what is your favorite Voyager episode ? And why ?

Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy: "Tuvok I understand, you are a Vulcan man, and you have been without, for seven years... about." Need I say more? Painting 7 in the nude, grabbing the Captain's ass, breaking Torres' heart, the ECH, the Photonic Cannon! Aah, such a good episode.

Just finished watching that episode again. What a blast. Definitely a classic in my book.

Lenny of Lenny and Squiggy as an evil clown. *shudder*

OMG. :wtf: So that's why the clown seemed so familiar to me!

I always think of him first as the lead singer of Spinal Tap (below), but I definitely loved me some Laverne and Shirley growing up. ;)

No matter how much you hate something, there's likely someone out there who loves it. Personally, I can't comprehend how anyone could enjoy the taste of black licorice. :shifty:
And I can't figure out why anyone would like beer. But it's true what you say. There's a saying for this in Finnish at least, but a translation turns out... crude.

Slightly more on topic... Watching it again now, I'm really starting to reach the conclusion that Voyager is my favorite Trek series. I'm not sure why... it certainly has its weaknesses. But it also has my favorite Captain and ship in it (meaning Voyager itself of course - the look is by far my favorite in the Trek universe, closest challengers being the Akira and the NX-01 Enterprise - but also the Delta Flyer as a definite added bonus). It's also the premise itself, which I really like even if they didn't get even nearly the maximum potential out of it. There's definitely weak characters, but there's also the Doc, B'elanna, Janeway, Tuvok and early Kes and later on Seven (and no, not referring to her... assets...) to keep interest up. The Borg should be powered up a bit, Species 8472 should be powered down a bit, continuity tweaked, etc etc... but overall the whole just somehow ends up being more than the sum of its parts in my mind.

By comparison, DS9 had the most consisted and well-written storyline, but somehow some of the characters didn't do it for me, and I like ship-based stuff more on average. TNG had a nice amount of good episodes - especially the Borg ones; I remember being in awe of the Wolf-359 episode as a kid - but lacked a bit in persistant storylines (which would have been more possible than in Voyager since they were in the Alpha Quadrant after all) and was a bit... clinical, I never really developed an affinity for most of the characters because of that. Enterprise probably ends up third, slightly behind DS9. Perhaps tied with it. Hard to say. TOS... well, only seen about a dozen episodes, so can't compare fairly. But somehow I never was one for "aged" scifi shows. That said, I'll have to get around to watching it fully soon, perhaps after I'm done with Voyager.

On second thought... what a whopper of an off-topic that was, too :wtf: I blame it on it being 8:25AM and not having slept during the night (having watched Voyager, what else :shifty:).

It's a hard pick, and I guess that's evidence of Voyager's strength. I actually think the series is getting a lot more positive recognition over the years, and I like that!

My all time favourites:

Eye Of The Needle: a great use of time travel, and I remember watching the episode and how well I thought the crew's desire to get home was portrayed.
Living Witness: That final minute (where the Kyrian woman exlains how the Doctor proved to a 'pivotal moment in history') still brings a tear to my eye.
Author, Author: 7 seasons of the Doctors self eploration cummilate in this 'Measure Of A Man'-type episode. Trek at its very finest, and no other sci-fi show could ever come close to something like this.

Equinox: Do I need to explain why?

NEED to? No. But I have to admit that I'm curious since that Janeway gets off free in every sense of the word for her psychotic actions ruins it for me, personally.

I think Janeway was promoted to Admiral to get her out of the Captain's Chair. I think splitting Tuvix was outright murder. Some people just don't see it that way, I have debated it thoroughly, many times over the years, and some people just think Tuvix was being selfish and his desire to live was akin to murder. So I can see Janeway not reflecting on Tuvix and going ballistic about Equinox's deeds.

I'm also pro-capitol punishment, so Janeway's actions in Equinox seem like poetic justice to me. She got a little obsessive with it, but that is why I love Janeway. She isn't the perfect Captain, and frankly, she is one sandwich short of a picnic. For me, Janeway's psychotic actions are the icing on the cake. And it's a damn good cake.

