lassie" TV show almost always made me cry (this was the color version and I always thought Lassie had gotten LOST and that's why Timmy wasn't around anymore). I remember seeing "Jungle Book" at the drive-in, getting a stuffed "King Louie" figure and then crying because I thought the Kaa-the-snake had eaten Pooh Bear because I didn't understand they were voiced by the same actor and I could not otherwise reconcile why Pooh's voice was coming from the snake's mouth.
I remember when Jethro was gonna be a "double-naught spy" and when Steed told Mrs. Peel "we're needed" and I wondered what had happened to Ricky when Lucy showed up in color and went to work for Mr. Mooney. I remember when they dared to "Sock it" to Nixon on "Laugh-In" which was "Veeeerrrrrry interessstink". I remember when Klink clenched his fist and sang out in frsutration, "HOOOOoooooogaAAAAAAN". Don Kirshner's ROCK CONCERT! SOOOoOOuuuuuuulll Train! Night Gallery! Hawaii 5-0. Longstreet. Room 222. The MOD SQUAD (IN COLOR!). Dino singing "Everybody Loves somebody, sometime . . . " I remember when Darrin grew a foot taller and not even Samantha or Endora noticed and Buffy and Jody came to stay with Uncle Bill.
I remember rioting in the streets when MLK was killed and when Paul left the band. I remember one night YEARS later when I got home from work late one Monday and found out some fool had shot and killed John (yeah, I cried like a baby). I know what you call a Star with a tail ("Lassie") and what you call a dog with Wings ("Linda McCartney"), I remember when Davy went to Marcia's prom. I remember the "Munich Massacre" and "School House Rock" and "In the News" and I watched "Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii" - LIVE!
I remember my mom crying when JFK was blown away.
I remember wondering if they would EVER find Patty Hearst.
I remember the when Coke was going to teach the whole world to sing but when they did, everyone chanted, "ALI! ALI!!
Yeah, I'm old, but "those WERE the days, my friend--we thought they'd never end, we'd sing and dance, forever and a day . . . "
