Would you like to see a Star Trek show about the Maquis?

I think that a Star Trek show about those freedom fighters would be an interesting idea.

For example there could be some old Firefly-style ship, named "The Che Guevara" or "The Charles De Gaulle". The crew could consist of outlaws, thugs or disgraced Starfleet officer from different races. Together they will fight the Cardassians and try not get caught by the Federation.

Would you like to see a show like that?

No. By the end of DS9 I was tired of cardasians and that area of space. Also, the cardiasians are broken at the end of DS9. Their efforts would be to rebuild their homeworld and long term settlements. I might like that concept done on the Romulan border.

VOY was supposed to be the show about the Maquis, but we know how that turned out...

I wouldn't turn away from such a concept if it came to fruition, but I'm not gunning (get it? GET IT?!) for it either.

I liked the characters of Chakotay and B'Elana Torres, but in "Voyager" their main concern was going home.

I'd like to see some hardcore "Brave Heart"/"Star Wars" style fighting for freedom shown from the Maquis point of view (dirty overcrowded ships, suffering refugees, lack of a home to go back to and so on). I think a show like that may have some potential.

No. As far as I'm concerned we've been there and done that. We've had sympathetic Maquis, unsympathetic Maquis, interesting Maquis and boring Maquis. We know how the story starts and how it ends. I admit I have a little curiosity about what happened to Lt Ro, but that hardly merits a whole series. Much better to do something new and fresh.

No. It has been "13 years" since they were killed off. The next show should set after Voyager. It should be left to the novelizations.

The only good Maquis is a dead Maquis. I have no interest in a watching the exploits of the trash of the galaxy.

Where did their love of terrorism and dirt farming get them?

We saw that already on nuBSG, BTDT did not get a t-shirt. I would much rather see new adventures not set in 24th century Trek.

I would so watch a Star Trek show about a ship called the Che Guevara. Would be a blast!

They're all dead. Except for Chakotay, B'Elanna, and the other Maquis on Voyager, and Eddington's gang, all the Maquis were wiped out by the Jem'Hadar. So any series would have to be a prequel. That said, the idea has some potential. It would be a BSG esque series.

OK, we can change the name to the "William Wallace" then. :)
Wait, you seem to think I was joking, but I actually meant it! Even if you disagree with his politics, El Che was a larger-than-life character: you may call him brutal fighter, bloodthirsty killer, would-be dictator, whatever. But the man had vision. No less than any other revolutionary in history, from Moses to George Washington. Also, given how many discussion I had about the monetary economy of the Federation, having a ship named from Che Guevara in Star Trek would be my ultimate vindication. ;)

I would encourage somebody like Mack or DeCandido to start a 3-4 novel series about a ragtag Maquis crew with a Captain "Thomas Riker" calling the shots... unfortunately there wouldn't be anywhere to go. Cardassia lies in ruins and the Dominion Alliance obliterated the Maquis. One good thing in the Voyager novel "Homecoming" is the recognition by the Maquis side of the crew that many of their friends and family members were already killed (a fact largely ignored in the show itself by writers who cared very little about show to show continuity).

I agree!:techman: He was an idealist and back then communism seemed to him like a much better choice than living in a dictatorship!

The point of having the Maquis on Voyager was to lighten the tone. Having half the crew facing jail on return keeps their spirits up for a long trip.

The Maquis as some sort of Abraham Lincoln Brigade rewritten to have right wing politics is really, really stupid.
The Maquis as some sort of Irgun/Lehi/Stern rewritten as leftwing heroes is not only stupid, but hateful.

The Maquis as Falkland Islands sheep rewritten as people is merely ridiculous.

I guess that would be a no.