My favorite Voyager episode is "Endgame." It has all of the ingredients of the other big Voyager episodes and kicks them up a notch. The journey comes to a conclusion, and the original Borg Queen is back in action. Like a lot of the time travel stories, there are some logic problems, but on an emotional level, it all works perfectly.

Newest additions to my already overly long list, from start of season 5 to halfway of season 6... :P

Latent Image. Doc gets a bit more growth again.

Course: Oblivion. It's a sad episode. But good.

Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy. Dirty, dirty doc ;)

One Small Step. Unexpected discoveries are win.

Pathfinder. Barclay's awkwardness can also be awesomeness.

Blink of an Eye. A very strong episode overall.

Just so hard to pick one above the others. But the latest addition is definitely among the "best of the best".

My all time favorite episode of Voyager was Before and After.

I just loved the integrating of one of my favorite movies, Momento, and my favorite character on the show, Kes. It was a nice twist on the whole time travel concept and it really let Lien show off Kes, kind of like in Warlord only this time playing Kes herself. Also, it was the introduction of her best look (And probably the best look for any character on the show) with the longer hair and it was just an awesome episode. Pity only 5 or so episodes later, she left.

Other favorites: by Season:

Season 1: Eye of the Needle and Caretaker
Season 2: Meld and Death Wish
Season 3: Already mentioned and Scorpion
Season 4: Living Witness and Prey
Season 5: Timeless and Someone to Watch Over Me and 11:59
Season 6: Memorial and Blink of an Eye
Season 7: Shattered and Lineage

Pathfinder, Latent Image and Someone to Watch Over Me are my favorite episodes. Pathfinder because it had Reg Barclay, Latent Image because it was a great doctor episode and Someone To Watch Over Me because of the humor. Message in a Bottle is also one of my favorites because of the interaction between the two EMHs.

It is really hard to pick just one favourite episode, but I think for me it would probably have to be an early season episode, probably because I have seen the later seasons so many times. I love the episosode 'Displaced' in season 3- This is with the Nyrians and how they keep appearing on Voyager and everytime one arrives Voyager loses a crew member. I think that the plot of the episode is fantastic and the acting is great... I like th e Doctors smart remarks to Tom and B'Elanna as they are bickering, but yet the seriousness of Voyager predicament. In the later seasons I loved the episode 'Dark Frontier' from season 5. This is a great Borg episode, and it was thoroughly enjoyable. If I might add, I think that Voyager opened strong with Caretaker and closed just as strong with Endgame, where as TNG opened and closed weakly I think. Anyhow just my personal opinion. Thanks xx

Just a few...no ranking or anything...and I'm leaving several off that I could have switched in pretty easily.

Deathwish
- so, I'm a Q fan....and this is easily the best non-TNG Q episode: far better than its two VOY successors or the lone DS9 appearance.
The other Q in this episode isn't an over-characterized Q. They didn't overdo it with him and he delivered a solid performance opposite JDL....who once again delivered a good performance when he wasn't written to be a clown.
Janeway and Q seemed like a natural connection...not forced and not uncomfortable that it wasn't TNG. And the Continuum represented as a gas station was a creative idea (before they jumped off the cliff with the Civil War illusion).
Not meaningful to the larger story...and not really focused on the development of a character (but then again, hey, this is Voyager) but still one of my favorite VOY episodes.

Scorpion - probably the best episode of VOY...for reasons already noted by others in this thread. While everyone's view is different, for me this is a great installment not just for VOY but for Trek. Species 8472 was an innovative and terrifying addition....especially in Part I. But I'll even throw in Part II because, while not as good as the first, it completes the story and that's important to me.

Message in a Bottle
-
a seminal episode for the series considered the high stakes of getting back in touch with SF and their families..and they managed to accomplish it in a creative way while mixing drama and humor. Amazingly, Andy Dick EMH didn't bother me as much as he does in almost everything else. His character worked here opposite the Dr. (who was excellent) -- and the two clicked with each other on-screen and with the script. It was great to see the Rommies again, the Prometheus was sweet, and the introduction of the Hirogen opened up mystery and new story opportunities for the DQ. There are some holes, but its fun and meaningful to the story....it works for me.

