Let's keep in mind that present technology has excelled at removing pesky lens flare. It's only used now by those who either want it for artistic purposes, or who don't have the means to remove it. So really, not having it in Trek images is not a huge leap and having it certainly doesn't make it look more realistic. Just more artistic, which on its own merit, is fine...
Actually (JJ's extreme now-his-staple version aside), go out and look at a bright light at night (say a car head-light coming at you) and you will see light-spiking and bloom flare with the naked-eye. At least I do, eh. The human eye itself has a lens and very much works like a camera, or rather the other way around. While light-spiking is not normally/traditionally considered lens-flare per se, that is the option (LF) that is used in LW to achieve the spiking effect and bloom off the lights. As to TMP-era stuff, ST-One, I have yet to do any of that era, yet. deg

FYI for any that may be using my “…, wish me luck.” or “… a tall ship, …” shots as a desktop, both images have been updated, as I forgot to add the spots that I intended for the G7 registries, port, starboard, and aft. This oversight has been corrected and both shots have been updated. Too funny, Prof, but accurate. Indeed, your classic take on our ol' gal is a beauty in her own right, eh. THanks, guys! Sorry, kaisernathan1701, my work is always created as 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio. If you are trying to use it with a standard 4:9 square aspect ratio monitor, it is going to look odd, eh. Best you could do is set it to center position, with a black color background, assuming your are on a Windows machine. deg

Very cool, and different, perspective! I don't agree with the deck plating though, since most hangars and shop floors have a coating that's spread/painted on (don't know the specifics). It ends up looking a lot more uniform, save for the blemishes and scratches gained during use.

These days I opt more for what feels artistically pleasing and/or more visually interesting (without throwing all sense of reality out the window), in lieu of dotting all my i's and crossing all my t's for reality's sake. Barring nature, reality is too often too visually boring to look at, artistically speaking, IMO anywho. deg
