Mass Effect 2

That is brilliant.

Although, did anyone notice more than a slight similarity between Legion/Shepards first talk on Normandy and Geordi/Hugh from Next Gen?

I'm sure it's not accidental. Mass Effect borrows from just about every scifi great in the last 30 years, Trek, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, and on and on and on.

What's amazing is they make something so unique and compelling out of it.

Holy shit! I finally got my HD-TV and 360 properly connected and I'm playing this game in HD for the first time! Sweet. So I've now done the two loyalty missions for the two characters I like to play. I'm wondering if I should bother doing the loyalty missions for all the other characters... I probably will just to get all my money's worth and get to level up more.

Just completed it. Wow. My heart is still pumping from the closing cutscenes. I was literally screaming at the TV to make it.

For those who are interested, I ended with going against The Illusive Man and destroying the Human Reaper and the only casualty was Doc Mordin (I didnt like him all that much anyway).
It's interesting that most people tend to pick that same option.

It felt good to tell Illusive Man off. Assassinating Admiral Kahoku in ME1 might have been business as usual for Cerberus but there's no way in hell my Shepard was going to forgive and forget. Illusive Man might pretend that was "someone else" but he designed Cerberus so he could do exactly that.

Not doing loyalty missions can have dire consequences.

OK this is why I hate not having walkthroughs. I've wandered all around the Citadel; where do I find Thane's loyalty mission? Also where do I find the person who needs the stolen ID?

The mass effect wikia has info on all the quests. For Thanks loyalty mission I think you just talk to the c-sec chief to get it started. The stolen ID I think will get triggered after you do Thanes quest I think, two blue chicks sitting on a couch talking about discrimination or something.

You need to have Thane and Garrus with you to activate their missions with the C-Sec chief.

That was such an innocuous little mission. I'm beginning to wonder if it'll have ramifications in ME3

I'm actually tempted to do a play-through without doing a single loyalty mission or upgrade and see just how messy things can possibly unfold.

I'm currently doing a vanilla John Shepard male renegade playthrough and it's amusing to notice all of the little differences. For instance I didn't do the "bring down the sky" DLC mission for John's ME1 run through (it was a speed run) so you get a little news clip of a memorial rather than an invite to a celebration.

My "main" character on the other hand is a (mostly) paragon female soldier. She usually does the right thing, but has a mean and ruthless streak towards mercs and idiots, so when the opportunity to suddenly shoot someone in the foot or push them out a window, it's usually too much to resist. ;)
Oh and she finished with all surviving (with a little trial and error) the base blew up, and Illusive Man got told to bugger off. On the up side, the Rachni Queen sent me a greeting card, Wrex in uniting the Kurgan, Mordin has the genophage cure if need be and I reprogrammed the Heratic Geth. So plenty of cannon fodder for ME3.

So, yeah. That was rather awesome. I actually finished last night, but wasn't really sure what to say about it.

I really enjoyed the whole sequence of jumping through the Omega-4 relay and into a massive debris field, the battle leading up to the Collector Base, and the whole part with the separate teams assaulting the station. I sent Tali through the ventilation shaft and had Garrus lead the second fire team, then had Samara escort the surviving Normandy crew, and got out of there with no casualties.

I did get a little :wtf: at the Human-Reaper. Did BioWare really think that was a good idea? If the Collectors had been constructing a normal Sovereign-type Reaper it would have been fine, since I figured the Reapers were harvesting organics as fuel/energy anyway, and maybe after what Shepard did they decided humanity was the best of the current sapient species. But having the Reapers take the form of an organic species they conquer as a form of reproduction? A little too silly for me.

It felt good telling the Illusive Man off. Now I'm wondering if Shepard and the Normandy will be flying solo in ME3, or if he can go back to the Council.

I did think the main storyline was a little weak. I definitely preferred ME1 in that sense. But Mass Effect is like Star Wars; ME1, like ANH, can work on its own as a standalone story, whereas TESB needed ROTJ to feel complete. I suspect ME3 will do the same for ME2. The character depth was a lot better in ME2, though; the loyalty missions were a great idea.

Oh crap I completely forgot, I pre-ordered the game on Amazon for the free Terminus Armor. My GF got an email about going to a website for it but I haven't seen the email. So my question is, do I need to be on X-Box Live to get this? 'Cause I'm on dial-up and I'm not. Or is it just a code I put into the 360 or something.

Xbox Live accounts are available to everyone, whether it be Silver (free) or Gold (paid). That said, you do have to download the extra content onto your Xbox, so you would need both an internet connection and a hard drive to do it. You could do it on dial-up, but yeah, it probably wouldn't be worth the wait.

Yeah, the files are still big enough that you'd wait for hours to get the stuff. Zaeed is a couple hundred megs.

It's silly that they basically didn't even bother writing out a conversation tree for him. You don't even need to talk to him to get his loyalty mission.

I have to wonder, what exactly was the point of having a bunch of DLC come out on the day of release? It's like buying a car then having to go back and pick up the doors and floor mats separately. Why not just bundle all the non-promotional content in with the initial install?