Prey
-
"Scorpion" gets much more love....and being a two-parter helps in that regard. But if that's not my favorite VOY episode, it might be this one. It's a tight and believable script that's well executed and its a dramatic story -- which is basically the crew dealing with a captured but powerful hunter villain (a Predator) while being stalked by a wounded but incredibly powerful, evil and intelligent killing machine villain (an Alien). AVP onboard Voyager!...but better than AVP. There's not much humor and the crew are all in serious-mode...and none delivers a bad performance. It could probably be well argued that this sort of episode isn't really what Voyager was all about...but I thought this is what VOY needed more of...just my .02.

Voyager had some really good moments IMO....I need to go back and watch these again.

If I might add, I think that Voyager opened strong with Caretaker and closed just as strong with Endgame, where as TNG opened and closed weakly I think. Anyhow just my personal opinion. Thanks xx

Really? You thought that The Episode that must Never be Named was a strong finish for Voyager and that All Good Things was a weak finale?

The Episode that must Never be Named is the only Voyager episode I have only seen once. I watched it live, had a tape in the VCR to record it. Once it was over I rewound the tape so I could use it to catch the 4 AM reruns of DS9.

All Good Things had realistic characterizations, at least. Unlike TETMNBN, Picard married and divorced the woman he had had his eye on for so long. It would have been weak if out of the blue Picard had been married to Troi or Ensign Ro, ala TETMNBN.

In All Good Things the Future Picard was doing the right thing even though everyone thought he was crazy. In TETMNBN the Future Janeway was just doing crazy things.

All Good Things was a nice finale. TETMNBN oozed "Lets just get this crap over with, I'm sick of writing it. And, while we are at it, lets throw in a bunch of random stuff that pisses off all the wankers in the internet chatrooms that have been dogging us for years. All that J/C fanfic? Haha, ruined! Now canon says different. Great, now lets go have a Budweiser and finish plotting out how we are going to ruin Star Trek's past like we did it's future. They have the tech to let a single science vessel trash the Borg, so good luck finding a realistic threat to the Federation future writers. Hahaha! Screw this place, hit the lights and lets go."

Tuvix
One of the best and well written provocative of the series.
A real meat and potatoes for all the actors to get into.
Everyone excelled in it.

timeless gives me the goosebumps every time i watch it, especially the dialogue between janeway and kim at the end. other episodes i never tire to watch are death wish, scientific method, body and soul, scientific method of course, and almost any episode featuring the doc prominently in the late seasons.

Deathwish

Really? I'm a (huge) Q fan myself and I honestly thought they managed to ruin this episode so much. It was the only one that had everything to be the best episode Q episode, yet turned out to be that, IMO.

Gonna have to say Year of Hell part II, I just love how strong the scene between Tuvok and Janeway is.

Yes. YES! So f***ing true.

My fave VOY episode has to be Year of Hell. One of the only episodes where I actually can stand Seven, very action-y, and it's oozing with JetC. Not to mention the last bits - with Tuvok and Janeway. Beautiful.

Other of my fave eps. include: Caretaker, Latent Image, Living Witness, Shattered, Basics, Equinox, Coda, and Resolutions.

It's really impossible for me to name just one episode as my favorite.

One of my favs has to be Tuvix. I like the conflict Janeway has to face: Will she allow Mr Tuvix to live and lose two valued crewmembers or will she "murder" him to get Tuvok and Neelix back? I think this is portrayed very well.

As mentioned above, other favs are Latent Image - another conflict, within the Doc's program; Shattered is great! I just love the whole episode, although, for me as a J/Cer, there should have been a slightly different ending ;)...; Equinox has to be on the list. Speaking of conflicts! We see a captain who chose to abandon the almighty protocol and one who sticks with it with all she's got.

Coda and Resolutions...Where to begin?! I don't know how many times I've seen these episodes. Great episodes!

What a tough question! I'd have to say, if pressed, SCORPION, PT 1. It's in every way a perfect episode...

"What if I made an appeal...to the Devil?"

I really will never understand the animosity towards Endgame (I named it!) For lovers of VOY, it's absolutely chock-full of wonderful stuff, with the exception of C/7.

Anyway, I too am so pleased to see VOY getting more of the recognition it deserves!
