Heroes: "Brave New World" - 2/8/10 - Season (Series?) Finale

An average finale, reduced to Below Average for Good Guy Sylar (horribly executed and totally unconvincing), but raised back up to Average for the wonderful performance by K Callan as older Charlie.

Above Average. A surprisingly good finale.
Claire's not smart but I'm glad they had her go through with what she did at the end. Knepper was terrific this entire season although he became a completely one-dimensional villain by the end. The Charlie resolution (and casting) was very effective...although I admit I always liked the Hiro/Charlie casting and wish they could have ended up together. Although it's a good thing for Charlie she doesn't have to spend a lifetime with a selfish moron like Hiro.

Claire, do you really need it spelled out for you...? People with immortality cannot come out to the rest of the world. It's just too damn risky. What's the worst that can happen to other people with special powers? They could live the rest of their lives in a dark cell. How long would that be...? 80 years on the outside...? You have no expiration date. Do you want to spend all of eternity in a locked chamber because of something you did in your teens? 
Yeah, that's the other possibility... Tell the world, and a) you end up locked up for eternity or, if you're lucky, b) you get the opportunity to turn into a cold-blooded killer who doesn't even get to choose her targets (putting her further at risk of being "taken out" by being locked up in another cell or buried until a pile of rocks)...
It's a stupid move. I kept waiting for HRG to explain to Claire why it was so important for her to stay hidden, but he never did...
Another finale, another action-less anti-climactic abrupt ending to the big villain. Yeah Samuel should have had SOME power even after they left. The ending with Charlie was nice. Can't believe they didn't tie Samuel/Emma into the planet cracking vision from S3. Sigh. Making Sylar into a good guy is really the only thing you could left with the character after all the garbage storylines they've given him. At least now there's an excuse not to just kill him! And giving him five years of jail time is a good excuse for it. They really should have killed Noah there, perfect opportunity, great death scene. So Ali Larter was in what like three episodes this entire season?
I am so FUCKING sick of Claire! She is THE dumbest character on that show, and that's actually saying something, what with all the competition for the title.
She does believe/trust Noah. No, she doesn't. Yes, she does. Wait! No, she doesn't. Just a sec! Yes, she does...but she's going to totally ignore his advice cause, he's NEVER right, is he?

For a change, we can't say they didn't foreshadow it, either. Claire has been chafing at all the hypocrisy and lies for the entire season. One good reason to root for S5 is to see her faced with the horrible consequences of her rash decision.
Good Guy Sylar is unconvincing because he's lost his defining characteristic as a character - he's a nerd who wants to be special and is haunted by his own fear of irrelevance, which is totally different from his new fear, of "being alone," which just came outta the blue like the writers forgot who Sylar was (like they ever knew...)
The right way to make him a Good Guy is for his goodness to be eternally battling with his inescapable fear of irrelevance, which leads to a quest for power, which leads to him doing bad things. Even if his powers are what makes him crazy-bad, that isn't where his fear of irrelevance comes from - that should be part of his core personality, powers or no powers.
Immortality is the least of it. Matt Parkman will be hunted down with pitchforks and torches. Would you really feel comfortable knowing there's some guy out there who could take over your mind or cast you into an eternal hell trapped within your own psyche? Matt definitely needs to go into hiding now.
What can they do to Matt, though? Kill him...? Lock him in a basement for 80 years...? An immortal has to deal with the possibility of being locked up for eternity. Anybody with any sanity would keep their mouths shut (not go on tv and declare themselves immortal).
Thousands will be interesting in doing at least some testing to determine whether her immortality could be transferred. It will take them all of five minutes to find out about Claire's magic healing blood, and that's when she gets stuck in a basement with a tube through her arm for all eternity.

Matt at least has some defenses... It would take very little to incapacitate Claire. You don't have to worry about an accidental death, so you just start firing your weapons until you have a chance to lock-on some restraints.

Her definition of normal is for people to know the truth about her and accept her as she is. Fine for her - she can't hurt anyone with her power so people won't try to lock her up/kill her in self-defense. But anyone with telekinesis or mind control, look out! Even time-stopping and time travel will freak people out - not directly threatening, but they sure could be.

The sad thing is how proud the writers were of that scene. To the point that they were trying to mimic the look and feel of Tony Stark's coming out at the end of Iron Man.
I honestly don't believe they think anything out in this show anymore. They run entirely on the fumes of the show's concept, which people want to love. It's pathetic.

I bet she never said a word to the press about her healing blood. She still gets to have secrets.
While I don't wish anyone out of a job, after viewing this season, I hope this is the end for Heroes. As people have stated earlier, Claire's leap was a good bookend for the show. Bringing the show back for more would probably just result in persecution stories, which will get old quickly.
As for Good!Sylar, please someone put him out of his misery. What's wrong with being crazy-evil for the sole purpose of enjoying being crazy-evil? Didn't he tell Lydia (during all the biting) that he enjoyed it? Now all of a sudden "he's not that person anymore"? Come on! Sylar was much more fun when he was taking brains, amassing power and everyone was afraid of him. Man, I miss that drugged chai. *grumbles*

Ugh! Thank for reminding me that they never resolved the Sylar-Mohinder relationship in any way, shape or form. Even if there's an S5, and Mo comes back, what's the point? Now I'm disgruntled all over again.
