Houston becomes the largest city to elect openly gay mayor?

Who cares what the bible says. If I start quoting Mein Kampf people are going to feel offended too. The fact someone sometime ago wrote something down doesn't make it ok.

People with a set moral standard care.

That's funny - we seem to have seen a lot of people with a supposed set moral standard turn out to have anything but.

From 17y.o congressional page boys, cops in bathroom stalls to Argentianian mistresses they really show their moral standard.

And the real kicker is when their behavior is excused by their like minded breatheren.

It's pretty easy in some cases to make a case that hypocrisy is the Christian way.

Btw shall we talk about divorce? After all Jesus had nothing to say about gays but he sure as shit had a lot to say about divorce. Now given that the divorce rate amongt fundementalist Christians is just as high for the rest of the community where does that leave things?

I just think it's an amusing double standard. If I had posted in one of the Obama-election threads in Misc that I don't vote for black people on principle because member of inferior races have no business representing the people (which just to be clear is 180° different of my actual opinion), I'd like to see what the reaction would've been. But calling homosexuals diseased and an "abomination" is perfectly ok. Alright...

Yeah, makes one feel real warm inside.

^^
You forget that Teh Ghey is the most terrible sin of all.

Shows how much attention they pay to the bible given Jesus didn't say anything about it and it wasn't in the 10 Commandments.

Rape isn't in the bible either and we all know that is wrong..everyone don't have to write about something to show it is wrong. God the Father said it all. Jesus the Son doesn't have to echo the same thoughts..plus Paul wrote about it and he had contact with Jesus personally so he knew what to write about it....

Actually, there is quite a lot of rape in the OT, and it's not exactly condemned... :p

Ah hem...

Deuteronomy 20:10-14
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

That we know rape is wrong does have to come from the bible. Many civilisations had laws about what was right and wrong long before they'd heard of the bible and they still influence us today.

In fact the first know codification of laws existed over 500 years before the first appearance of what we know as the Old Testament.

God rapes women himself. Isaiah 3:14-24:

The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor [is] in your houses. What mean ye [that] ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor ? saith the Lord GOD of hosts. Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet: Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of [their] tinkling ornaments [about their feet], and [their] cauls, and [their] round tires like the moon, The chains, and the bracelets, and the mufflers, The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the earrings, The rings, and nose jewels, The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping pins, The glasses, and the fine linen, and the hoods, and the vails. And it shall come to pass, [that] instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness; and instead of a stomacher a girding of sackcloth; [and] burning instead of beauty.

As for the actual topic at hand: good for Houston to join the rest of us in the 21st century :techman:

I guess that the mayors of both Berlin (Klaus Wowereit, Social Democrat - SPD) and Hamburg (Ole von Beust, Christian Democrat - CDU) would agree with me. ;)

The people of Paris who elected and re-elected a gay mayor (Bertrand Delanoë - socialist...horror, nearly, communist  ) also welcome Houston in the 21st century :techman:

Allo Houston ? Nous vous entendons parfaitement !
Just to throw in, the current Governor of Apulia, Nichi Vendola, is a hard-core communist and a gay activist. Turns out he is also one of the most appreciated and supported. In the last administration we also had a bisexual Minister for Environment, Alfonso Pecoraro Scanio. :techman:

Heh, it just shows that America is very slow to reach the 21st century.

We're never going into TNZ territory here, so don't even think about it. And voicing an opinion, especially in response to questions, is not Trolling. So let's keep the discussion on track, please.

But when that opinion consists of calling homosexuality a choice when, in fact, it is a natural trait people are born with, then that opinion must be called for what it is: uninformed, unsupported by reality and, quite frankly, stupid.
You were doing okay up until "stupid." In Misc, you must keep the discussion civil.

"Set" on evil, huh?
How the hell many times do you have to be told to behave? Take it to TNZ if that's the way you want to carry on. The next time you Post something like that in here, you will get a Warning.

in fact, it is a natural trait people are born with,

 Isn't that a convenient assumption.

At least it falls in line with the liberal agenda and you wont get warned for it. But it wont help anyone in the end and will keep people dying. But I guess that's okay to some for political gain.

As for the subject of the thread I still wish this mayor well and hope that some wont force a particular agenda on her so she can do a good job as she was elected to do.

Many of my friends in Europe and Asia, especially the younger ones, don't veiw America as the land of the free and home of the brave....well, not anymore.

Ah, very nice. Calling an opinion stupid is an offence here but calling homosexuality a reason for death isn't.

Great! Just great!

^Seriously. I was going to point out to RJ that you called TLS's and companies' opinions stupid, not any poster themselves.

Maybe if somebody creates a religion where flaming is a holy tenant...?

Maybe you should've called his opinion an abomination.

The reverse is also true...
You and TLS saying it's a conscience choice or mental disease is also a convenient assumption...
Although it appears there is some scientific data that suggests heavily it has indeed a/mutiple predominantly biological cause(s)...
